How to handle tilt and keep calm?

I'm playing online poker for a year and half and I think this is the biggest leak in my gameplay. So, how do you stay calm and concentrated after you get sucked out by 74/52 whale with 74o on your set of kings? I try to console myself with usual "my play is a long run winning play" and try to realize mistakes when I make some, but when RNG Gods (Read = Stars!) decide to turn their back on you and similar things happens in a couple of minutes I tend to lose it. I lose the grip of my gameplay and my gameplay overall gets weak and I start to make mistakes...

So please - how do you handle this situations?

Hello StruxXx,

It sounds like thoroughly bad luck. Taking a break after continuous bad beats helps me. It took me a few years to become emotionless when a bad beat occurres and it is a skill that takes time to master. There are lots of blogs and learning meterial here to help you in overcoming tilt, especially the mental game. Have a read first of the link below. Schnitzelfisch does a lot on the mental game and I found his meterial very helpful.
The Quick Guide to Skyrocketing Your Poker and Life Productivity
I am on my mobile at the moment and will post you the links to some good reading meterial tomorrow.

My regards

Matt

You could read The Mental Game of Poker 1&2, those books helped me a lot.
Variance is normal in poker. Sometimes you get sucked out and sometimes you are the one sucking out :)

You just think that your play is profitable on the long run. I know losing to a fish is extremely irritating but if you would never lose to fish, there would be no fish playing at all.
Don't look at your results while playing. Close your eyes, count to 10 and forget the hand you just lost. At some point you get used to it and won't be so effected about those bad beats.

What games and limits do you play? We should be able to link you to some strategy and/or videos specific to what you play.

Here is a link to =en&submit=Search&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=yw88WOGgMeKfgAbRrbnABQ/"]Schnitzelfisch videos worth watching.

I would also recommend a blog, as you will profit from the following advantages:

• By documenting your progress and career you will increase both your motivation and endurance.
• You will work on your game automatically by discussing tricky spots with other members.
• During a downswing you will profit from psychological support and encouragement.
• With time passing by you will get to know a lot of cool people and even build some friendships.

Other information that may be of help to you.

I'm currently playing NL5 and try to STT some bounty builders on the micro scale. Anyhow I played NL10 way back when I had a proper bankroll to play it and I was beating it. Anyhow life needs got me so I had to withdraw the money and I bought myself a car. Since I'm still paying it out my current goal is withdrawing at least 100 - 150 bucks per month to pay my loan. And that's the main reason why I'm still at NL5 since I can't build up my bankroll. Anyhow poker is not my main income. Besides studying (University of business and economics - last damn year!) I'm working at bookies - part time work (student job).

Once again thanks a lot. I think this videos will be very helpful, not only in poker, but in life too :)

When tilt visits me I just stop playing and rest because my goal is to earn money not gamble.
