I wouldn't be afraid of Ax, if the river hadn't shown another A I would have bet otr at the drop of a hat.

The BTN is controlling the pot using position. I would try to win this on the turn with a x/r. I do not see other suitable plans.

I expect he will check most turns as well. So check/raising isn’t working to often I think.
So betting is most likely better on the turn.
The river I would most likely make a thin value bet and fold on a raise.

Cheers,

Xr on this board will lead you to face Ax and fold all hands that you beat.
Plus the pot will grow and you don't need that with your hand.

I do not think he has the A or he would bet the flop. The x/r is a bluff, if checked back though we keep the pot small like you said. What is the reason to bet the turn, what is Hero representing?

I do not like turning a hand with equity into a bluff.
We bet the turn because flop went x-x.
I do not mind making fold hands with equity.

Often when we stab turn like this we have to stab river too. Villain can call one street with JJ-KK but will fold if we barrel river again. I would make a thin valuebet and fold to a raise OTR.

On this board you should think that why your villain does not cbet. Cbet would be really standard on this board if villain has AX/ air. Most likely villain has some mid pair when he does not cbet.

I would check/call IF villain is agressive. Check/fold IF villain is passive as I don't see any worse hands(villains value hands/most likely hands here are JJ-KK and we beat none)

I agree that villain probably has some midpairs here. Many times I have stabbed turn with air but villain calls one street. When I check river I see a mid pair that is better than mine which would have folded to river bet.

I think Hero is ahead too, villain must have a lower pair, Kx or suited connectors. But it is too thin to bet the turn for value at this level.
In this spot I am more confortable checking to a cheap showdown or if in the mood for some fancy play that x/r on the turn I talked about.

Yeah well, I bet 0.69 and he raised me :f_biggrin:

I think the lesson here is that he is a nit. He could easily have checked AQ OTF (AK he missed value IMO). I was almost certain that he had QQ or KK but apparently, he hadn't..

I already told you that some villains play Ax this way. Board is dry and they like to play this way not to scare opponents.
Mid pairs may cbet here. ..

Well, you got it the hard way. He is not missing value by checking this flop as you will fold much without an Ace...

Checking from the turn onward. I did not check the flop, Hesticus did.
And you are fixated with villain holding Ax when villain did not bet a A high flop and we saw two As appear on a heads up board.

Well think about it- you hold AK. Board is dry and if you bet villain will fold all non Ace holdings.
You x flop and villain starts betting ...
I like it. You?
