Hero (SB): $17.01 (106.3 bb)
BB: $30.28 (189.3 bb)
UTG: $8.56 (53.5 bb)
MP: $16.16 (101 bb)
CO: $16 (100 bb)
BTN: $18.67 (116.7 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q Q
3 folds, BTN raises to $0.40, Hero raises to $1.44, BB folds, BTN calls $1.04

Flop: ($3.04) 8 9 5 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.45, BTN calls $1.45

Turn: ($5.94) A (2 players)
Hero??

Preflop: My standard value 3bet. BTN plays 24/17 in 259 hands (steals 32% on the BTN), folds 22% vs 3bets (0/2 on the BTN).

Flop: Standard cbet for value and protection. He folds 44% to flop cbets IP (1/3 in 3bet pots) and calls 33% (1/3 in 3bet pots).

Turn: My hand is not strong enough to bet for value, but I'm not sure is it strong enough to check/call. His turn bet vs missed cbet is 75%. If I check/call, can I do anything but check/fold most rivers?

Well that's a tricky spot.
Since he doesn't fold much to cbets and bets vs missed cbet a lot I think x/f would be quite weak.
Villain has a lot of Ax in his range but there is weaker hands also.
If we bet here we would isolate ourselves vs better hands. If we check we let him bet with his draws and weaker pockets. But then we have to x/f river.
Betting turn and then making a small block bet OTR sounds expensive but villain might be able to fold his lowest AXs hands...

Too difficult decision for a fish like me so I will go back to check folding even if villain exploits us :f_biggrin: :f_biggrin:

How many Ax hands does villain really have that floated the flop? AK 4bet, you block AQ + the AQ with fd. As played I would bet again ott and bet any club river.

Could we check otf with this hand to balance the times we have Ahigh on this board as we should not cbet this board with AK,AQ etc.

Yes we block AQ but it doesn't make it impossible for villain to have it. Button defends wide vs 3bets and he can be defending ATs-AQs, ATo-AQo. Villain can sometimes defend AK by checking too. He can have A2s-A5s also. So there is some AX hands really. He will call those OTF especially if they are clubs, or then he can just call with 2 overs.

I think we have to cbet here and I think cbetting is not that bad even if we had AK,AQ.
Imo it is more important here to get value and protect our hand than worry about balancing.

Villain has enough Ax - AQs-ATs, AQo-AJo...
The question is that we have Ax too.

Thats why Im barreling the turn and river as played (club or "blank" river) with this hand aswell- we can apply tons of pressure to the smaller AX hands. And when the club hits otr it is nice spot to bet with our flush blocker as he should fold often his big Aces too.

Nothing wrong with cbetting here - just an thought that you could sometimes check it.

Also why do you want to cbet AK etc here If villain calls with overcards (-> he does not fold often)as you said?

Agree with the cbet on turn. Villain can fold a big chunk of his range.

It doesn't matter so much what we actually have, the range we represent matters more. We will be 3betting JJ+ here too so we can easily have overpairs. Barreling turn too has good fold equity and we still have 6 outs =)

BTW: You wanted to check QQ because we will be checking AK,AQ here too to make our play balanced. Isn't this wrong? We would end up checking 100%. If we want to play balanced we should bet both overcards and overpairs 50% so villain never knows which we hold? If we always check AQ+ with out hit, villain knows that we didn't hit. So we can check this hand if we sometimes bet it. And we should be check raising some of those times we check.

You just wrote that what I meant.

As most of our high card hands miss this flop we should have slightly bigger checking range on this flop as lets say on Kxx flops. --> we should check some of our big pairs sometimes a little bit often on low card flops. Of course we are still cbetting some of the time with missed hands like AK and PPs.

But vs bad players we dont need to worry about this. Vs regs I like to balance.

I might confuse you a little bit as I don't know how to say what I mean.

But this is already offtopic from OP;s question so lets end it here .

Difficult hand -> after a raise on turn... which hand do you win? JJ? 10/10? maybe some cards from clubs?
-> otherwise its a 3bet and a A is on you're range...

(I have not read the other replies.) This is a tough spot, and there are three viable plays (bet-fold, check-call, check-fold). My advice would be to see what your entire range is in this point and start from there. Then make sure that the checking range (check-call + check-fold) is not too weak. This way you'll automatically have some confidence in a spot like this and don't need to worry about "looking weak" when you check with the intention of folding (if that is what you'll do), because you have hands in the range that can stand a bet. Betting and folding is okay too - as is checking and calling. What is important is what you do with the entire range. This must be balanced somehow, and that is up to you.
