Hero bet 36 bb on turn 2/3 of pot and m.p1 called and button folded.

River a 2h .

Hero check and MP.1 raise to 50 bb which is hero all in.

What should the whole action be?

I advised u to bet on the flop 2/3psb and check the turn. As played (bet ott) no way you beat anyway concerning his range if he had shoved on the river.

Hi, silhouetteken,
Welcome to PokerStrategy.com!

With your top pair OTT you're either Way Ahead or Way Behind.
You're ahead of any Ace less than AJ (except for the A7 & A8), every other pair, and every draw.
You're way behind all two pair hands, sets and AK & AQ

You're Out Of Position. The classic way to play a WAWB hand OOP is to check/call trying for a cheap showdown.
A 2/3 pot size bet when the board pairs is really a bluff, since nothing worse will call.

I suggest that you follow the lesson plan in No Limit Hold'em lessons overview. Most of that material will be already known to you, but it will be a good refresher course, and covers situations like this.

While you're browsing PokerStrategy.com don't overlook the free money offers.

Also, I've moved this to the no limit hand discussion forum.
Read some of the other hands posted there to get some good ideas.

All the best,
VS

I totally agree that we should bet on flop and check on turn. We should not pump the pot. Especially mw.
As played you should not call on river.
