I'll be giving blogging another shot.
The purpose of this blog twofold. Half a whine/venting thread and half a poker training diary.
The Whining
Because I hate hearing all this hippy bullshit touted by these evangelistic 'mind coaches'. Such as:
'always be postivive'
'get the zen mindset'
'Don't let coolers, suckouts and bad beats effect you'
'Be positive though long breakeven and losing periods'
Well fuck that.
Poker like life is full of bad beats and coolers. Shit happens. Regularly. It's a regular occurrence like the tides of the ocean or day followed by night.
Like that fucking mosquito that will not leave you alone when you lie down to sleep at night. Under the cover of darkness, it will buzz six inches from your face and you will flail your arms to no avail. You will hide under the pillow, but you will still hear it. Stalking, buzzing. Waiting patiently for that moment to suck your blood.
You will get up, turn the lights on in a bid to obliterate it. But it will have vanished like it never existed. Until, like those tides, when you turn the light back on and get into bed. It will be back. Tired and frustrated you will yell to the bastard,
'JUST FUCKING BITE ME YOU FUCK, I don't even care anymore. JUST LET ME SLEEP!'
And he will bite you. But not instantly. He will buzz around for another 15 minutes. The blood of a traumatized victim must taste better. 20 minutes later you are asleep and he bites you. You spend the rest of the night half sleeping, half itching your neck and foot that was sticking out of the blankets.
That is life. That is poker. It isn't winning 10 buy ins a session. It's getting bitten. Every session.
If you have to be deluded into some cult like trace state of mind to deal with this, you are a wimp. (plus it's all bullshit and not sustainable anyway).
In this blog we approach our fucking one in a million suckouts head on. We tell them them and our opponents what to do. Specifically, to eat a bag of dicks.
And you know what, venting helps. Screaming is a natural reaction to pain. Bottling the pain up and pretending it's making you stronger doesn't.
/end rant
Training Stuff
I have been sucking at nl50 treading water and going nowhere for too long now and I'm getting sick of it. I'd like to get better. My plan is twofold. Do some training and then in about a month or so not be so embarrassingly bad that I can spend money on some coaching and not feel like I am wasting everyones time. Also if I haven't lost all my bankroll by then, in a months time I should have a decent sample size of hands for a coach to be adequately disgusted at.
Krantz of Bet Raise Fold fame over in his threat, recommended this 'Systematic Training' thread at 2 plus 2. So I'm going to go over one thing dailly and post (or do the it) it here. Daily for the next month. Yes, I know. It's going to be painful...
I see all these Gordan Gekko/Raskolnikov students posting how they're crushing. And figure I can do the work too and crush higher limits too. My other idea for a title for this blog was 'CRUSHING POKER WITHOUT RASKOLNIKOV, FUCK HIM. Plus hookers & blow'. In hindsight, I think I may have went with the wrong one.
And in the vain of all great procrastinators, I'll be starting tomorrow. Or possibly after the weekend.
Apart from the whining that is starting now.
This is a regular occurrence. Hands like this. Not once a week. Not daily, Not even hourly. Every fucking 15 minutes. Pretending to be happy about it rather than audibly calling the guy a mother fucker is the wrong choice. Mother fucker.

On the topic of pain, fitness & mental coaching. I enjoyed this piece by Michelle Bridges, personal trainer of Biggest Loser fame. Getting fit brings many benefits, but having fun isn't one of them
So, all you cheesy fitness "fun" pedlars, please stop it. They're not stupid, the punters. And even if they were sucked in by your gleeful promises of childlike playfulness, they'll see right through you about 90 seconds into the workout. Sure, you'll squeeze out your fair share of endorphins, with which I note the fun spinners like to draw parallels with opium and sex, but here's the tip – that comes after the workout, not during.
To end on a happier note. This hand made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
