Hi everyone. I'm new to poker so I guess you could say that I am one of these --> :f_p:

You'll probably see me a lot here as I try and weed out the mistakes in my game. Please go easy with me; I'm quite happy to accept criticism but I don't want any form of abuse as I get plenty of that at the table because I'm a "gurrrrrl". I know I'm a fish and my game probably has more leaks than a colander. Anyway, I'm running real bad right now as everyone who needs chips seems to suck out against me.

In the following hand I was well below average chips and had around 19bb. I called a raise preflop with J9s because I thought 19bb was too much to shove over the PFR with that hand. 10bbs and I wouldn't hesitate. BB player behind me called too. On the flop I had a double gutshot and two overcards to the flop. I thought the raiser might have had two high cards which would give me a total of 14 cards to improve my hand along with a back door flush possibility and so I went with it. One of my errors was discounting the caller behind who ended up chewing my butt. It turns out that I didn't have as many outs as I thought after I saw his hand but I still think I was right to do what I did.

I hope I've done the history right using a converter. Never done it before so point out anything I've done wrong like leaving anything out or putting too much in. Thanks.

I'm all ears for your opinions. :f_confused:

Lillie

P.S. I meant to shove but I clicked 'Pot' instead of 'Max'

Anyway, you've obviously gone to far shoving there. I'd take into consideration the situation you don't call that J9s preflop when your down to 20bb. In tournamets you don't wanna be drawing all the way to the river committing yourself to the pot.

Hi. Yea intersting hand. For PF call with that hand you need to know what kind of opponent you are against and even more important what is your plan post flop with that hand? How will you play when you hit TP, 2 pairs, FD, flush, straight or SD? How will you play if board misses you? Is MP c-betting all his raising hands and c/f turn or river if he doesn't hit or if he have 2nd, 3rd pair? What is MP post flop tendencies when he is raising PF? It seems really complicated when you read it, but with time those questions became automatical. And this is most of the time reason why is better to start with just 1 tabling.

As played post flop, I don't like raising. Yes you have double gutter and BDFD, but you must discount hearts from SD, because most of the time opponent will call you with nut FD and over cards. Or some other hand that is already better then yours. I suggest you to download PokerStrategy Equilab. Very useful tool for those analyzes. You can see how much equity you have and how much equity you need.
Another important think is that you are in multiway pot. That means that is more likely that board hit some opponent than if you are in HU pot.
Also overcards can't be really your outs, because opponent can have better kicker. Like AhJh or Ah9h. So you have a lot of reverse implied odds here. Even if you hit your straight opponent can have better one (Th9h) if you hit straight with 6 on turn.

I would call flop bet and fold on turn if heart came or if my hand don't improve into straight. I would fold even if FD came on turn, because of effective stack siize (most important information before you put any chip into play). If opponent check on turn and I hit FD, I would just check back. If I hit straight and opponent check, I would bet 63% of the pot and shove river if heart doesn't came on river. otherwise check back.

I hope that I don't hurt your passion for that beautifull game. Especially for learning it. :f_p:

You will need a thick skin to succeed at poker because emotions get the better of nearly everyone who plays it with the exception of Phil Ivy of course. So remember that old adage, 'Sticks and stones may break my bones.'

I get what you're saying but I'm fed up of the abuse/sarcasm/sexual innuendo I get because I'm female. I've been called b*, c, sl** and other things at the table and I've only been playing a month. It's got so bad I mostly turn my chat off now when I play and hide myself from search; the moderators are a joke and do nothing if you report it. God knows what these people would be like if I hit a set on the river to bust them; probably hire a hitman!

Yes, simply turn the chat off, problem solved. To be honest I don't know why poker sites bother with chat boxes anyway. Nobody uses them unless it is to vent off steam.

I appear to have been living in some sort of parallel universe here. How do they know your a girl? Change the avatar or ask for one-time nickname change because of the abuse you experience. Unless you were talkin about live poker right from the word go.

If you get abused at an online game like this on PokerStars you can always send a mail to chat@pokerstars.com with the tournament ID and table numbers and they will take action for you.

I am looking on that problem from another corner. It is really bad that moderators doesn't do anything. But what do you expect them to do. Ban that player from there site? Then they will lost probably 80% of people that play there. That is there reason why they don't act or just maybe warm them about unpropriate behaviour.

Basically everyone gets those insults and I am not exception. But I am glad when someone chat with me like that. Off-course I don't respond because I don't have time to deal with that, but I instant know that opponent is recreational player, maybe even drunk, what is superb for me. So I love when someone go crazy in chat, because I know that I will get his money on long run for sure.

