Hello all, I have been playing poker for 19 years and I was defiantly a product of the moneymaker boom. I lived in Vegas and played full time live for a few years back between 2009-2011. Also, I had played around 800k hands online between 2004-2011. I took a hiatus from playing for about 8 years until I had some recurring feelings of me not playing at my best and that there was more fuel in the tank. I proceeded to play live at the local casino regularly and had a decent string of results. The distance and time it took to play didn't help as well as my work schedule and family didn't coincide. I wasn't on the strip in Vegas with all the options to play 24/7. With my time being limited I decided to fire up the old laptop and give it a go. I played the same limits as I did back in the day. 6 max 25nl,50nl and 100nl, bankroll depending and obviously if I was winning I could move up. I mixed it up playing around 10k hands at each level noticing I felt pretty comfortable given being out of the loop for so long. I ended up pretty much break even, to up a few buy ins, to down a few. Its been like that for a while without a long stretch of wins. Mind you I haven't put in a ton a volume and the sessions are spaced out. I'm currently down almost 2k this year and I'm really starting to look for solutions. I go threw my hand histories on hem2 and try to correct any mistakes but there must be more to it. I had good players around me as I moved up in stakes back in the day and I always tried to do work off the table but a lot has changed since 2009 for me. Maybe I'm too far gone out of the loop or maybe not, I might need some adjustments in and out of play and possible software upgrades? Up to date coaching with a known winner? Study group?
Time will tell but I really want to crush 50nl at the moment. I'm going to start posting some of my hands and see where it goes. Just before I posted this I was considering to quit playing online but I realized before I do I might as well share this the community and do whatever I can to get better and win. I owe it to all the grinders and my self of course, who doesn't want to be a winner.

Hi MP348! I also stopped playing 10 years ago and am trying to pick it up again, it is good to know I am not alone! π Don't give up, just do your best! I do find that talking about poker on this forum is helping me drastically upgrade my game and my most profitable decision so far was to start asking questions here, which I felt were "dumb". But the guys here are giving such clear and well thought through answers, that I marvel every time and it opens new horizons for me. I hope it will be the same for you.
As my schoolmate once told me: he who asks is dumb perhaps for five minutes, he who doesn't ask is dumb for the entirety of his life. π
Hey SamoB25
Thank you for the encouragement, I really appreciate it. I hope that I can share my experiences with people here and grow as a player. You mentioned you just started playing again. I hope its going well, what game are you currently playing?
I hope to give you my best insight to any of your postings.

I play NL2 and it's going so-so, one day I'm up a couple of dollars the next day I'm down couple of dollars π I'm trying to become stronger in the mathematical aspect of poker, as it seems that doing so is improving the day-to-day state a bit...
It's definitely different playing today than ten years ago, even on micro limits people are more knowledgeable today and they follow the starting hands, draw playing rules, etc...
Same here returning after 5-6 years not playing and have been playing 2nl to 10nl on some challenges which went ok this year i wasn;t far from a 25nl shot. But currently on a new challenge on Betfair beginning at 2nl again to keep track of the challenge. If you need some software to get stuck in to regarding a more GTO approach then there is some good software available.

There is lots more different software out there such as pio solver and poker scientist but i think these are the more budget apps availale which ive been looking in to.Im on discord RedsYNWA and would be interested in getting in to a study group this year/next year to progress my game as well. gl to you on your return to poker.
Similar here. Advanced from NL10 to NL100 ~15 years ago and now started again.
I am puzzled over how much I forgot. I have to relearn everything.
Also, the games have changed a lot. I expected to advance from NL2-NL10 quickly... How wrong I was! Still trying to beat NL2 π
But I am making progress. I know that I will never make good money from poker, so I see it as a mind sport with the incentive to win very small bucks. I don't actually mind that it got tougher. And I like the competitiveness.
Yeah... In my case I see that it's true that you have to beat yourself first before you can beat others. I study some articles and I play well and tight and make progress. Session or two later I go back to the old ways of trying to do a showman (or better said shove-man π) poker and there go the buyins! π
Thanks for the software suggestions RedsYNWA, I, for one, will definitely check them out!
I hear you, a lot has changed over the years SamoB25 but keep studying and put in the work off the tables. Its crucial in your development as a player and help you move up in limits. Keep it up and good luck to you.
