Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BB): 50 BB
CO: 59.5 BB
BTN: 46.5 BB
SB: 116 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A♥ J♣

fold, BTN calls 1 BB, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, BTN calls 2 BB

Flop: (6.5 BB, 2 players) Q♥ 4♦ 5♦
Hero bets 3 BB, BTN raises to 6 BB, Hero calls 3 BB

Turn: (18.5 BB, 2 players) A♠
Hero checks, BTN bets 9 BB, Hero calls 9 BB

River: (36.5 BB, 2 players) K♣
Hero checks, BTN bets 28.5 BB and is all-in, fold

Spoiler

BTN wins 34.5 BB

The preflop limping combined with the T and R bet gave me the impression that Villain had a low pocket pair that hit OTF (44, 55). Was I right to fold my top pair?
My stack size is 50 BB because on this site the max buy-in is 1 dollar on NL2.

First, why do you play with 50BB stack?
Second, with the call on flop you hope to hit what?

2. The call OTF was based probably on my overcard, and I thought I might call him down once. It is possible that i did not have the right equity.

If you rely to hit your overcard, it is 3 outs there( though you may not have the nuts).

Sorry about the stacksize question. It is a totally different game when you all are half stacked.

Yes, actually in our beginner course the rule was that cbet once OTF as a bluff if you do not hit, but fold to any subsequent aggression. But against a minraise I considered that I might call once. Maybe it wasn't the best choice though.

Yes, I know, the stack size is a big issue, most of all because the strategy I am trying to learn as a beginner is a BSS, but what can I do? From NL5 and higher it will be possible the full stack buy-in though.

I'm not familiar with short stack strategy but I think you can raise a bit bigger vs limper, 4bb or even 5bb since we are oop. I would bet flop a bit bigger too. Villains minraise OTF smells like a set but I guess it can sometimes be FD so calling his raise is ok, maybe. As played river is a fold.

Can you switch the poker site? Or they will come at your house and will take you hostage? :)

Find yourself apoker site where you can practice and experience the strategy you want to play.

Betting big with that stack is a 2 side coin. It can be committing.

In fact betting big here is perfect...if you have a hand. :)
Tho, board on flop is dry.

I might be the first see-what-happens-if-you-try-to-switch-sites hostage :)

On a more serious note though, I think I should have folded to the F raise. Because from that point on I was just spewing money I guess, probably I was behind even with my top pair. Or is it possible Villain is so aggressive with a FD?

The difference is so huge between BSS and SSS?

There is a difference. You do not have much space for maneuvres with the shortstack. You get easily committed.

For me, sss is kind poor. U dont have room to really improve ur game.

I think the fact we are short makes it even less likely for villain to do this with FD.

Short stackers usually tend to play w high equity hands... and less speculative ones.

They play with a lot more narrow ranges when SSS.

i would bet flop if i had a club in my hand. As played youhave to call flop raise since you getting right odds.

I would go with checkturn, call or bet river line. Its easy to overplay your hand here.
