Hello and greetings from Albion.

No, I am not speaking of the old name for Great Britain.
As per Wikipedia, there are 39 places around the world called Albion. Most of them are in the USA. But it is not there.
It is definitely not in Germany, where I am initially from and definitely going back to.
To narrow it down, it has a lighthouse and Matthew McConaughey once jumped down the 20m cliff for the movie Serenity. (Many thought buttnekkid, but it wasn't. For those who want to go fast forward in below video, as from minute 5 they talk about it.)

Ok, it is right in the middle of Indian Ocean, Europe (France) is 200km away and the country/island I am located on is called Mauritius. More about this during the upcoming posts.

Initially I started 2006 during the Raymer hype, playing Fixed Limit and got me close to $1000 which I then lost quite fast and lost fun in playing. I didn’t play for a while, came back last August, and lost the drive in January. Main disturbing thing is the time needed/lost.
Now I came back this August to donk off my remaining money, which I successfully did on Winner. I anyway didn't like this site so much, especially the automatic log off warnings (coming mainly in the most inconvenient moment) annoyed me.
I then wanted to do the same with my remaining $26 on 888, managed to get it down all the way to $3 and now after about 3 more regular weeks again playing mainly SnG1 I found myself on $42.
Without any refill, have to say when I was back to 12 I thought, ok, let’s get it finished with 4x $3 SnG. I won the first two. (Reminds of playing the Addams Family Flipper during lunch break in my apprenticeship – if you have no time, the ball won’t fall.)

I am also up there thanks to some gift drops and freerolls on 888, recent one was a $5 blast ticket, which I used on a SnG 5 and finished 2nd. Altogether they make about just a bit short of $20.
So I will see where it brings me. Hope I can make it to $60 this month. Below a little overview I build on Libre Office. I am not using any tracker.

Like I said main obstacle could be time, which I hate to waste these days (as the saying 'Time is Money' is in my opinion not correct - lost money you can always make again, but lost time is gone forever).

Beside poker I hope I can also share some things around my other passion, hiking, which I am planning to do a lot during my soon upcoming 3 month stay back in Germany.

Wow! What a neat place to live!
Coincidentally, I live just across the river from Albion, British Columbia

Did you go there for work?

All the best,

Nice one, I looked it up and it is funny how it is translated in German Google. Translating it back it is British-Colombia, maybe thanks to a big spanish speaking community? :f_biggrin:

I got here by accident, I met my wife, she is from here, via Skype. Otherwise I would never have landed here. With all the past experience I probably would have preferred Detroit :f_biggrin: , at least it is closer to Canada
(As from 0:30 Detroit comes into game. In the German version I think they replaced Detroit with Bavaria)

That's hilarious!

When my brother moved to Germany (also due to meeting his wife) I called him Conan the Bavarian.
Only later did I find out that Bavarians are somewhat disparaged in Germany.

Not sure why

Sorry for the late answer, last week was a bit off poker and busy.

Yes the Bavarians are a bit special, they even name the in Germany leading party different in their perimetres (CSU instead of CDU, S stands for social while in latter one D stands for Democratic).
I am not sure if they shower too much in beer. At least I have to say that the Bavarian wheat beer is amazing and they have their own equator:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wei%C3%9Fwurst%C3%A4quator (everyone north of it is a prussian, or Saupreiss - would translate it as darn prussian though Sau means pig)

A short update:
So I started again on the weekend. Yesterday I made some more games, also switched from $1 to $3 SnG and it was quite nice, especially yesterday.
I also find the free money 888 is throwing at people quite nice. This morning I found another $5 blast ticket in my ticket list. My free money winnings are now at $20.51.
My graph:

So what's going on on the island? So about 2 more weeks until the island will be opened fully for vaccinated tourists, now the CDC is warning for travelling here due to high Covid risk.
https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/covid-4/coronavirus-mauritius

Having a walk or hike is definitely recommendable. I always feel sluggish and getting tired quick when working in front of the computer. Last week I was even more dead when I woke up in the morning. Anyway I went for an about 2 hour hike, found a new track along the coast keeping me for a good time away from these bloody sugar cane fields. The amazing thing was how much I was suddenly awake and pumped once I was on the move in the forest and over the coastal rocks.
I also got myself to leave the house for lunch break and have a stroll on the beach (stroll, not "strull" :D like we use to say in Germany).

