You should try to bluff here. Simply check/fold and wait for a better hand. He will call you down too often with a better hand so you are just wasting your money. 
As he checked behind you can bet/fold the turn. He should fold a lot unimproved A-high hands as the 7 
has to be pretty scary to him. If he calls you however you should give up on the river and not invest any more money into this small pot.
