Hi to all at Pokerstrategy.com,
This is my GO TO for good advice, so give me yours and we'll bounce it around.
So this is a PURELY FIXED LIMIT 6MAX CASH GAME QUESTION POST.

Q1) What buy-in do you make for a 6 Max cash ring game.?

My buy-in used has been 40 Big Blinds.
At 5c/10c FL (small blind=2c, big blind=5c, Buy-in=$2)
At 10c/20c FL (small blind=5c, big blind=10c, Buy-in=$4)

This has been my buy-in so far moving up limits.
So this then leads to my second Question regarding Bankroll Management

Q2) How many Buy-ins do you have in your Bankroll before you step up?

When playing 5c/10c FL buy-in $2 I moved up to 10c/20c FL buy-in $4 when BR was at $100 which = 25 buy-ins x $4 = $100.
So a 25 buy-in BR has been my safety net.
Is 25 buy-ins being too conservative?
I am considering adjusting to a 20 buy-in BR safety net.
I know mentally I am ready for 25/50 FL
(small blind=10c, big blind=25c Buy-in=$10.)
My BR stands at $170= 17 x $10 buy=ins.
Would you move up at 20 buy-ins .
Thanks for reading this long post.
I appreciate any feed back at all.
Peace
Simon

hi,

in FL you should have at all time enough BBs to cap in all streets, thats 12BB, so you don't have to rebuy having 24 BB its ok.

for bankroll 600bb as a minimum for the level you are playing, and to take a shot at a higher level 100BB of that level should be enogh.

300BB a bit risky but if your confident why not

500BB much safer and what i consider standard for the player who is a bit conservative
(note i have only done this half correctly forget about the highest stakes for now )
hope it formats this correctly

oh and forget the 25BI rule. all that is for NL not FL .. here you calculate in BB = Big Bets not bb = bigblinds

500 Big Bets Rules

$0,02 $0,04 = $20,00
$0,05 $0,10 = $50,00
$0,10 $0,20 = $100,00
$0,25 $0,50 = $250,00
$0,50 $1,00 = $500,00
$1,00 $2,00 = $1000,00
$2,00 $4,00 = $2.000,00
$3,00 $6,00 = $6.000,00
$5,00 $10,00 = $10.000,00
$10,00 $20,00 = $20.000,00
$15,00 $30,00 = $30.000,00
$30,00 $60,00 = $60.000,00
$50,00 $100,00 = $100.000,00
$100,00 $200,00 = $200.000,00
$200,00 $400,00 = $500.000,00
$500,00 $1.000,00 = $1500.000,00
when reaching this. Life is complete !

300BB

$0,02 $0,04 = $12,00
$0,05 $0,10 = $30,00
$0,10 $0,20 = $60,00
$0,25 $0,50 = $150,00
$0,50 $1,00 = $300,00
$1,00 $2,00 = $600,00
$2,00 $4,00 = $1.200,00
$3,00 $6,00 = $1.800,00
$5,00 $10,00 = $10.000,00
$10,00 $20,00 = $20.000,00
$15,00 $30,00 = $30.000,00
$30,00 $60,00 = $60.000,00
$50,00 $100,00 = $100.000,00
$100,00 $200,00 = $200.000,00
$200,00 $400,00 = $500.000,00
$500,00 $1.000,00 = $1500.000,00

Here is a BR aggro rules from our very own Boomer which i intend to follow

Rules of Aggro BR Management

Start

$500

If hit $250 -> 0.25/0.50 (This is the lowest stake allowed)

$700

Move up to 1/2

If hit $500 -> 0.5/1 and try to hit $700 again for another shot

$1400

Move up to 2/4

If hit $1000 -> 1/2 and try to hit $1400 for another shot

$2600

Move up to 3/6

If hit $2000 -> 2/4 and try to hit $2600 for another shot

$5000

Move up to 5/T

If Hit $4000 -> 3/6 and try to hit $5000 for another shot

Thanks akasoul and Avataren,
I am looking at the 300BB (Big Bet) BRM.
I can see how it is more riskier and can anticipate how a few negative sessions could harm my BR and an effect a players mindset.
So my current BR is OK for 300BB.
Might start next month at the new limit (.25/.50).
Play only 2 tables instead of my usual 4.
Then again may play it up to 500BB,
just see how this months graph looks first.
Cheers
Simon

Ooh, this one seems fun, gonna try this one aswell, trying to rebuild my roll as fast as possible! But i started at $300, but Im at $500 now. So 200 more to go and Ill be at 1/2 :f_cool:

When I started playing poker I went with a 200BB bankroll :f_grin: but I was never shy of moving up and down the stakes however. And Ive seen some crazy ideas as to how much you need depending on how good you do at certain stages. I have an exel sheet of the kelly criterion, and according to that one i need $56to start playing 0.25/0.50 :f_confused:, but thats with a winrate of 2BB/100 and 18SD/100, so it differs. But that one involves moving up and down alot... unless you run very lucky all the time, but if you do, then you really dont need a brm ;)

To be honest unless you are living exclusively off poker and thus moving down is a borderline disaster, as long as your are comfortable either moving up/down limits or potentially having larger swings in relation to your bankroll at micro/small stakes there is very little reason to stick to mega-conservative BR management unless, of course, you're not a winning player in which case no bankroll is big enough (DUCY?)

If you are on a rebuilding plan and have taken on the stakes before I see no reason really not to use more aggro management than a stricktly RoR calculation would suggest becasue on RoR calculation assumes you never move stakes.

Kelly Criterion is especailly bad for this becasue it wasn't desinged with poker in mind, it was designed as "What is the optimal size of bet I should make based on my bankroll" so again, RoR calucations are useless because the Kelly answer changes constantly and you'd be changing stakes every 5 minutes if you played according to it.

However, what a bankroll is, in a nutshell, is a defense mechanism vs tilt. Sure you can play 0.5/1 with a $200 bankroll if you're comfortable losing 50% of your bankroll in 1 session. This may very well be the case if you can reload easily etc, but if that $200 is all you have/all you can reload then you'd be a bit foolish playing a game where you can lose 50% of your bankroll in 1 session becasue it's more than likely the remaining 50% will follow.

You'll notice that even in my calculations I recommend a higher bankroll as you approach 2/4+, and that's becaseu winrates at those stakes will drop and variance will increase due to the increased aggression of the games so therefore you might be better off waiting a bit.
