I'd fold this preflop in a 9max game. If you had the suited ace I don't mind a limp but UTG without it its a fold for me. I'd never raise it from that position.

As played you want to get it in on the flop of course.

I don't understand the fold preflop in 9 handed.

I assume it is because it gets difficult to know if villain has set post flop and low potodds vs money odds on hitting the set on flop?

first of all its because of our position (UTG), opening it in later position is okay.
the problem is that this hand plays almost exclusively for setvalue since the ace adds zero value to the hand, and sets are less strong then in NL TH. The playability is pretty low due to that and since we are in such an early position we will be OOP postflop most of the time and without good playability you're likely to make mistakes then. Mistakes are -ev