So don't worry about that because you can't change anything. Be happy about that (as silly as it sounds) and just focus how to take there money. This is all what is important. Let them chat what they want. Because of that your win rate go up.

I expect that they will get first a warning and without listening they remove the chat rights of the players that’s misusing the chat for abusing and other inappropriate behavior and than they can still play on the site. It’s off course its better if you can’t handle this kind of stuff that you don’t watch the chat window.

Yea probably is like that.

But still. I wanna let them be what they are. I don't wanna loose those guys, because they are making me money. Just ask yourself. What kind of player is more likely to be winning one and what kind will be loosing one. My personal opinion is that opponents that are insulting a lot are the best costumers, because they are tilting very often and making mistakes and this brings me money. So why rune there invarioment. Why stop them doing what brings you money? Please let them to do what they are doing. Whit insults you won't die. Fillings are what you can control. So don't buther about there words and just about there mistakes that they are doing at the table.

Ouch! I did as you suggested and got an immediate insta-moan from PokerStars along with a threatening email. You could have told me it was a banned tool when PokerStars client was open. Had to grovel to them. :f_eek:

Ok, simple question: is the shove correct? I can't see that folding is an option and calling is a large portion of my stack. Would it ever be right to call and see the turn with a view to folding if I miss or maybe get a free on the river if a scare card comes for him? (I put villain on top pair, decent kicker).

You can have opened only tracking software (like PokerTracker or Holdem Manager) when your poker client is open.

HAND:
I suggest you that you put one hand per thread.
I would personaly fold PF. Most of the time you will be in tricky spot post flop and will loose money on long run without very good knowladge of what to do with that hand and against what opponent to play it. As you already mention you are beginner and I really suggest you to play straight forward at the beginning untill you get to use to all concepts of the game and then open up PF ranges.
OESD and FD is very strong one, but not in multiway and not when you have such a small FD, because of reverse implied odds. Because of that I would make tight fold here. Initial raiser c-bet and caller raise. So both of them most likely have better hand already and they can have better FD which they won't fold. If you are against recreational player, you can get called with AJ of hearts when you shove and you are crushed by it.
I would fold PF and fold on flop after that action.

Thanks, mylove. I guess I like to take those small suited hands too much, even to a raise provided there is another player in the pot. The flop was the kind of flop I was looking for (apart from the obvious 2-pair/trips/flopped flush) as it gives me a chance to bust someone. Probably been watching too many pros on tv doing it. :f_grin:

Ok, I'm here for advice, and I'm gonna listen to you. Just one question further concerning this hand: is it ever right to take that hand in that situation to try and break someone? Like would it be ok with a larger stack? Or should I just muck them to a raise each time?

Thanks for advice, I'll post any further hands in a new thread. I thought it might have been best to keep them all in the same thread. You know, a sort of "Lillie needs help" thread. :f_thumbsup:

Unfortunately you may only use PokerStrategy Equilab while the PokerStars is not open. This is too comply with recent changes to PokerStars 3rd party tool policy which states you cannot use a tool in play that compares the value of you and your opponent's hands/ranges.

I have recently clarified this with PokerStars Game Integrity.

I guess this is $1 90-man SNG. And on those tournaments you don't look to bust someone out, unless he is very good player. Tournaments where you are looking to bust someone out are knockouts, bounty builders, etc. Yea and it is not good to play hand because you like it. Play it because you make a read that it would be profitable play.

With larger stack you can consider calling on flop. But effective stack (smallest stack in play) should be at least 50bb. But if UTG 3bet, then you need to fold.

Actually I play the 180 SNGs along with some lower-stake MTTs. Also "bust someone out" was probably the wrong term. Better term would be to "double my stack or better" which is why I sometimes play the 'ikkle' cards.

I'm getting a bit disheartened with tournament play at present. Apart from when I'm a short stack and in 'shove or fold' mode, I'm getting knocked out of all my tournaments with the best hand. The exceptions to this are if I meet AA or KK with AK or maybe shoving with st & fl draw on flop (even then I'm sometimes ahead) but the rest of the time I'm losing when in front, sometimes with a big advantage. Just KO'd from tourney with all chips going in on the turn. I have 2 pairs, 9s & 7s, villain has 88. River comes an 8. I know it's no worse than what others suffer but it's incessant. Sometimes it crosses my mind to play trash and suck out on them but I know it's not the right way to play. Dunno how players win tourneys constantly when you have to face this crap day in and day out. Maybe I'm just not cut out to play poker. :f_cry:
