Hi Everyone,

First of all: best wishes for your new year! :f_drink:

Just a short introduction of me: I’m Gerard and live in Amsterdam.

This is my third blog and the first time in the English corner. My first two blogs were in the Dutch corner, which is deserted now. My first goal (the first blog) was to try to move up from NL2 to NL25 level at FR Zoom three/four years ago. I managed this. The second goal (the second blog) was to try to prove that online poker is not dead or dried up after all. I could earn somewhat little money at ultratight Zoom FR NL25, but playing as a robot fit and fold poker at four tables at once is very very very boring. So I was bored and quit :roto2:

The reason that I still play poker is that I like games. That you can earn money with poker is a very big bonus. That is why I am not playing chess anymore. Today is the first day of the new year. So, let's have fun and have a new challenge: build a new bankroll that makes big enough to play poker live in casino’s on a regular basis on one day.

So, I start with zero money. I have just only 1000 StarCoins and 7 PokerStars Giveaway tickets. Lets try to convert these tickets/StarCoins into money for the cash game FR NL2. I will post here my progress on a regular basis.

Day 1:

To improve my games I should also study & post my played hands, read poker books (especially the books from Ed Miller), read the hand discussions corner, read another pokerblogs and so on… For now, I’m going to reread the book “The Course: Serious Hold’em Strategy for Smart Players” by Ed Miller.

Cheers,
Gerard

Sounds like a very good challenge! Why not try 6max if you are finding FR a little boring?

Good luck!

Could be nice to follow! Count me in! Is there a special reason why you like the books of Ed Miller? Just curious! GL GL and keep us updated! :f_thumbsup:

Day 1:

Played twice with PokerStars Giveaway tickets: 1x All-in shoot out and 1x Zoom Turbo Freeroll --> total profit: $0.00
Played 7 times with $0,25 Spin & Go (total cost: 175 StarCoins) --> total profit $1.00. Enough for Zoom FR NL2.
Played short Zoom FR NL2 with only 50BB buy-in. After 60 hands: profit $0.15.

And 825 StarCoins and 5 PokerStars Giveaway tickets left.

Tomorrow another few attempts with Spin & Go and Zoom FR NL2.

My tankroll will be:

Thanks :)

Good questions! The reason I choose for full ring is that casino's don't offer 6max poker. I want to learn to play poker at full ring as well as possible. Far as I know, only Ed Miller have written books about poker for live full ring cash games.

Day 2:

Played twice with PokerStars Giveaway tickets: 1x All-in shoot out and 1x Zoom Turbo Freeroll: profit: $0.00
Played 9 times with $0,25 Spin & Go (total cost: 225 StarCoins): total profit $6.00.

See graph for two days Spin & Go:

Spoiler

Played Zoom FR NL2 for 100 hands: profit $0.49.

My new bankroll:

And 600 StarCoins and 3 PokerStars Giveaway tickets left.

Tomorrow is another day again to build up my bankroll further! :)

Day 4 and 5

The last two days were great days for my bankroll: $8.54 up!

To be honest: playing Zoom FR NL2 with very shallow bankroll made me to play too cautiously. As if I was playing poker like a slot machine at a nitfest zoom FR NL2 game. That works very bad! lol So, I decided to play more loose and agressive. This works far much better! There are too many players who are just waiting for a good hand and then go... or just fold too quickly. Too nitty. Easy to read :P

Day 10

Little played last five days... but my fishy play resulted in a lot of micro money :f_p:

My graph from Zoom FR NL2 cash game this year so far. Even a red line is in plus.

My new bankroll:

When I have $75, then I am going to play FR NL5.

Hand 1
I know it is far too loose to open with 76s here. But Zoom FR NL2 can be very nit fest. So that is why I open wider from early (or even in mid and late) position now and then. What could the mini-raiser have here?

Hand 2
Again with 76s.

Flop I made a small re-raise to keep the villain in the pot. To my experience, a lot of players in micro will make a fold here if someone make a big reraise. Though, I think now I should have reraised to 30.5 or 35.5 bb instead of 25.5 bb.

Turn: maybe I was too greedy? I thought: if the villain is already planned to fold to a scared card K, then it doesn't matter if I make a smaller bet or shove here. If I make a 1/3 or 1/2 pot bet on turn, then his remaining stacks becomes also too small at river. I guess that the villain won't have just TPTK here. Perhaps: straight/flushdraw, two-pair or set. Maybe even slowplayed AA/KK?

If I need to guess in hand 1 he has most likely AA or maybe KK here with his min raise.
Hand 2 I would 3bet to 30bb or so and then villain has less than a pot size bet left on the turn.
Hand 3 he could have a set or 2 pair I think. It would be bad if he shoves with 1 pair hands or a draw. So I would likely fold here against an unknown.
Hand 4, because they think people with AA would make a normal 4bet what I would do with AK as well.

