Was it the correct play or should I have reacted differently to the ace?
And if he had raised me after my bet, then I should've called down?

good. i think it´s also possible to check behind the turn and call any river.
if he check/raises the turn you can think about a fold

I like it. If he isn't too aggressive you can fold to a check/raise on the turn or river.

is it a good spot to check behind the turn and call any river ? i nearly never play this line myself.

I thought about is as well but you have two valuebets against a lower pocketpair which won't check/raise that often on the turn.
