The villain is 18/12/AF1.5/3B:0/F3:80 91 hands

This was an interesting hand because it's so happens that I'm in position to stab at the pot being the last to act on flop yet ironically I actually have trips but the CR comes from an ultra nit...

PokerStars - $0.16 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 120.06 BB
BB: 133.31 BB
UTG: 42 BB
CO: 100 BB
Hero (BTN): 100 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 9♣ 8♣

UTG calls 1 BB, fold, Hero calls 1 BB, SB calls 0.5 BB, BB checks

Flop: (4 BB, 4 players) 9♦ A♣ 9♥
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets 1.25 BB, SB raises to 4 BB, fold, fold, Hero calls 2.75 BB

Turn: (12 BB, 2 players) Q♦
SB bets 5.06 BB, Hero calls 5.06 BB

River: (22.13 BB, 2 players) 2♠
SB bets 9.31 BB, Hero ???

Thoughts?

Pre-flop raise.

Yeah I'd raise the river but I don't think he will call.

easy raise preflop

In this case I prefer bigger flop bet. You play with UTG fish in multiway limped pot.

hard to think of many 9x hands that makes sense in a nits range your beating, If he's nit I don't know if hes playing 97,96,95 so that leaves 98,T9,J9,Q9,K9,A9. Its a chop versus T9,J9 and your losing to Q9,K9,A9, if hes so nitty he's limping AA that's a whole different thing. Since your chopping versus 3 hands and losing to the other 3 I'm not sure , I just opened equilab and against this range your equity is 26% and you need like 22% to call so I guess its a call. He should'nt have queens because those should'nt be check-raising flop

Why do you think villain has a 9x hand here?

Because OP said he’s a nit. Nits usually play like this when they have the nuts, I don’t think he is check raising with just an ace ,Maybe he does though I’m not sure I’m just going by what OP says when he says the player is an Ultra Nit

it'd be easier if villain made a min bet on the flop to see what he's made off but now we'll never know and might just go all-in on flop and take it down

It's correct to raise OTR vs 1/2 for sure. Calling is correct too. 98s is not the strongest 9x you have.
The only thing you can't do is fold.

If he is truly a nit, 9s are not likely in his range, but AQ surely is, as are AA and QQ.
The problem here is that if you raise, what are you going to do with a shove?

I prefer the call, but then I'm πŸ”

He won't ever fold better, but he can certainly call with worse, and there is plenty of worse hands in his range.
zetozinho, would you fold to a re-shove at this limit?

Cheers,
VS

Lets see. Limped pot, check/raise on a A99 board, super dry, totally capped and the owner as told us he's a nit.
So I think we can discard AA, 99 from his range as he's a 18/12 and those hands are clear iso's preflop.
He will have those A2s, J9s, Q9s, QTs, Q8s etc that prefer to limp.
I think we can all agree his flop raise is mostly for value, he doesn't have bluffs.
Turn adds a few more.
River is the biggest blank card in the deck, so nothing changes.
Taking into account we are also capped (but at least we realize that, I hope), entering a raise battle OTR is suicide imo now that I make this more in-depth analysis of the hand.
We are always behind vs river 3bets at NL10 (always). Doesn't matter the board, the runout, whatever. That being, said, I'd fold. If they "can't have" that hand because they didn't bet flop or turn, or whatever, the gods of cards will make sure that when they raise they will have it, against all the logic.
Probably the only hand I'd raise/call would be K9s (apart from the obvious hands), even if it was for the sake of discharge of conscience and mental sanity.
Even at a higher limit it would be the mouse and cat game and I prefer to avoid those setups.

Sorry but does noone c/r these boards on as a bluff precisely because people think like this? I c/r these spots in pre-flop raised pots.
This may be affecting my decision on the hand but I'd never fold the river.
