The 88th Academy Awards
This Sunday, Tinsletown's finest get together for their annual love in and bookmakers are offering value that could see you win big on the night too.
The high point of the movie awards season is upon us once more as, this Sunday, Hollywood's brightest gather together for an enlightening evening of back patting and pre-rehearsed acceptance speeches, all hopefully held together by US comedian Chris Rock.
With excitement building, anyone looking to have a few side bets on the big night should take a look at our partner rooms. From Best Original Score through to Best Film in a Foreign Language and everything else in between, there are markets available for all the awards being presented on the night.
As always however, all eyes turn to the glamour awards such as best picture, actor, actress as well as director. Although bookmakers have narrowed some of the value on most of those, including the best director category for which there is currently a runaway best price of 1/7 at Netbet for Mexico's own Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, creator of The Revenant.
Elsewhere however, there's a little more fun to be had.
Best Picture
This category looks like a straight shootout between frontier epic The Revenant and Church V Journalism dispatch Spotlight. The latter had been the early front runner, however it has since been displaced by The Revenant following strong showings at both The Golden Globes and The Baftas. With a strong cast, The Big Short's tale of the US housing crisis was expected to do well too but has now drifted as far out as 6/1.
Leading Actor
By far the odds on favourite is a sometime poker shark, one time Wall Street wolf and now friend of bear, Leonardo DiCaprio. The price for Leo has floated as far out as 1/100 which kind of tells its own story. Last year's winner, Eddie Redmayne efforts as a Danish girl comes next in the betting followed by true life depictions of Steve Jobs and Dalton Trumbo from Michael Fassbender and Bryan Cranston respectively.
Leading Actress
Ever the uplifting category, the front runner is relative newbie Brie Larson, once seen in 2014's Poker related movie The Gambler. This time out, Larson plays a young mum that's been locked away in a room for seven years before being released into the wild. It's a performance which the bookmakers expect to trump Saoirse Ronan's age old Ireland to America, escape from poverty tale. Elsewhere, there's not much to choose between Jennifer Lawrence's Joy and Cate Blanchett's Carol, which is duly reflected in the betting.
