Hero (SB): 127.5 BB
BB: 122 BB (VPIP: 39, PFR: 18, 3Bet Preflop: 20, Hands: 29) - agg f. 3, high cb, high probe, overall aggro

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 8♣ J♥ J♦ Q♥

Hero raises to 3 BB, BB calls 2 BB

Flop: (6 BB, 2 players) T♣ 4♥ 8♠
Hero bets 4.5 BB, BB calls 4.5 BB

Turn: (15 BB, 2 players) 6♥
Hero bets 10.5 BB, BB calls 10.5 BB

River: (36 BB, 2 players) 2♣
Hero checks, BB bets 17 BB, fold,

Basically I open and cb, now on the turn 97 and 75 are def possible lots of times, the reasong for betting was I can not check call or check raise and by betting I make 2p fold MAYBE but I'm not sure if my thinking is correct or I should just check fold? / from the action I'd say he had 75 that was scared to raise the turn / versus passive player I think check as he won't bet anything unless a straight, vs this aggro guy I'm thinking check fold as well since he won't be turning 2p into a bluff or check call vs smaller sizing

I think you can check-call flop. If you bet and get raised you should fold.
Your bd fd is probably good, because he would 3bet high cards IP. You have a gutshot to the nuts, a 4 is probably an out too and hes mostly going to be honest on alot of turns.

Why would be xc better than cbet flop?

Because if you get raised you have to fold your 4 clean nut outs.
If you were IP you would check back. So why put extra chips OOP?

Haha I kind of have different look on it. I don't care about those 4 outs, it's gonna hit one in 11 or so and its not necessarely that we get value when we hit so IP and OOP I rather get value from T, 8, 567, ...

Is this HU or part of 6max as you are oop postflop?

I would cbet flop, and barrell turn. Check-calling oop caps your range and then on the turn you either face a bet with capped range (hard to play) or it goes check-check. As played check-fold is bad option for river imo against player who likes to be aggressive. He represents slow played straight on the turn, which doesn't sound what he probaby has. And he shouldn't bet any 2 pair type of hands on the river (which doesn't mean he isn't doing it). If you don't want to check-call, then third barrell is an option too as you should have a lot of FE against better hands.

Some aggressive players tend to slowplay when they actually have something, so check-calling gives you information that will help to you to make $$$ out of him in the future.

It's 6max obviously since I'm OOP yeah.

But when you barrel turn don't you think aweful amount of time we will get raised and need to fold lots of equity and iso ourselves vs a strong range while all his shit from the flop folds. While if we check turn he'll bet with all kinds of shit and then reevaluate river. And on the river you say to xc but don't we have great blockers for his bluffs? Also you said aggro might slowplay when they actually hit so it's even bigger chance he has a straight on the river.

I don't think you get raised often as you barrell looks strong and he shouldn't raise junk. Instead he might fold hands that have a lot of equity versus you. C-call caps your range which makes it harder to play river oop.

I didn't mean he'd raise turn with anything other than a straight I just thought a straight is possible so often that even if he's just raising straights I'm gonna have to fold with this hand too much while it's a pretty good hand and it'd be a waste to fold it vs a straight. And which hands do you think he folds to a 2bar that have good equity against me? sets would raise otf or at least call one more street since he's IP same with 2p+gutter or so and also draws since he can rep a lot of stuff IP on the river. So I don't see much better hands folding and still we'll have tough time on the river even if we do bet.

To tackle that spot, what do you think is his calling range on the flop?

Well preflop he probably calls like 70%. On the flop any 8x+, 4x&gutter+. Agree?

Why do you think villain will be honest "on a lot of turns"?

To me this hand looks like a good hand to c/c ott. My thoughts:

  • It's a disaster to bet and get raised.
  • You have enough sd-value and equity to c/c.
  • Some better hands are likely to check back on the turn (e.g. 64**/84**/QQ**)
  • You don't have any blockers to nuts, so you'll get raised frequently if you bet.

Unless you're playing fairly tight from the sb, I don't think most people fold even bottom two-pair on the turn, so I don't really think we fold out better, even if we do fold out some equity (which is obv good).

Regarding tough river decisions, I think hearts will be easy (9 out of 44), nines will be easy (3 out of 44), board pairing cards are perceived better for our range than villain's, so those are kind of easy (9 out of 44), I think on an offsuit 7 or 5 we are way behind villain's range, so quite an easy fold (6 out of 44). So in total, we have quite a clear visibility on the river regarding our decisions imo. Hence, I think c/cing turn is what i'd do. Please elaborate why betting is better and tear apart my arguments :f_love:

Why..

Well, what is he going to 2barrel with when a straight card comes? Strong draws with added FD, 2p+fd, sets probably or he hit the straight... If the card doesnt add to his equity he probably just gives up on his barrels even with top2, giving you a free card.

You guys seem to like Cbetting this. The problem is if we Cbet this arent we merging our Cbet range to the point of Cbetting like 90 or 100%?
This is a hand that we dont mind pot control with... And this is a flop that we maybe break even with a Cbet...

@Kyyberi Yeah it caps our range but mathematically is it wrong to check-call when we have enough equity to continue but now enough when he decides to pot-raise us?

I will get back to this later. But just to remind that our equity doesn't mean anything on the turn if we can't take it to showdown.

On similar situations I go for 35% pot bet OTT. I think it has many advantages. You kind of make him define his hand.
If he raises, most of the time he has the goods so it is easy to fold, if he calls often he check behind the river, and sometimes they even fold :)

Problem with 1/3 pot bet is that you give odds to pretty much all the draws. So if you happen to have nuts, your opponent is not making a mistake if he calls with a flush draw. And that means your bet doesn't make you money in the long run.
