Open BU 2♣:3♦:J♦:J♣: BB (65bb)
Flop Q♣:5♣:9♥:
BB leads 50%, BU calls
T♦:
BB bets 33%, BU min raises, BB calls
7♣: SPR (1)
BB checks, BU?
I think pre and flop are standard. OTT I raise small because BB is short stack, doesn't make sense to me to raise bigger. If I raise bigger and he calls and SPR would be so low that I would have little to now FE left. So I opt for smaller size to make SPR 1 OTR. I think OTR I have clear shove. I unblock his bluff catchers, also he would have donk bet his flushes. Which begs the question would you call if he donk shoves oop?

So you would make this minraise on turn with made hands as well?

No, but I very rarely do this small raise thing. So I'm don't think I will get exploited. Not at micro-stakes at least.

In general when people use sizing like this on turn they have some form of weak to mediocre hand. E.g. its rarely like set+nfd or straight. So I dont mind raising turn but when we go minraise we kind of dont create real pressure on that capped range. Also if villain is capable of some hand reading it might kind of smell to him.

So I would definitely want to raise bigger if raising (call is still better than folding versus this sizing btw) to create lot more fe on turn and also make it look like actually having straight. Anyway according to my calculation pot on turn is 15bb with 59bb behind. If he bets 5bb on turn pot raise would be to 30bb so if he bet-calls it would be 75bb with 29bb behind. So I think we still do have some fe for river shove. Anyway hh is perhaps bit accurate as I dont get SPR 1 with minraise on turn. But point is even if we want to use less than pot size raise on turn I would prefer to make it bit more... My brains dont find the correct word now... Well "comparable" between turn raise and river shove. But imo pot raise would likely still make most sense.

As played its not clear shove necessarily on river because villain range is weighted toward some non nut straight, sets, two pair and fd. Good side in small sizing on turn is now that we have kept all weaker fd in the pot. He will also have like all the two pair or sets he bets on turn. But that non nut straight or weaker is usually not calling so in practise we aim to get value from weaker flushes for most part. I would not remove chance of getting value from weaker than flush but its rare.

When he doesnt lead river I would tend to somewhat remove higher flushes in his range but some are possible. Imo we still have value shove on river with third nuts but that is probably bottom of my value range. I would be still way more happy to value shove compared to calling lead shove as these kind of spots basically require villain to turn made hands into bluff. Also weaker flush is usually not leading. Though I suppose its lot easier for opponent to have some blocker hands with not so strong made hand versus turn minraise.

To value or not value

To answer this you gotta weigh the potential calling hands against the stuff that has you beat.^^ We need more hands that are worse than our actual value-hand, so more often than not in PLO we have less value. Well, let´s go through the hand.

Preflop: Standard openraise, against a 3bet we can still flat-call because of our double-suit.

Otf: Villain should not lead a lot cause of the mid-low wet structure. With the J-high flushdraw we have a clear call, with a low one it´d be marginal.

Ott: His turn sizing looks weakish and does not make a lot of sense theorywise unless he has a balanced 2sizings strategy (unlikely). So you gotta think when bluffing (this hand is a good bluffing candidate against a normal sized barrel with the blockers+backup) you want to think what you would do with your straight here? Exactly. So you have to raise it up big to actually generate credible FE. Calling is an option here theoretically but I like raising more.

Otr: Normally we´d check-back here, against a passive player a small-sized thin value bet is teh default way to go imo but with his line he proved himself being somewhat out of line so I´d take the safe SDV. You also block straights which is in his potential calling range. Generally from what I have seen is, that in BU vs BB SRP despite ranges being loose we are not going too crazy with medium-strength hands.

According to my advise he´d need to play basically his entire flushdraw range over 3 streets, so he must have loose tendencies to get sufficient value after the turn raise, against unknown as a default a J-high flush is borderline so I would not mind a value bet after having the smallish turn bet called, imo we should not pot (bet it big) it though. As played with the minraise I think check-back is fine.

I would say that when he leads flop he has something, and when he barrels small ott he has something. What ever that "something" is, you have 0 FE with minraise. I think it's clear call ott, as there is quite high chance that this kind of player would call your shove with a set. 2p+draw or even naked 2p.

On the river it's close. If he has A/K high flushes in his check range, in order to valuebet he would need to call with a set/2p sometimes. Or he would lead flop and turn with low flushdraws (8high or lower). If betting, I would pot it for sure.
