In addition to tokyoaces I also have 3 words for you -

I can understand that you want to get the most from your set (we all get greedy in these circumstances at times) but by not C-betting the flop you have lost the initiative and allowed your opponent to get enough of the turn that he is going nowhere. After your raise from the blinds any bet on the flop ($2.50 +) and he folds as he missed his set and you are representing the A or any other pair that is beating him.

Even if he makes the mistake of calling on the flop there is a good chance of getting it all in on the turn when you are ahead due to the increased size of the pot.

In short he only won the hand because you let him. He still had to get lucky and hit his one outer but he should not have seen the turn IMHO.

I too have made this mistake (not once, not twice but loads of times) and probably will again. This is a good example of a hand to learn from and an ideal lesson for all of us in how slowplaying a set can get you in trouble.

I totally agree with Fagin - You def. should bet the flop.

Always cbet flop TP+ obv. rest is unlucky...

i believe a variation of play by checking is fine but.............
in this situation, i would have liked to (value)bet the pot to add value as i wouldn't really expect mp to have the ace or be on any draws on an ace high dry board, hence he's most likely is going to check behind. and BB not being the preflop aggressor/not having absolute position may just check behind in hope for mp to fire or just hope to draw a free card.

either ways, i doubt BB will give up his hand on the turn and if turn was played, this beat would have not been avoidable.

hitting his 1 outer then would have just been a bad beat.

Great discussion on the hand so far... Kruppe can you explain why this doesn't make sense to you? Fagin's reasoning sounds pretty logical to me, but I'm always looking for other perspectives.

My thoughts... I would have c-bet the flop (~60% of pot) because I was the pre-flop aggressor and my opponents are expecting me to. If they fold OK, if they call or play-back at me GREAT! On the turn, I'd continue the aggression and if I wasn't all-in, I would be by the river for sure. (I also think it's fine as played though.)

That's exactly what we can do.

I think betting flop is better than checking, we will get paid if he hit board, if he didn`t, well we can`t check to the river, hoping to get some aggression. People call c-bets with Ax, faced cards, any PP, don`t see reason to check here.

if you bet flop, worst you can hope to get called by is Ax.
Ax will bet flop anyway, and air can also bet flop as a bluff.
if you check flop you also give opponents a chance to hit a hand on the turn that you can get value from (like 22).
