Xc .
Why bet bigger if you will fold vs a raise. You have 10 outs and you do not want to go crazy pumping money in.

The same amount of money goes in if we bet fold or check call but by check calling we give up our fold equity and initiative and we might face difficult decision OTR where we have no clue what to do if villain bets again. Also fourth heart will kill the action and villain could hold a single heart hand. So from those 2 I like bet folding more.

But how about bet call? You still have equity vs flushes. Although our equity is not that great that we could call a shove.

Bet folding is the worst you can do.
Bet/call is not that worse as You can improve but it is -EV.
You have a strong hand that is losing to flush but has equity to improve. Xc is good.
4th heart is killing you too, so we should not bother about that.

What is your plan then on the river? Just x/f unimproved?

I think there are a million articles on the internet on how to play a set when a flush completes... just kidding. I would have played this as played and called the shove. I cannot remember the last time I folded a set as it is way ahead and can always improve to a boat or quads.

Imo we shouldn't switch to passive mode every time some better hands are possible. Betting here has a lot of fold equity and is often +EV. Villain will call one more street with some worse hands and fold a big part of his range. So if bet fold is the worst one, then bet call is imo the best.

What would be your plan when villain bets river too and we don't improve? x/f? x/c again and see his flush? Why would we call OTT just to fold OTR?
If villain bets 1/2 pot we have enough implied odds to call it and see river but if it is bigger we should fold OTT.

Bet and fold to a shove for example. If you bet, villain will rarely shove with less than a flush and we don't have enough equity to call it. But by betting he will most of the time fold or call with a worse hand.

What hands will fold? Better hands folding? No... what FE are we talking here?
If he is folding all hands that we beat and continues with better hands and hands with equity , why do we pump the pot?

I beat worse hands myself. Why make them fold?

There is bunch of hands that will fold. Pocket pairs and weaker Kx.

You wont get any value from those hands that will fold here. But there are some that can call one more street and then give up. Those might check back turn and heart river will be bad.

Why make them fold is the question. We beat them anyway...

We should bet smaller if we target those but still thay may not call on flush board.
The only sure hands are the flush and 1-to-a-flush hands.

Cause it's mw pot I like x/c or bet small line, in HU pot I'll take aggressive line and bet big and ready to go broke.
As played I'm calling turn raise.

Yuck!

This is the sort of situation where there are impeccable arguments for doing both this and that, and all arguments are qualitatively true. There is only one way out: Hard work and detailed assumptions about villains ranges and behavior.

Once you do get faced with a big raise, resort to game theory is also possible. Thus, as played: It is a trivial fold from a GTO perspective. You have straights and flushes of your own in your range - and he raised = expensive bluff if he bluffs -> few bluffs there if he plays well. (Pot odds do not apply, the opponents investment is the relevant number.) Anything else and you are back to detailed assumptions about villains ranges and behavior = guesses. The outs may or may not motivate a call.
