Hi,

My name is Harry, and I am a student from the UK (London), hence my PokerStars nickname - I See London. (Also the song Sam's Town by The Killers has the lyric; 'I see London / I see Sam's Town.')

I'm starting this blog after an interesting preliminary system that I used to have. Before I would make mini deposits and try to grind up $40-80 in an evening and then withdraw. However, now I want to build up a bankroll. I started with $400 at PokerStars, but managed to donk off a bit. So we really begin the quest at $275, playing 0.05/0.10$NLHE SH.

My format will be:
Date:
Session(s) length:
Net profit/loss:
No. of hands:
Significant hands?
Anything else?

I will complete my first entry at the end of today.

Thanks

Hi Harry,

Nice to see another UK member starting up a blog :) I wish you the best of luck on your poker journey and hope you keep us updated!

Also if you post hands using a hand converter it makes it a lot easier to read :)

Best regards,

London is a big place. Whereabouts in London are you?

I'm from North London (Camden area).

Date: 19 June 09
Session(s) length: 53 mins
Net profit/loss: -$10.90
No. of hands: 224
Significant hands? Got a nice beating here...

$0.05/$0.1 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Known players:
MP2 = ($3.95)
MP3 = ($5.75)
CO(Hero) = ($10.00)
BU = ($2.00)
SB = ($7.45)
BB = ($10.55)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 2, T.
Hero posts deadblind, MP2 calls $0.10, MP3 calls $0.10, Hero checks, BU folds, SB calls $0.05, BB checks.

Flop: ($0.50) T, 2, 9 (5 players)
SB checks, BB bets $0.30, MP2 calls $0.30, MP3 calls $0.30, Hero raises to $1.3, SB folds, BB folds, MP2 calls $1.00, MP3 folds.

Turn: ($3.70) Q (2 players)
MP2 checks, Hero bets $8.60(All-In), MP2 calls $2.55.

River: ($14.85) K (2 players)

Final Pot: $14.85.
Results follow:

Hero shows two pairs, tens and twos (2 T)
MP2 shows a straight, ace high (A J)

MP2 wins with a straight, ace high (A J).

Anything else? Not really - didn't play great, plus see above to explain some of the loss.

wooo - had a decentish ($11) cash session earlier for an hour - and then found time to play 4 MTTs today. 18-man x3 (2x $6.50, 1x $3.40), 45-man x 1 ($3.40)
Cashed in 2 18-man'ers and 1 45-man (2x 2nd and a 3rd respectively). This earned me $68. Plus the small cash session means Im back over my pre-downswing BR of $400. I have $406 as of now and it never felt better to break even. I love poker!

Since it will be mere days till I am back on a downswing and am crying in fetal position, Im going to enjoy this heater whilst its warm!

Hey nice blog, I will follow with intrest as im in a similar situation as point, just starting to take poker "semi -serious" after a few months of donking around, bankroll is arround $270 and also playing NL10 SH so will be nice to compare my progress to yours.

Kepp updating

thanks for the interest.

I just lost 2 MTT buy ins (down to $400) and then played a cash session. It started well, but I started to lose concentration (I could feel it), although I did make a tough call with the best hand (against a TAG 4-better) where I called with QQ against AKos for my stack. Oh wells.

BR = $382 (done for the day)

I did make a tough call with the best hand (against a TAG 4-better) where I called with QQ against AKos for my stack. Oh wells

First of all; I dont want to bitch around (read: DONT)
second; I wasnt there so im making a more general point.
(If u thought the player could have had worse then AQ, its ofc. fine)

The general point;
If u think ur going for a 50/50 in a tournament/SNG. (52%/48% etc.)
Dont handle this like u would in a cashgame, where 52% of the time is profit. Because 50%-50%'s in SNG's are -$ev. This has several reasons.
the most important one for this is; (in a SNG) Cash lost is worth more then Cash won. so u would need to win more then just 50% for +$ev.

As further explaination and as help in the nearby future; try using a
"ICM-Calculator". It will help u during SNG's. specially at the last stages.

Further on;
I wish you (and others at this site) the best of luck at the tables!

thanks for that bilbo - but actually the QQ hand was from a cash game - i just didn't clarify properly.

thanks for the advice anyway - seeing as i would have done the same in a tourney.

cheers.

weird day (so far).
made $22 at cash table. then lost $35 playing tournies.

then got back to 385.

So my BR is 385 right now.

No more poker for the day!

EDIT: I lied! I played a few tourneys - now BR = 401. WOOOOT (back over 400)

Targets:

a) achievements:
1) Maintain a 6bb+/100 winrate for my first 10k hands on NL10 SH
2) Get roll up to $550 to start NL25 SH
3) Place in a MTT for over $100 on Stars

b) personal:
1) Read and study 3 new poker strategy books (maybe 2 Harringtons and a Slansky)
2) Stop breaking things/punching things/relying on cigarettes to deal with tilts and swings
3) Devote at least a few hours/week to HH and maintain involvement on this forum

played an MTT ($11 Deepstack thing on Stars).

Didnt realise how FREAKIN long the tourney is.

I busted out 33/936 after like 8.5 hrs or play.

for $36!!!!! ARGH
i got bottom two cracked by an overpair (75/25 ftw!)

feel like shit
tired

OK - just played a session of almost 50 mins. made 2 BIs in 5 mins and then spent the rest fluctuating around the same level.
250 hands - $21 profit.

BR = $458

That means im up over $180 since i started this blog a week ago.

Score!

update:
donked off $18 in tourneys
then made a bit back

now BR=453

Most disgusting morning session.

Started with a one table shot at NL25 FR
First hand I got aces cracked by pocket fucking nines

Then proceeded a stream of bad beats on NL10 SH.

Hero shows a flush, king high (K:s J:s)

The only reason i didnt get too excited is that Id seen that guy slowplay hands before, so I figured the paired board may have given him a house.

This all completely has fucked the good work I have done.

This is ridiculous seeing as the session lasted about 30 mins and all these different things happened.

I currently want to kill someone.

Fuck you all!
Xxx xox love harry

So i experienced a downswing (down 10 BIs), but then I unlocked a bonus.

BR = 400 again

Very nice progress!! You multiplied your bankroll by such a number that I don't even know what the correct word for that is - probably octadrupled? And all this in just two weeks, too.

I hope you will beat this downswing soon!

woot
after some grinding on some SnGs i have got my BR up to 455 today.
Had a decent session where hands held up!!!
So I just incr my BR by about 14%, so im pretty stoked

And im playing well ($12 6-max, $6 9-max, $6 18man MTT)

Ended with a shot at NL25 SH

made about $11

BR = 467

due to some extreme sickness (i.e. suckouts) i am downto $400 again
or slightly over

so im gonna SSS a bit to mix it up to keep the motivation there

im gonna do NL50 SSS

fingers crossed...

You shouldn't move up to NL 25 with only 22 bins btw especially if you play shorthanded. You also shouldn't play 11$ MTT's, roll > 100x tournament buy-in is good rule of thumb.

Oh well, good luck and have fun.
