that guy was playing almost every round, most of the times limping
in that spot i was BB and he was SB (both full stack).
everybody folds, he open with 3bb, and i call with:6s:6♣:
flop comes 6♦:7♦:8♥:
pot is 6bb
sb bet 4bb and i call
pot is 14bb
turn comes 5♣: sb bet 12 bb

If we assume we have to improve to win pot then we need implied odds. We have around 20% odds to improve so with 12bb to call we get 12/0.2 which is same as 12*5= 60. If we call pot will be 38bb so we need 22bb or more from villain when we improve. To this required implied value we don't count our own investment on river.
There is likely some chance that villain is bluffing and gives up river and our set is good in showdown. Good thing is that our boat outs are very likely alive as villain using this sizing is unlikely to hold two pair or set.
PS: Of course versus maniac we might also have solid argument to hero call e.g most rivers not completing flush if we think he bluffs enough.
I would consider to raise the flop for value and protection. There are a lot of bad turn cards for you. As played I would call the turn and her-evaluate the river. You get decent odds to improve and you could have the best hand.

I think the turn is close because if I’m behind to straight Im thinking about the outs to a boat or quads which gives us 10 outs, we need 4:1 but are getting just better than 2:1, if we assume villain will be betting big on river we might be getting about the right implied odds to call, if we include stuff like A8s or two pair that we are beating calling seems even better for me
I'd raise flop - vs maniac player I want to get in fast as there are lots of turn/river card that I don't want to see and play call IP vs his bets.

Vs 40% hands what he could open with, you have approx 70%. Vs 88+, AK, AQ, he could continue you have 70%+ too.
He is betting 12bb to pot 14bb, you need 30%
If he limping all the time and now bet I expect from him some Hi cards. So call. He beats you with 99 or A9s, I dont expect 44.
Probably just want to go ahead and raise on the flop and play it fast given the board texture and villain player type.As played id call turn decide river.
Flop: I think vs a weak/bad player you should always fastplay by raising all sets and many straights as well.
Turn: You clearly need to call Turn. Raising is overplay, you have plenty of implied odds vs straights (when you pair to quads or a full house), and you do beat some flush draws and random bluffs.
My plan would typically be to call Turn fold RIver - pretty suicidal for people to double barrel this turn as a bluff when you're calling 2p/set/straights here and you still have plenty of straights left on the River so it's not exactly a good bluffing spot for him
Regarding labelling him as a maniac - there's a difference between an aggro maniac (high VPIP and PFR + high postflop aggression) vs a passive whale (high VPIP and low PFR, low postflop aggression)
Vs the former I will consider calling down with a set even, vs the latter you clearly need to fold River unimproved
