PokerStars - $0.05 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 225.2 BB
Hero (SB): 109.8 BB
BB: 144.6 BB
UTG: 52.4 BB
MP: 100.4 BB
CO: 101.2 BB

Hero posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has Q♥ J♣

fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, BB raises to 5 BB, Hero calls 2 BB

Flop: (10 BB, 2 players) 7♠ 8♣ 9♣
Hero checks, BB bets 3 BB, fold

BB wins 9.6 BB

40/40 6h

My preflop plan usually vs min3bets is to be very careful and easily let go the hand. His cbet might be still strong hand, or a draw, so I folded my GS. Did not want to raise. If he cheks flop, then I fire turn.

It is true that fish can min 3bet very strong hands but when you flop BDFD and GS I think you can call his bet because it is so small.

I am not folding on this flop. Especially vs that small bet.

Speed, u didnt folded "just" a gs. U folded the nut gutshot, w bdfd + overcards (that can be live, u dont know).
For me this is strong enough for calling this smal bet on flop.

actually I like it. But overcards, might make me lose even more if I hit, because it also hits his range, especially Q.
Raising probably cannot be done, because I almost do not have fold equity. Or maybe I do, AQ, AK could fold maybe to big raise.

You have to try and figure out what is the probability they will fold vs a big raise. It is expensive move.

I dont think raising is a good option here. I do think we have surely the odds to call. Vs a really narrow range of JJ+,AQs+,KQs,AQo+,KQo, we still have 29,04% equity.

ok, we call flop. And turn is Q and he bets again 1/3. Then we have to fold top pair?
If we call, vs his range we are dominated.

ALso its hard to fold top pair once hit, so I might make more mistakes.

You have to try and figure out what is the probability they will fold vs a big raise. It is expensive move.

I think vs overcards if he cbets KQ, AQ, we do not need very big raise, 8bb should be enough. Then we need to make him fold about 38 % of time, and if he folds AQ, then we get even more folds.

He has A high, K high about 68 % of time. So even if he does not always fold AQ, we have Jx, GS equity.

On the other hand - he might rarely fold AQ to 8 bb raise.

BUt we could then raise to 11 bb, and we need 46 % fold equity, and to such raise its more likely that AQ will fold.

But the question is - how often does he have AQ and KQ when cbeting.

I think more realistic is that he cbets when he has backdoor flushdraw ( fish might not see that exactly, but I use this to reduce cbet frequency)

JJ+, AcQc, KcQc, AdQc, AhQc, AsQc, AcQd, AcQh, AcQs, KdQc, KhQc, KsQc, KcQd, KcQh, KcQs

then we have 20-40 % fold equity. AQ will fold less frequently now because of backdoor FD.

To call vs that range we have 24 % equity.

If I hit my straight, the board will look so scary that I can get 1 street of little value very often. ALso we have to not forget that I am OOP.

So you did not make me believe that this is an easy call :) I think at best its close.

I hope you understand that the equity we need to xc is not equal to the equity we need to cbet. And it is not needed 50+% equity to xc...

If we cbet on this flop AQ and KQ may be folding, not all are calling here.

We can't c-bet. We can only donk. This hand is most definitely not in my donking range. Too few nut outs and too obvious if we hit.

I would raise otf. Fish betting small usually means that he doesn't like his hand or that he is scared of the flop. Also if he calls your raise there is a lot of good turn cards to barrel.

Why do you think that you got no fold equity?

We do have some fold equity. The problems come when we get called and hit a Q or a J (and even a 6). Then we can only lose (on average) if more money actually goes in from both of you. Only a T (non-club) is very sweet. The board is now T987. Do you think he is calling with much? I am trying to say that winning a big pot is very hard. This is why I prefer a small pot.

mmm all of them can make you lose big pot... I am not happy to see 6. J is also a hand that I am not happy with. Only Q can be good...

I think those cards are good to x/r turn as a bluff to a more creative play.

Would not donk QJ here either, but surely x/c this small bet.

Scary flop for aces. Vs a thinking player you play on to turn this hand into a bluff - whether you X-R flop or turn is just play style.

Vs a probable donkey like this (minraise 3bets pre are a great indicator), they are not going to be smart enough to fold AA/KK (or even QQ JJ) here and will broke with it very often. Take a street easily here with nut guts, overs and a BDFD. If you improve weakly (FD or pair) take another street, as the extra outs to crack an overpair keep you in the pot. Just don't call a 3rd barrel with TP only.

Jaissica, agree that maybe this player is not the best to be creative.
Because of that, I also endorse ur idea of calling turn when improved. If we hit something that breaks overpair we can easily take his entire stack (following the logic he is a bad player to bluff bc the same reason) _drink:
