Cash out option in Pokerstars cash games

I have used it -- but I wouldn't use it here.

If I am all in either ahead or behind with between 40% to 60% equity, I'll use it just to cut down variance a bit.
If I'm ahead with between 60% to 80% I might use it if the stack sizes are large.
Over 90% I never use it.
Less than 40% I haven't used it yet, since you're not getting much back, and you miss out on any chance to suck out

Just like running it twice I have this turned off so I never use it. I don't want to give up value when I'm ahead and when I'm behind well there's just not much to gain. In the long term it probably doesn't make much of a difference so it comes down to personal preference I believe.

If you are bankrolled for the games you play you should never pay site to reduce variance. It makes a hude dent in your profit to use that on a reg basis. If you are scared money then just rit if possible.

I do use the cashout option but only rarely.
The time I use this is when the pot is very large and I'm ahead but between 70 and 80 percent.

But in general, yeah it seems like a cash grab

Cash-out is +EV for gamesite, they have extra "rake" for them.
So than it is -EV for players in long term.

Quite correct.
I think of it like a hedge fund investment.
You won't make as much as if you invested directly, the hedge fund managers take a bundle of the profits for themselves, but you lose less (if you lose)

You loose less, if you go all-in and your cards are not so strong or you have bad luck and you will pay some money to site for it.
But on otherside you win less although your cards are good for all-in and you will pay to site for it too.

Still some extra moeny goes from players to pokersite.