Anyway. Your start looks promising and good luck with your new blog :gl:

Cheers,

Yes, exactly! But, it is micro! Players play very unpredictable at this level

Another strange hand:

Hand 5
The villains had nearly defeated himselves by playing his hand very slow slow slow :f_zZz:

Today played only 446 hands and won $4.10.

My new bankroll is: $35.73. I am very optimitic that I will reach NL5 the coming weekend.

For short term:
I'm still re-reading/studying the book of Ed Miller: The course - Serious Hold'Em Strategy for Smart Players. This book is focused on live NL200/NL500/NL1000 cash games. To my opinion, it is also very usual for online micro cash games!

For mid term:
I'm also reading/studying the book of Doug Hull: Poker Workbook For Math Geeks. I want to learn different kind of equities! I think this knowledge will be very useful when I am going to play at higher level.

For long term: another books that I am going to read/study are:
- Playing the Player - Ed Miller
- How to read hand at no-limit Hold'em - Ed Miller
- Poker Plays you can use - Dough Hull
- Red Chip Poker - Late position - Hull, Sweeney and Soto
- Poker's 1% - The one big secret that keeps Elite Players on top - Ed Miller
- Live No-limit cash games 1 and 2 - Jonathan Little

Day 15 to Day 17

I played nearly 9000 hands in the last weekend. Firstly I runned hot and went $6 up and then... I got really one after the other bad beats. This resulted also in my TILTY FISHY play. This way of play punished me with $16 down. So, there is still a lot of work with my poker mindset.

Hapily, I made a good recovery at the end and this resulted finally in $7,40 up for this weekend.

Day 18

Today I have played just only 550 hands and $5,30 up.

Currently bankroll:

Hopefully I will reach $75 this week for playing at NL5.

Study for the coming week:

Spoiler

Re-reading/studying the book of Ed Miller: The course - Serious Hold'Em Strategy for Smart Players.

Studying the book of Doug Hull: Poker Workbook For Math Geeks.

There is also a very nice thread: Your 20 Minute Poker Training - Fold Equity Overview. So, I'll study that every day for 20 minutes from now!

Maybe I shoud do that. I thought that at NL2 level it is not very interesting to see the played hands :)

Hand 7
His action on the river is raising all-in... It looked as if he had got a full-house. But, I decided to make a call here. I assumed: if he had a set, he would have raised at the turn. This is because there is a flush draw --> a lot of players tend to play at this way at NL2 as they don't want get drawn out by a flush.

Day 20

Played 640 hands and earned exactly one big blind: $0.02! But, all-in adj. result is $2.77.

The graph result so far for the zoom FR NL2:

I think that I should still go all-in at the turn based on SPR pre-flop.

It was a mis click just betting for 2 blinds at the river with my flush. It seems I have discovered a kind of bluf catcher trick. Good to know that for the next time. :)

He had a high fold to 3bet stats, so I decide to 3-bet here. As he called here, I was carefull to make a continubet. Maybe too carefull. But, he didn't make a bet too. So, i assume he might also have nothing here. That is why I decide to barrel on the turn and river. I think that these barrels will be profitable on long term.

Pity, he didn't barrel again on the river. Does anyone have a suggestion how I should playu this kind of board/hand most effectively on long term? I think I should make a CB again here and then check behind on the turn for a check-raise next time.

Day 22

Played 1000 hands with good result: $4.85 up!

Players can play really fishy at FR Zoom NL2 _biggrin:

Hand 13
Against a short stacked player I'm gonna never fold. Especially with very low SPR (stack to pot ratio)! I guessed he might have Ax. My check was a bluf catcher. If he has got straight, two pair or a set, then bad luck. But now: I think I should still make a TB at thurn. But then just smaller: 1/3 to 2/5 of the pot to keep the villain in the pot.

Just keep betting as long as you think you're not behind. The river was a small suck bet of me. I want earn somewhat extra money. To my experience: when you bet here again high 80/90% of the players will fold here, unless he has got a strong(er) hand. When he raise, then reevalute your hand again.

Day 24-25

Played a lot of hands, though I was a bit ill yesterday. Hindsight: that was not a good idea! Playing poker whereas I was ill resulted in a bad play of me: just only C or even D-game. Luckily I run hot at the and ended with a big profit: +$8,50 and finally reached $75 for the NL5 level.

Today I have made a small shot at Zoom FR NL5. The result was nice: $4 up with thanks to a pre-flop all-in shoover xD

Day 26 to 29

Pfff, that was a hard and interesting lesson! The game that works at NL2 does absolutely not work at NL5! So I've tried to play too long at the same manner at NL5 as at NL2. This resulted in declining of my bankroll from $75 to $32. Around the 3000th hand I finally adjusted my poker game to the players at the Zoom FR NL5... with result! See graph below. Hopefully I will be back at the bankroll of $75 this Sunday.

Zoom FR NL5:

Currently bankroll: ~$65

I was suprised when I logged in at NetBet Poker. I had still some money there: €13.79... So, from now I will also play 6max poker at NetBet on a regurlarly basis. I think that playing at 6max game will improve my poker skill.
