Hi guys
Yesterday I played a 10€ MTT on Everest Poker. I had qualified by freeroll. I´m not an MTT reg, usually I play turbo 6-max and 10-max Sit and Goes and DoNs.

Here I would like to show you a hand I guess I misplayed ..... how would you have played?

iPoker - <> NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4: http://www.pokertracker.com

Hero (BB): 62.49 BB
UTG: 89.22 BB (VPIP: 21.43, PFR: 19.05, 3Bet Preflop: 5.88, Hands: 42)
UTG+1: 55.46 BB (VPIP: 21.43, PFR: 11.90, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 42)
MP: 30.73 BB (VPIP: 24.00, PFR: 16.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 25)
MP+1: 64.58 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 9)
MP+2: 53.19 BB (VPIP: 19.51, PFR: 2.44, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 41)
CO: 110.85 BB (VPIP: 28.21, PFR: 23.08, 3Bet Preflop: 25.00, Hands: 42)
BTN: 59.58 BB (VPIP: 5.88, PFR: 5.88, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 17)
SB: 81.25 BB (VPIP: 39.13, PFR: 26.09, 3Bet Preflop: 12.50, Hands: 23)

9 players post ante of 0.08 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 2.25 BB) Hero has J♦ K♦
UTG raises to 2.3 BB, fold, fold, fold, MP+2 calls 2.3 BB, fold, fold, fold, Hero calls 1.3 BB

Flop : (8.15 BB, 3 players) 3♣ J♥ 5♦
Hero bets 4.07 BB, UTG calls 4.07 BB, fold

Turn : (16.3 BB, 2 players) 2♣
Hero checks, UTG bets 7.3 BB, Hero calls 7.3 BB

River : (30.9 BB, 2 players) 6♠
Hero checks, UTG bets 13.9 BB, Hero calls 13.9 BB

UTG shows K♣ K♥ (One Pair, Kings)
(Pre 86%, Flop 87%, Turn 95%)

Pre flop it´s a clear call due to the pot odds.

At the latest I should have folded river, or already the turn?

The flop is pretty dry and I would always check to the raiser and in this situation I would check/call the flop, because this is a spot you are in front of far behind and then you control the pot better.

As played I think it’s difficult to fold top pair decent kicker, but I don’t think he will 2 barrel the turn and river with less than an over pair and is folding the river most likely better if you don’t have reads on him.

Cheers,

Thats not a clear and fast rule though, it depends on the effective stack (which in this case is indeed 15BB) and not just your stack.

That´s what I thought too ...... afterwards! Ouch!

There are only a few hands I can beat here. I called because I saw Villain at least 7 times raising from UTG before so I put him on a wide range also because my table image was very tight (well, I was just card dead!!).

But what the heck do I beat here? 99, TT, 88, 77, AK, AQ, ATs something like that but you´re absolutely right: Would Villain have played such a hand like that? NO! He bets half of the pot making sure that I pay with my jack. I bet the flop so it´s not difficult to guess that I may have the jack.

Yes, the better play would have been:

*check-call flop
*check-call turn
*fold river

It´s wrong to commit myself with a hand like this early in the tournament, especially against an unkown.

You can play as I played maybe against a maniac..?

Against a maniac you can play it like this, but then I would let him betting all the time to keep his range as wide as possible.

Yes. But against an unknown I should have found a (tight) fold.
