You need really sick reads to fold the river I think. I would even consider stacking of with jack high flush.

According to Dara O'Kerarney, and others , if they raise big on the river they always have it.

I'm going to be tank folding here but I would bet 1/3 pot on the flop, (I opened from UTG so I almost have to rep the A) and 1/2 pot on turn, (still rep the A but now I have the FD and GS str8 draw as backup) then check behind on the river because by then I would have convinced myself that he had at least an A and probably a FD too so could have me beat anyway. Sometimes I'll miss some value from Ax and smaller flushes, and sometimes I'll get a fold, but with only a J high flush I would hate to see the raise.

What hands is he raising here that we beat? Maybe A9, A8, 810, 88? Maybe bluffing 5% of the time?

Definitely betting the str8 flushes, bet/calling the K and probably bet tanking the Q and maybe hating having bet and then calling.

As I said I would bet the flop and if he calls there and on the T he probably has an A, this would make me more likely to check behind on the R with the J.

As played it's difficult to put him on the Ah but with such a big raise on the R I would fold (I've said in my blog that I fold too much). I have V rarely called such a big raise on the R without the nuts and won. It's always either the nuts or a bluff and I don't think many players bluff enough here.

I could well be wrong and would be happy to be shown something to prove me wrong, I am just going on what I have seen at NL2, NL5 and NL10 in the past 10 or more years of playing (still not an expert and still learning :f_cry:).

On turn I would go for overbet. You should be only one with uncapped range there. Then on river I would go a bit larger as you should not valuebet there worse than straight. After that huge raise I just fold. Biggest problem is that our opponent is calling preflop from BB. He can have almost every combination of better flushes. Also his sizing is huge and board blocks mostly weaker flushes.

Overbetting turn is interesting when villain is the better:f_wink:
