Seeking New Laptop

Things I would look for:

Lots of memory -- as much as you can afford
High contrast-ratio monitor, with super-fast refresh time
Fast CPU -- quad core if it is available in your price range.
Fast disk drive.

If possible:
SSD drive (for HM2/PT4 database)

I don't know UK prices, so I have no idea what is achievable.

Hopefully some other members can be more specific.

I'm not sure you'll get quadcore for <500...

Something like this looks decent. Or Asus have some alright laptops for ~300.

If at all possible, I would definitely try to find a laptop with a quad core CPU. It just helps a lot. Dual core honestly isn't that great anymore these days (even though it's probably not that terrible).

But if you're looking for a relatively cheap laptop, as mentioned, that might be hard to find...

Still, it's most definitely worth investigating. Did a quick search which resulted in this:

That one you posted, would that be able to run the latest games pretty smoothly? Not bothered about having the settings super high just as long as it runs them with no trouble.

I'm not sure. It is quad core, but only 1.9 GHz, which isn't amazing. My own laptop runs the latest games very smoothly, but also cost 4 times as much as that one

It will mostly depend on the graphics card as well though. And I'm honestly not sure if that one is good enough. You could do some research, or ask around on some computer forum if a laptop like this one will be able to run games smoothly.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't think you can really go wrong with that one. Very good price and some pretty good specification. I'd say it would be a pretty good laptop and I think it should run most games pretty well
