US Presidential election 2016: The Betting
As the race for the White House gathers pace, we take a look at the runners and riders and, hopefully, fallers.
In November, Americans will take to the polls in the hope of electing their preferred candidate to succeed present incumbent Barack Obama. In addition, this year also looks likely to be the year where online betting on politics really takes off.
As ever, there will be a never ending line-up of know-it-all talking heads ready to incorrectly predict the outcome. If you think you can do better, there is a great range of prices on the election outcome at our partner rooms, although these are subject to change largely depending on who Donald Trump offends in the meantime.
For the Blues:
Hilary Clinton: The very forgiving wife of ex-president Bill has had her eye on the big prize for some time now and has played the long game perfectly. The current favourite is a best price of 10/11, which you can take at Titan Bet, even after Clinton came off worse after going to toe with surprise package Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire recently.
Bernie Sanders: Despite being 74, Sanders seems to have emerged as the overwhelming choice for young voters, after he secured 84% of the under 30's vote in Iowa and New Hampshire. While his followers want the Democrats to be more left-wing, what the rest of the country want is still up for debate - can America really stomach the thought of a "socialist" president? Despite his surge in the polls, William Hill are still offering 10/3 for Colonel Sanders to secure the Democrats nomination, a price which might not last long.
In the Red corner:
Donald Trump: A walking opinionated rug, Donald J Trump, who refers to himself in the third person, enjoyed a revival this week after a strong showing in the latest primary. The question is whether his unique brand of casual racism will play well in middle America, let's hope not, but bet-at-home.com are laying 8.0 that Donald J. Chump doesn't bust out with a Trumpetty Trump.
Marco Rubio: The Republican favourite after also-ran Ted Cruz gave Trump a bloody nose (not literally sadly) in Iowa last week. Rubio looks like he's since wasted his brief momentum and his fading performance will likely see his election price drift away too. That said, he could still get the tickets to be the Republican runner and Coral are offering Evens for him to do so. Incidentally, Rubio has the endorsement of billionaire casino owner and online poker nemesis Sheldon Adelson.
The Betting
A slightly more reserved Netbet are offering party outcomes only at the moment, where you can back a democrat victory at 4/7 or 5/4 for a Republican winner. Of course, no runner has yet to secure their party's official nomination and most sites are offering prices for these too.
