BTN: 113.7 BB (VPIP: 22.22, PFR: 22.22, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 9)
SB: 357.1 BB (VPIP: 20.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 6)

CO: 101.5 BB (VPIP: 7.69, PFR: 7.69, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 14)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 2♣ A♣

fold, fold, CO raises to 2.2 BB, BTN calls 2.2 BB, fold, Hero calls 1.2 BB

Flop: (7.1 BB, 3 players) 2♥ T♦ 8♣
Hero checks, CO bets 4.5 BB, fold, Hero raises to 12 BB, CO calls 7.5 BB

Turn: (31.1 BB, 2 players) 6♣
Hero bets 18 BB, CO calls 18 BB

River: (67.1 BB, 2 players) 7♥
Hero bets 72.5 BB and is all-in, fold

Hero wins 64.1 BB

I don't exactly want to check call on this flop as it's weak and we're more then likely behind, so opt for the c/r.
When he flats I assume he doesn't have a flopped set.
I think 79 would be raising the turn, we have a fair few 9's in our range still so decide to shove.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't check raise here. You can continue OTT on every 2,A or a club so I would just call here. After you choose that line, turn and river look ok to me.

So what combo's are you x/r'ing here?

The board is quite dry and I was thinking that I probably don't have a raising range at all here.
Our strong hands don't benefit that much from check raising on this board. Villain is likely going to bet the turn again in these situations, our nutted hand won't need that much protection, our range could be difficult to balance, and so on...
I checked this scenario with Snowie and it also seems to think the EV of betting and raising our sets is very similar.

If I had to choose some check raises, I would put those sets in and balance it with some gutshot&BDFD type of hands. Those that I'm not very happy to check call. But this hand I think can work well as a call. It is possible that we still have the best hand with our bottom pair and we have decent amount of cards that we can continue on OTT.

Ok so, what's your line once we x/c and he bets again on the turn?

On a club, you x/c again then x/f river on a blank? seems passive, seems weak.
On a blank turn, x/f? - seems weak.

The only way we can continue if we x/c on the flop is if we hit 2pair+ with the x/c line.

Unless i'm missing something, . . But even if he x's back the turn we still have to x through the river in which he has another opportunity to get us off our face up capped range//

On a club, ace or 2 we can check call again. I wouldn't say it is weak. It is a passive line for sure but we are out of position without initiative so that is how we play many of our hands.
On a blank turn we check fold. That is not necessarily weak either. We have other hands that we can defend with so villain can't make auto-profit by just betting any two cards. If we can get the highest expectation by check calling the flop and then folding to a blank turn, that is what we have to do :f_biggrin:
And if villain checks behind OTT I think we can turn our bottom pair into a bluff. Like in this hand, more draws open and if villain would check behind OTT it would mean he is probably capped and we can exploit that.

We don't have to win every single hand and try to pull moves just to take the pot down. According to snowie the EV of raising is about -2.5bb and calling is about +0.5BB. That is quite a big difference.

yeah this hand is spazzy. villain can definitely have 97 and sets (why would he not flat), wouldn't assume villain is capped when you rep so little and the board is reasonable for slowplaying, specially IP.
as it went, on the 4-straight you can probably blow him off at least the entire 1 pair part of his range, which is great

If I 3-bet in the hand, it would have been preflop. When he calls our check-raise, I'm pretty sure we're behind.
As played I like the river all-in bet, because that's probably the only way how we can win this pot, and chase villain off of a better hand.

Yes yes yes.
Thanks . Needed this.
I just think back to one of weasels videos about what hands we can incorporate into our x/r range and remember backdoor nut type hands fit the bill.
But as you said, no need to go spewy and try an win every pot. 😎

I would check raise this if buttons calls the cbet
You then don't have a clear call and will look super strong and the PFR has the button to worry about still, blocking sets becomes more important with strong/narrow ranges.

Here you still win if you c/c and it goes check/check
You can check raise bluff some runouts too on the river when he goes bet check bet
On an Ace people barrel way toomuch and you'll get yourself a nice pot with your 2pair
And if he barrels you off a 2x on a blank so what

The hands I'm check-raising for sure are hands like Jd7d and some mix of QJs with backdoor that don't have the luxury of being able to go double check on turn+river
