$0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

Hero (SB): $10.15 (101.5 bb)
BB: $3.50 (35 bb)
UTG: $8.72 (87.2 bb)
MP: $10.84 (108.4 bb)
CO: $10.02 (100.2 bb)
BTN: $20.07 (200.7 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A♣: 5♣:
3 folds, BTN raises to $0.25, Hero raises to $0.90, BB folds, BTN calls $0.65

Flop: ($1.90) J♦: 3♣: A♥: (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.90, Hero calls $0.90

Turn: ($3.70) 9♦: (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $1.90, Hero calls $1.90

River: ($7.50) 6♠: (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $5.70, Hero folds

No info on villain.

Pre: normal 3b bluff here.

Flop: This hand should be good as x/call or if flop goes x/x we can then bet for value usually. I like to have some Ax hands here in x/calling range instead of capping my range to Jx/QQ/KK.

Flop: villain bets and we call

Turn: is the turn call too loose or should we be just folding here?

River: the hand is too weak to call 3rd barrel so fold.

You played it okay. It is still better to c-bet flop and maybe turn. The reason is that check-calling is much harder to play because you have no idea whatsoever where you stand. He knows pretty much what you have (a reasonably big pp), so you must have a plan ready in order to start check-calling. The fact that you don't have a reasonably big pp doesn't help you. It might just as well be one. This all might mean you would have to call some (not many) Ax all the way to the river (since you play with your cards face up).

The point is that Ax doesn't really do that well as a range guard. A few two pair hands would do better.

Hmm. Interesting. Thanks for the whole answer. I think that I will have A9s or A6s here too that will call the river.

I'd c-bet flop here. Turn is xc and river is fold for me.
