exercise and diet effect on results?

Hi, i have noticed that when i have been periodically using creatine supplement to boost my muscle performance i have been going to upswing in poker. Now it might have been a coincidence but i have repeated it couple of times. And each time i have gone off creatine theres usually a downswing. Creatine is participating in ATP production which is used as energy source by muscle and braincells. I have also noticed that if i play poker after weight training i perform poorly. My theory is its because i have somewhat depleted creatine in my body. Maybe aerobic exercise has different effect, i havent tried it.

What do u eat and how does it affect your play? Do u exercise before or after poker session? What kind of exercise? How does it affect your play? What kind of supplements do u use?

For anyone interested in more info about creatine see: https://www.drugs.com/creatine.html

I've never used it, and my diet is pretty much restricted since I'm diabetic.
For me, exercise is mostly just walking, and I usually walk in the evenings, and poker is usually done in the morning and afternoon.

From what I had just read about creatine it makes sense that exercise would have much the same effect.

Maybe when you've used creatine, your full of energy, and make better decisions, rather than after a training session and slightly tired, (I mostly play after a few drinks, with some fruity snacks Haha)

If creatine had an effect on IQ, I think this would be well known.
I get that creatine might increase your overall confidence (because you feel strong). That could have a positive impact on your game. But I would assume this wears of after some time.
We humans are looking for patterns and coherence everywhere. What if your upswings had been while eating oranges?
Don't fool yourself. And I do not mean this offensive at all. It's just what I believe is true. Instead of looking for drugs to improve our game, we should focus on learning studying.
Keep crushing! πŸ’ͺ🏻 I wish you all the best ❀️

I just read about this.

"Creatine supplements have been shown to increase levels of creatine in the brain by nearly 10%, which may promote brain health.

It’s thought that taking these supplements enhances brain function by improving the energy supply to the brain and providing cellular protection.

In one study, people who supplemented with 8 grams of creatine per day for five days reduced mental fatigue during mathematical calculations, compared to those taking a placebo.

Similarly, a review of 6 studies found that doses of 5–20 gram of the compound may improve short-term memory and intelligence in healthy people."

I didn't know until now that taking creatine supplements can make you smart. Wow.

Didn't know that about creatine either.

Not that I'm an all-natural kind of guy, but I'm not likely to go taking "supplements" because somebody says they'll do some good.

Note the highlighted words.
6 studies -- sample size
May -- and therefore may not
thought -- this is someone's conclusion

True that Vorpal. Good thing I shared it here, I almost believe in the article to the point that I looked up a creatine supplement that gives the best benefit. Though the article may be true, the numbers in it are not very convincing. Thanks!

I looked it up as well.
I'm generally the kind of guy that experiments -- though usually not with my own body (or mind -- at least after university  )

Haha, you can try to let a friend or relative of yours (probably in a younger year bracket) who plays poker too to convince them to take creatine and see how it goes after a month or a few? I'm just literally curious. :f_drink:

I'd suggest going for the study edge. It's bigger and will get you way further.

This ^^

After reading this, article:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-creatine/art-20347591

my own personal risk/benefit analysis comes up with a hearty "I'll pass thanks!"
But then, I haven't experimented with mind altering drugs for almost 40 years...

Cheers,

Now I need to look for furthermore studies on creatine. I'm still using it so I can last longer in the gym. What you shared Vorpal is very alarming, not to mention it came from mayoclinic... :f_mad:

Yeah, I generally consider them to be authoritative.
Don't forget though, that these articles are meant to cover all the possibilities, not necessarily the probabilities.

When taking a new supplement, it is important to test if very carefully at first.

I used to collect wild mushrooms.
Once I had identified it as an edible species, I would go through a testing process:
:diamond: Β break off a piece and touch it to my lip
:diamond: Β hold a small piece in my mouth for a minute (partly for taste, and partly for assessing reaction)
:diamond: Β If both those show no ill effects, eat about half a mushroom.
:diamond: Β If no problems, we can continue to eat that species.

This is necessary in case of allergies.
I would do the same for unknown supplements -- but I generally don't do supplements as I mentioned

If they would also show what kind of symptoms the placebo group develops, it would put things into perspective.

You could basically die from drinking a glass of water. πŸ˜‰

In that study, what did the placebo group drink

Just try to walk for an half an hour a day which is good for you brain.
Do some meditation on top of that and you will book fine results.
Much easier and more healthy!

p.s. meditation will also transform your brain in a possitive way, better memory and less anxiety IF you do it for 8 weeks in a row. Good luck.

In general health/nutrition experts don't recomend taking any supplements unless deficiencies have been diagnosed. What they do reccomend is a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise.

Have you ever wondered if this is a placebo effect? Matched once and your brain connected it

Creatine is one of the most studied supplements out there, so there's plenty of info about it.
I just started to supplement it myself, since i'm vegetarian and plan to go on vegan. I'm only few days in so can't yet report any results. I'll have 20g a day for a week to raise the levels and then go on 3-5g a day.
