Finding the fish quickly

There is a part of HM2 called "Table Scanner" that might help find good tables.

I don't know much about it. I still evaluate the other players on my table to see what types of players are seated to my left and right.

I'll leave after a couple of orbits if I don't like the layout.

One quick (but incomplete) way to spot the fish could be to look at the players VPIP.
If they have a VPIP higher than 30 over a decent sample size they are already looser than usual. A VPIP of over 40 should be most likely indicative of a fish.
Also, make sure to compare it to their PFR to see whether they can be considered a maniac or a calling station.

Alternatively, just look for players with "Harrier88" or variations thereof as their username.

Here's a whole bunch of pro tips:

Usually a round or two are enough, moreover, in the majority of cases one should be able to tell a reg from a fish from a single hand. There are a lot of metagame tells, and they've been listed many times on forums.

Someone who:

waits for the big blind when joining the table -> is a reg or at least not a total drooler
posts OOP -> fish

shows trash down -> fish
has sizing leaks (min-3-5-bets or minraises over limpers pre, makes small - not min - bets post) -> fish
minbets post -> fish, or myself / masstabler whose hotkeys are buggy

trash-chats -> fish or tilted mediocre reg, if he uses advanced poker terms (like 'outs') or poker forum slang then obv a reg
chats quite a bit and politely -> (reg)fish

is found playing at >2 tables by permascan or clicking through the lobby -> reg, myself or ubermaniac

has been playing 4+ max for more than a round, with all his opps being identified as regs -> fish or masstabler

0/0 or 20/0 after 5 hands -> reg
VPIP>=80 after 10 hands, VPIP=100 after 5 hands -> fish

takes too little time to act -> reg or myself (due to using hotkeys)
takes too much time to act -> masstabling reg or bored FB-checking fish at a FR table

buys in for more than the minimum but less than the maximum -> fish

bets non-default %-ages of the pot that are apparently not typed in manually (e.g. 80% on iPoker if it's not $2 or smth round) -> usually reg (has given a **** about changing this setting or getting hotkeys)

auto tops up whenever possible -> reg (it's usually known after the first hand because he folds the BB in 80%+ of cases)
has no top-up -> fish or loosish passive reg

has an iPoker SN ending by digits and starting with 'TTR', 'WWR', 'BMR', 'alspc', etc except 'bf' -> fish (casino / sportsbook gambler)
has an iPoker SN starting with 'bf' -> Betfair fish or reg that had played on Ongame before (so it's not a tell)
has an aggressive SN -> reg
has an SN referring to poker terms (often those known only by regs) -> reg
has his / her real name or an animal as the SN, sometimes with a birth year -> usually fish

has a SN referring to himself as a bad player -> probably reg
has a SN that is some "humorous" variation of Doyle Brunson or Isildur1 -> probably fish
has a picture of his pets, family or girlfriend as an avatar -> probably fish
has a baby picture as an avatar -> FISH!!!!!!!

Right, but the reference to Isildur has to be humorous. Otherwise, someone copying the SN of a known shark (especially a not-so-known online shark) is a reg. I have an Isildur in my iPoker SnGs, and he's at least a very high volume player without apparent weaknesses, even if not a good reg. The same applies to the value clown of my iPoker PLO games.

Makes sense.
One player had a picture of a fish, but it turned out he was a cat.

So....
Armed with all this knowledge, I should do everything possible to make myself look like a fish.

Or, should I do everything in my power to NOT look like a fish.

Be careful, someone shown as a Canadian might turn out a poker refugee from the US! (Fishes don't earn enough money to emigrate, nor have the urge to do so, do they?)
