Spoiler

$26.44 pot ($1 rake)
Final Board: 5 7 8 8 Q
SB showed J 7 and won $25.44 ($12.22 net)
Hero showed 8 A and lost (-$13.22 net)

Was the raise vs this fish an overplay? I didn't want to fold because I felt that I am ahead of his range. I didn't want to call either because most of the turns would bring an overcard or a straight or a flush. Or should I have folded this hand?

I think you could just call OTF. I think you have too small sample to look at villains stats accurately but he seems quite passive. I think this flop hits pretty hard. He can be raising with a draw or pair+ so we really don't know what he has. You have only weak TPTK so there is no need to raise. And I think when villain 3bets us OTF it is time to fold.

With check-caller in the hand I prefer calling on flop.

Easy flop fold because of board, hand strength and board. If you strongly think he is bluffing, just call. Raising is pretty senseless. It works only against a small part of his range, and against that small part you aren't a huge favorite.

I'm not folding to his bet even though it looks strong. Not with TPTK, really. But raising is way too ambitious, my friend. You isolate yourself vs. better and he will give up on his bluffs