I am looking so much forward to my upcoming three month in Germany as from October. Especially this time of the year sucks here. My wife is definitely watching too much of this Hallmark crap, like single mom loosing her job, finds prince charming, loves him, finds out he is the reason that she lost her job, he convinces her it was not his fault and he will give up his family heritage to start a baking shop with her and all are happy...I am so sick of it.
They should make movies from the private stories of these actors, this is funnier:

Whoever uploaded it didn't make it available in Canada

Sorry to hear this, it is directly from the Channel of "The daily show with Trevor Noah", I guess searching for "College Admission Scandal" might find some other results.

A bit about my current setup

I wrote already in another post a bit about it.

I have a Linux Mint 20 system with Windows 10 as virtual box. All the time it ran quite slow and got stuck a lot. So in January I lost patience and quit playing. Also installation of the 888 software was quite slow. Best was like 6h.

Now finally I got it sorted out, and for a VM it is running quite well. Internet is going well, screen size via guest addition iso also perfectly full screen.
Update takes only 2h now. :) The recent update nearly flashed me. It started the download, and suddenly was through. Being happy for a second, the installation cancelled and started new with the common 2hrs. I saw myself sitting playing on the phone for the future. Luckily the installation went well at the end.
The phone has one big advantage, you can take an easy dump while playing. :f_ugly: Wouldn't work with my laptop. Max 2 mins and the battery is empty. Another thing on the shopping list for Europe.

Being on an island you can be quite doomed. You have to take what is there, and to pay what they ask you for. Where else will you buy it? Speciality food wise here? Deep-fried, even slices of bread you can buy battered and dumped in oil.
I used to order my food in Europe. Everything coming in and costs more than 25€ will have 15% tax added, no matter if for business or personal use.

At least my lunch breaks this week were quite nice. 2 minutes walk to the beach, meditating, just enjoying the surrounding without excessive thinking and then digging a hole in the sand by hand. I got quite deep. So relaxing. Letting the kid out. Such fun. :f_biggrin:

A helpful channel on Youtube, if you are troubled with excessive thinking:

Bloody heck. A weekend of fiddling around. Not sure if I caught me a virus in my VM.
Friday evening Panda decided to quarantine my 888poker.exe
Well I unquarantined it excluded the folders from being scanned. It worked for more than a month without Panda whining.
Then next time I opened the poker room it looked like an egyptian papyrus roll. Numbers where split up and the residues pointing in all directions, the player logo was upside down...totally f.. upped.
I decided a bit too fast to go back to the last save point of my vm which also deleted my stats excel file. Since I wrote earlier I hate to waste time, I will not redo another one. Once I start programming I get too much into it and another week is dead. When I was a bit younger it was all fun, but not failing technical devices and software is just annoying the hell out of me.
Well, D - 9 to Germany. I wonder if I will have the plane for myself. Tourists and so the first additional planes are allowed on the island as from Oct 1st and after one week surely no one is flying back on a trip of 9000km.

For all the time I've had computers, I always kept backups of stuff.
Last August (I think), we had a power incident where the power dropped for a very short time, then came back -- but my C: drive didn't.

I discovered to my horror that my nightly C:\ Drive backup wasn't actually backing up the system partition.
I had to go back as far as March to find a working copy.

Fortunately, one of the things I have always done is to keep everything I create on a separate physical disk.
That one had a working backup

One thing on my shopping list for Germany is another external HD. At the moment I am limited to the 320GB of my deceased laptop.
I had a 2TB drive, but one time I sent it to the eternal hunting grounds by plugging the wrong power supply. Pity that the one of my computer and the HD had the same plug size. And of course they don't sell you a replacement electronic board for the HD, or you will never find one online but they offer you a 750€ repair. Luckily, apart from some photos and music nothing really important was on it.

