I was stuck between bet/fold and c/c. I assumed he was passive so I wanted to play c/c two streets and induce bluffs. With his narrow 3bet range, I estimate him to have JJ+/AK, with his range weighted towards JJ and QQ (4 combinations of AK, 12 combinations of JJ and QQ)

So the first street went check/call, and he bet the turn which sort of meets my expectations (I played like I was giving up).

I decided to check the river, hoping for a free showdown. Strangely enough, he shoved on me. I already removed aces from his range (unless he was slowplaying, which is what passive people do, but there is a flush draw and I think he would be more likely to bet). I'm not afraid of the flush since its impossible for AKs to hit the club flush

His line didn't really make any sense - QQ and JJ would probably take the free showdown (don't think he can bluff with a made hand), I already eliminated AK and AA from his range. What is the right move? or should i bet/fold on the flop (I would have done so against a more aggressive player who is likely to attack me after sensing weakness)

C/rAI turn.

You're right, his line doesn't make any sense, but if you are going to call the river even if the FD gets there, there's no point in not checkraising the turn.

If he's on a bluff IMO he won't continue since your hand looks very much like Ax or TT+ which you will not fold.

At the same time you don't know if he's turning something like 99 into a bluff, so by checkraising the turn you're safe.

I think the fact that he called a 4bet instead of shoving showed that he is a fishy player, since calling 4bets makes it very hard to play, so I decided to go for an induce line. I also feel that c/shove turn would only get me called by AX

I don't get this part, after all I think that the flush completing would give him a chance to try and rep the flush but I'm not afraid of it anyway since I think he probably has a pocket pair or AK/AQ and the ace of clubs is out already

My point is that a 3rd :club: is the only card you don't really like to see since it's completing the only kind of your opponents drawing hands with more than 4 outs.

And as i said before your opponent has to assume you have something after 4betting preflop and check/calling the turn.
So if he has nothing i think he is more likely to think of you having Ax or a flush that to think you have some kind of garbage that you would just fold now that he is representing the flush.

So i think he will not be bluffing at the river because he thinks that your range is very strong.
And because he is not bluffing IMO a check/raise on the turn is better than a c/c because it saves you from facing a riverbet having no clue what it might be (as it happened) and you may get calls from FDs or even worse PPs whereas they might just get checked back at the river.

maybe I'm being results oriented but this guy showed up with 97s (no flush) so i suppose if I knew he was some spewy guy then my line is right?

I think it is somewhat results oriented.
The reason for my thinking is based on the stats, if the opponent had 47/32 with 3.8AF i'd say c/c turn, c/c river is fine.

But this one had 21/17 with .9AF.
40 hands is really no samplesize, but if you're going to ignore the stats anyway i'd turn off the HUD :P
