Well, not to get picky, but since he is in position, and since you checked, it isn't exactly a donk bet.

Can you give us some insight as to why you checked AA on a wet flop?
This hand needs protection, since both flush draws and straight draws are solidly in opponent's range.

On the turn, the third club gets there, and this should be a scare card, so now you could turn your hand into a bluff.

I hope some real hold'em experts can educate me on the slow-playing aces thing.
Personally I don't slow-play anything less that a set on a dry board, but that's me

On flop would be a Cbet all day for value and protection. Especially against a unknown on NL2.

The rest of the hand I would play the same with the thin value bet on the river.
