Dealt to Hero: 8♣ A♦ J♦ 9♠

UTG Folds, HERO Raises To $1.75, CO Folds, BTN Raises To $6, SB Calls $5.75, BB Folds, HERO Calls $4.25

Hero SPR on Flop: [0.18 effective]
Flop ($18.50): 9♥ 8♠ 6♦
SB Checks, HERO Checks, BTN Bets $3.36 (allin), SB Raises To $10.72 (Rem. Stack: $122.41), HERO ?

This is "the most competent guy". (I will call him like that so you know who I am talking about). So I know him well enough to know he is probably iso-raising the flop. His preflop ranges are so wide, it is actually somewhat hard for him to have the straight and he probably would not raise a set. The problem is, if I call the flop, continuation looks quite iffy cause we were so deep. Should I just fold the flop?

Spoiler

HERO Calls $10.72 (Rem. Stack: $181.89)

Turn ($43.30): 9♥ 8♠ 6♦ 3♥
SB Bets $31 (Rem. Stack: $91.41), HERO ? ... or go with my read and continue the calldown? Problem is we'd have only 2 outs if we are wrong. 2-barrel frequency in this very unique spot is also hard to assess.

Spoiler

HERO Folds

River ($74.30): 9♥ 8♠ 6♦ 3♥ 5♣

BTN shows: K♦ A♥ Q♣ 4♥
SB shows: T♥ Q♦ T♠ 8♦

SB wins: $41.99

He had blockers + gs only indeed. This keeps me wondering if there could have been a better play than folding flop (or turn which I like even less).

Seems fine though this would be bottom of top two pair category to continue for me (folding without bdfd). Would fold this if BU was deeper and not closing action. SB iso raise is just too small compared to pot to fold flop imo.

On turn its easy fold with dry top two. We had borderline hand on flop that did not turn any more equity. We also have no straight blocker making this one of worst hands in our range to continue. If we continue with this weak hands we either end up folding lot versus aggression on river or end up making very wide hero calls.

I assume you wont have that many 3bets on flop? If that is the case then just think of your turn range and where this specific hand is in that. You should have straights, sets, two pair with support and combo draws.

Turn is pretty much a blank tough. I think if he is having bluffs(+weak SDV) like this one, it is unlikely he has improved (or will) and so should not we stick to our plan once we call flop? I am not sure about his incentives to keep bluffing with one player being already all-in... but that could be Holdem thinking. In PLO continuation is more iffy when it comes to bare handstrength categories so my thinking could be flawed, I have done better with your approach but I am open to try different things.

I have no stats for postflop 3bet spcifically but his X/R > 11 was pretty healthy too and his Aggression is well balanced over multiple streets. I have seen him doing it against me specifically with blockers in 3BP's, he seems to be somewhat well balanced too (so that's why "the most competent player"^^) forcing me into tough big pot spots repeatedly. Ofc I could also just stick to straightforward play ...

Entering some meta-thoughts, if he calls me down for 200bb with top/mid-2pair on a (low) straight board, and he is mirror thinking (expecting the same from me), he'd is capable to bluff multiple streets aswell?

Flop raise is what 40% pot? That is way too small to consider folding, especially since you both are deep and you got position on him. I would continue even without bd equity. Unless you know this player very well I think folding here is overfolding imo.

How is this guy competent if you don't mind me asking  Bluffing OOP when short stack is already all in vs a deep stack seems worse than my punts. Also that Pre-call is suspect to say the least. OTT you have 4 outs not 2?.

Small raise OTF pot OTT doesn't make sense too me but still fold considering the shortstacker is all in and considering the side pot is, what, 13$. Ghaleon makes some really good points about the turn.

yes you got good odds but he does not need to raise that big cause either he has something (strong made hand or wrap) or has a bluff (pair+sv). problem is how to plan a continuation with a hand like mine. Ghaleon is probably right about folding turn since we have other hands that would be strong enough to continue that can call flop aswell
