Hi! I have been playing holdem for years but recently have been experimenting with some other game types to mix it up ![]()
I started off enjoying NL 5CD on pokerstars. After being up 8 buy ins I soon went on a 14 buy downswing ![]()
Except the occasional $0.10/$0.20 table there seem to be no fixed limit 5CD cash games running and pokerstars of course removed fixed limit for their tournaments. Their reasoning I guess would be to attract the modern audience who is familiar to NL and PL and also allowing bounty tournaments. These tournaments get a reasonable turn out of players so the game still has keen followers ♦
Whilst I believe fixed limit to be the best version of the game I personally believe that the future of 5CD is NL and PL.
With this in mind there is very little modern content on the NL and PL game. I've been scouring the web
trying to acquire all the information I can on 5CD and seen some mind blowing stuff from the like of bigpooch 8-oand yours truly VorpalF2F (who called my massive 18BB bluff recently with just QQxxx :f_frown:)
What considerations need to be taken into account for NL? Playing on the cash tables at $0.10/$0.25 and seen some crazy things:f_o:
With no cap to betting how do the value of some hands change such as straight and flush draws?
Is overbetting (as shown now in holdem a powerful tool) now essential to extract max value? How do we balance with bluffs when overbetting pot?
What size should we open? In fixed limit you were obviously restricted in opening sizes but now you can go 2.25-4BB etc. I usually go with 3BB but have been seeing experienced players like VorpalF2F betting 3.4BB, is that optimal?
Is there any software which gives a good HUD I could use?
Could we use this thread for a strict 5CD NL and PL discussion?
Sorry for the ramble, see you at the tables
