Hello,

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): $2 (100 bb)
BB: $2 (100 bb)
UTG: $2 (100 bb)
MP: $2 (100 bb)
CO: $0.90 (45 bb)
BTN: $2.07 (103.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 7 9
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.06, CO calls $0.06, BTN calls $0.06, Hero calls $0.05, BB folds

Flop: ($0.26) 2 4 7 (4 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $0.13, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.13

Turn: ($0.52) 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $0.36, Hero folds

Preflop I believe my hand has some good playability in MW as most of the time it's fit or fold type of hand and when "hit" the pot should be quite easy to build.

On the flop he cbet into 3 players, it's only 1/2 bet so I put him on a few overcards and mostly pockets.

On the turn I can most of the time see pockets higher than board there therefore I decided to fold as I do not get good enough odds for my set/2pair combos and could in some rare situations be drawing dead already vs A3...

Call pre-flop multi way isn't to bad, but multi way top pair weak kicker isn't to great and he's betting in to 3 players. It's likely he has a over pair and you need to hit a backdoor flush or 2 pair to win the hand I think.

Cheers,

I think this is ok.
Preflop you're getting s great price despite being on the SB. As you said, 97s plays well postflop.
Squeezing could be an option, but with already 3 players interested you'd need to bump a massive size 3bet.
Flop check call is ok. We wanted a more spicy flop is you know what I mean, but TP against a 1/2 bet is a call.
Turn check/fold too, especially taking into account he did bet OTF vs 3 players. You have better 7x and better overpairs to defend (88, 99, TT, even JJ).

MDF is 59%. I think your hand falls into the defending range on that turn for me, and re-evaluate on river probably check-fold if hand doesn't improve and villain bets again . Villain bet into 3 people on flop but I've seen it be done with AKs,AQs, with backdoor flush etc. I don't see villain having to many 7x hands that beat your top pair, A7s 77 ? maybe 87s that you beat. Also think if he does have an over-pair there are alot of good bluffing rivers for you that could connect the board further since your check-call flop and turn would look drawy.

What about leading the turn here?
That might give you a bit more information in those spots.
Unlikely that Villain hit the board and it hits your preflop calling range pretty well.

Leading turn seems tricky with in mind he has a lot of over pairs he would Cbet the flop in to 3 players and a set is likely as well. I would be insane if he would Cbet flop with AK for example and flop is dry as well.

If he has backdoor flush on flop I can see a bet depending on the player, 2 overs and backdoor flush not the worst When we take into account his perceived range , he has decent equity if he gets called by a pair doesn’t he?

It’s 6 handed and everybody plays differently , not everyone likes giving up with AK and AQs on these boards ,

I think it's decent as played, but personally I'd check/fold on the flop when out of position like this. Top pair with sevens isn't the flop you're aiming for with this kind of hand, and there's not much to improve on, while it seems villain will likely bet turn as well.

You can do this against weak players.
Against decent opposition, you shouldn't be folding TP hands vs 1/2 bets in almost any spot.
I also agree that this isn't the type of flop we were looking for.

Hello,

thank you for your answers.
Of course with this hand we want to see a board where we have FD / SD. Pereferctly combination of both.
Casey55 what does MDF mean?

How to use minimum defense frequency

Minimum defense frequency (MDF) describes the portion of your range that you must continue with when facing a bet in order to remain unexploitable by bluffs.

In other words, MDF is the minimum percentage of time you must call (or raise) to prevent your opponent from profiting by always bluffing you. If you fold more often than the MDF indicates, your opponent can exploit you by over-bluffing when they bet.

The formula to calculate MDF is simple:

pot size / (pot size + bet size)

Then, multiply the answer by 100 to express it as a percentage.

Let’s consider an example:

Online $1/$2. 6-Handed. Effective Stacks $200.

Hero is dealt J♥ T♥ on the button
utg folds. MP raises to $5. co folds. Hero calls. 2 folds

Flop ($13): T♠ 9♥ 3♠
MP bets $8.5. Hero calls

Turn ($30): 6♦
MP bets $22.5. Hero calls

River ($75): A♥
MP bets $37.5. Hero…?

In this spot, Villain is risking $37.5 to win a pot of $75. Let’s plug that into the MDF formula:

$75 / ($75 + $37.5) = .67

The minimum defense frequency is 67% in this spot. So, if Villian were bluffing, this bet would have to force a fold at least 33% of the time to make a profit––Hero has to call more often than that to prevent Villain from exploitatively over-bluffing