Yikes! :f_eek: I hope you had backups?

I try to make sure to put all my stuff on not just one, but a bunch of different external hard drives for exactly that reason. I should probably look into cloud storage too.

I have cloud storage for some things, but only those specific items I have chosen.
That would be things I have chosen to share with people outside the house.

In any commercial environment, backups are taken daily -- or even hourly in some environments -- and the backup media is changed on a schedule, with at least one recent backup set stored off-site. This is why I get puzzled when I hear of ransomware attacks. If the place I worked ever got hit by one, we would be down for the length of time it took to restore the last available backup -- usually a matter of several hour, but still no big loss.

Do a search for "grandfather father son backup scheme" and you'll see what I mean by a complex rotation scheme.
This is way overkill for home use.
I use two external hard drives, and just change them out on the first Sunday of each month.

I remember the mid 90s when I worked in Munich as a replacement in the maintenance and shipping office at different computer companies. At these times it was a daily, weekly and monthly chore to swap the tapes. I guess it was similar.
Fun thing at one of these companies was the storage of non used server hard drives in our office. 2GB and sometimes 4GB...this was massive at this time.:f_biggrin:

Early morning picture at our light house: ( https://goo.gl/maps/TMFwM8KgoAx3wAAH6 )

So borders are open now since yesterday and it is unbelievable, but tourists are streaming in. Since nothing has been really organised, as it seems, majority were waiting 5 hrs in the airport until their PCR was done. Those coming with Condor were luckier, the plane landed at 5 something in the morning, being the first they were quite normally done within 1 hour.
It is really hard for me to understand why people flying 9000km for holidays in these times, I guess it similar to those putting up a tent in front of the IPhone store, when a new device comes out. I need to be the first and later I can brag about it.
Just caught Condor on its last meters on the runway this early morning:

I didn't bother playing the last days. I guess I will find some time once I am in Germany. Better cross check with 888 support or letting them know that I will be in another country, before they lock my account, once I login from Europe.

Beautiful scenery to wake up to.

I tried a few different back-up options but was horrible at keeping to a routine that I was confident in... eventually caved and went to an automatic online solution... well worth the $$$ to me to not have to worry about missing a backup.

No poker for the rest of the year.
Thanks to this amazing German law 888 software is no more functioning on my computer. I tried to install the German version, it has for the moment moved my account to Germany showing a balance of 0 Euro. Looks like I would have to completely move it here, verify again...and this because of some amateurs (who have no idea about poker) trying to prevent people from losing money. But you have to choose your monthly cash in from $50 up to $1000 on sign up. Are you feckin kiddin me?
Preventing means you would forbid poker totally or say one can only cash in €10 max per month. I actually paid in one time $10 and still playing from it very comfortable.
How will you prevent addicted people stop playing making it possible losing up to $1000 per month? Never seen something more stupid.

Well, as a voter you can also show how dumb you can be. I laughed my butt off when I saw that the past Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has just won a direct mandate for the parliament again. A guy who destroyed millions of tax payers money (last section of the linked paragraph)...

So, that's it with 888 for me. Their support is quite fast.
Using the German app it has migrated my account to Germany and deleted the old account. Option is to verify the German account with some inconvenient extra steps, or cash out and good bye. So it is cash out and goodbye 888.

Too bad
For some odd reason iPoker did the same to Canadians some years ago.
They claimed it was Canadian legislation, but their support didn't know which laws even.

Now once again it appears I could actually play on William Hill again, and I played on Optibet last year for a bit, but since I have enough actually working poker accounts it doesn't make sense.

All the best in your new poker home...

Right in that moment betonline jumped in my eyes, I am trying this now.
Hopefully it will not the same cramp for 888 to payout my money like it was last year with Unibet, after they blocked my account because I was registered from a country blacklisted in the EU for money laundering reasons...
