Hi!
A spot I found today and I'm not really sure how to approach. BTN is unknown.
Flop I think there's no point in betting.
Runout doesn't benefit my range, I also don't have tons of showdown value. Would you consider betting at some point? BTN doesn't seem very interested either.
How do you generally approach this type of situations?
Thank you!

I would consider Cbetting to try to represent a decent hand. As played it's really tough to bluff him of the hand without any info of him.

Something I’ve learnt is that if the villain shows any weakness you can almost always make them fold.

He checks the flop. That looks weak. I doubt this guy is smart enough to trap us so it’s time to open up. Overbet if you want. Go mad.

On the turn it’s hard to rep something strong but we don’t need to. He will probably fold hands like K high just because he has nothing. He might fold his A high if our bet is big enough. He could well fold to the turn bet, but really, we want to make our money on the river.

The pressure we apply is multiplied on the river because the beysize is bigger, and the river card is very likely to change the board up which will further help convince this guy to fold.

Ideally the river will be a king, as the villain blatantly folds his K on the turn. But any A is great too, you can go much smaller on the A to get folds off any PPs. Obvs J and Q are awesome cards for you. And if something shit comes like a pair on the board you can just overbet jam or something stupid. This dude told us he doesn’t have the nuts. He’s folding.

IMO you did nothing wrong. Never hurts to give it a c-bet shot and giving up if he calls,we will be learning more about him each move he makes.Against weak-tight straightforward players we can steal the pot when they make it clear they don't like their hand,

Hello,

The only thing I'd do in a different way was to open 3x from the utg instead of 2.4x.
With a board like that I don't see enough reasons to go mad or try to take the pot by "forcing" the fold. Furthermore, our hand still has some tiny tiny value so...
That spot, for me, fits perfectly in those hands we play in a peaceful x/f. We can't win all the pots and sometimes those pots where we are crazy to win end up to be those where we lost big amounts of € just because of stubbornness.

Cheers man!

by not seeing enough reasons,do you mean because we have nothing but over-cards we should not try to take the pot? that is the only reason I see here as a deciding factor not to bet because villain is unknown and we know nothing else. I wouldn't consider c-betting as forcing villain to fold, if we c-bet and villain holds nothing, he may simply fold. While check/folding in this spot never seems like a mistake, I don't see the harm in c-betting one time and seeing if he decides to throw away his hand or not ,if he calls and we hit a pair we can re-evaluate and if he calls and we do not turn a pair we can simply give-up. I don't personally see these pots as particularly dangerous ones for our bankroll because we are often disciplined enough to give up against an unknown villain when he calls our flop bet and we have nothing on the turn. I don't agree with your thoughts that we could potentially lose big amounts of money in this spot because of stubbornness because we are giving up when called, however I see your point of view.

I don’t think any of you realise how valuable the river bet is...

These guys played like soft little beginners. These cute little sweeties were like:

“No I don’t want the pot, you have it”

“No I don’t want it, you have it”

“No, you have it”

“No you”

Oh for fuck sake just bet already you’re in a war! The table is a battleground! We’re not playing games here...

Both these plays are weak. If you show weakness to a master he’ll tear you apart, but neither of these guys took any of the opportunities handed to them.
