What Do You Think about Freerolls.?

I played more than a thousand freerolls from 2010-2012 on every room I could play on as I wanted to try and build a BR without depositing.

If you get through the early stages, you will find the ratio of serious players to donkers will increase and it will start to represent the standard of micro/low real money MTTs.

So for me, it was a great way to work on my ranges, gain experience and learn to navigate through large fields for no cost.

Well, I've played no where near thousands, but since 2009 I've won 72.84 in freerolls.
And that's only on PokerStars.

Mind you most of those were games like 5-Card Draw, HORSE, Razz and so on.

Plus, it's a good way to kill a few hours

I never deposits . So free rolls are good even if takes longer you have free m9ney when you win

yes i really like the chance to play free rolls. been playing only about a year. I really enjoy playing at casino Niagara in Niagara falls ont.. I think it will be a very big difference when I go back there. after learning online

Really good way to learn and perhaps make bankroll without any investment. In my personal opinion every new poker player should spend some time in this massacre before first deposit.

If you don't want to deposit its a great way to learn ABC poker I started with Freerolls on Pokerstars and Full tilt. I've never deposited and have a bit of cash to play around with when I feel like dipping back in every now and then. I think if you have the patience it can be rewarding but having said that I think there were far more profitable freerolls a few years ago then there are now, but still its fun and risk free so if you don't wanna deposit go hard have fun and good luck.

it is a good way too upgrade your skills.
Once you have made it pas the the mad all ins.
Needless to say I have won good money on these. But the same strategy doesn't work on large tourney buy ins.

I've only ever cashed in two freerolls and won 2 tickets to 2nd events. I've played quite a few (at least 200). The hardest thing is just making it through the first few stages because everyone plays so unpredictable and you'll encounter a lot of shoves. My main problem is I get bored after a while and start playing stupid and usually get knocked out before the bubble.

I think the main problem with them is my mindset, I didn't spend any money entering so I don't try to play as well as I should. I did really try in my last chromestar tournament but I was put in a tough position and had to shove with A-J, other guy showed A-K and I lost. Got knocked out 13k out of 33k. It's discouraging but just gotta keep at it.

tl;dr: Freerolls are fun but they are donkaments.

freerolz are gr8 , i won trip to europe before in those , my buddy won a trip to Cyprus , won ton of cash too , freebies, for myself i juct incorporate them into the daily grind and voila, remember to have fun and enjoy the moments , good luck

I think freerolls are very good for beginners and those who don´t want to deposit money. And last but not least: freerolls are fun! When I have enough time I still play them, especially qualifiers. A great way to win tickets for MTTs you cannot afford yet.

If you are new and dont want or can afford to deposit it can be a great way to build a bankroll and learn to play ABC poker for free.

Good way to learn. Just play tight in the beginning, where there are always a bunch of people going all in. Slowly become more aggressive, and take notice of the money bubble

It could simply be all three of them.

If you make thousands a month with your dayjob, I think it's ludacris for him or her wanting to build a roll with nothing as you're basically wasting time as you can easily deposit 50$ then and start from there.
Freerolls can be alot of fun though, especially when playing them in games you don't master (omaha, 8-game, razz, ...).
Knowledge achievement yes but very very limited. You can basically learn the tendencies a bit (shoving shortstacks, reshoving 20bb stacks, opening sizes, what works what not, ...) but you won't become an above avg player by playing freerolls.

Me personally, I built one bankroll (10+ years ago) but the lack of experience made me tilt it away at some point. After that 1 deposited 10€ twice and after that I never looked back. When I made my comeback back in May, I deposited 25€ and once again, never looked back. My humble opinion says freerolls are a waste of precious time you could spend shipping 6$ in 0.50$ games. Just my opinion, I can understand not everyone wants to deposit or has the money available to do so.

I think freerolls are great when you are learning the game. Getting MTT experience for free, is literally priceless.

But the free part of the roll, comes with some odd variables. Especially during the early- to mid-stages of the game. Since no one is risking a buy-in, there will be a lot of random All-ins up until the first break or so.
Do no expect good poker in the first hour and use this time to practice your patience. Which is key if you are serious about poker and is something you need to practice, it does not come naturally to anyone.

The amount of players in a freeroll is also a big factor. Usually with 10k+ players, the chance of winning is really small, even if none of them know how to play poker.
With that said, a freeroll becomes more a game of chance than a game of poker. You will not be able to build a bankroll playing freerolls but you will get a lot of experience in playing poker, for free.

So if the efforts are unnecessary or not, depends on your goals and your approach to the tournament.
If you play every hand consciously you can walk away with a lot of valuable experience. Think about why you fold the pockets 4s, instead of snap-folding them and alt-tab to a youtube-video or whatever some people do.

If you make a note of the hands when you faced a difficult decision and review them later on, the experience will be as good as playing any game.

At Sunday i won 1679$ at a freeroll,,, so i do think there is freerolls that are worth playing even for regular players..

When i started to play poker 15 years ago i spent alof of time playing freerolls so i could build up a bankroll and learn to play poker, i think its a good way to learn poker basics without risking your own money but you will not get rich from them

Before it was more freerolls where you could win trips, things,, they do still exist at some rooms but not in same amount as before, today alot of rooms offers allin freerolls which i think is a shame since new players dont really get a chance to play poker and in long term for poker in general i think it hurts more then it do good..

good place to earn extra money:f_drink:
bad place to learn poker:f_frown:

i think everyone MUST play freerolls before first deposit. it is not best play for learn about poker (because of ridiculous all inn-s, mostly) but you can learn how to be calm just easy and you can even earn some money. not much but you can invest that money in your poker experience.

I wish I had followed your advice. I played "Play Money" for a few months before my first deposit, and almost couldn't lose, but the difference between Play Money and Real Money is extreme.

Freerolls would have been better -- except perhaps that the win rate in freerolls might have been discouraging.

Freerolls are okey. Sometimes i hate those cause so many noobs and peopple sitting out but good way to make some cash and kill time.
