I'm just about to receive my $50 starting capital cash. I've been studying for some weeks and taking poker very seriously.
So... I see some of you are advanced players and I think many have started with something around $50. How long did you take to win your first $1,000? I'd appreciate to read about your ups and downs over this period too.

took me about a month to lose my first 1k, then it took 1 day to win 2k, but i lost most of it over the next couple of days...
Damn it, man. Sorry to hear that. What happened? What advice could you give to me in order to avoid such a situation? Thanks for the reply! ♠_biggrin:
Slooow... Around 13 months for the first $500, but on the 14th month I earned +$500. Took me around 2000 sng's (nanostakes).
Ps. 1821 tourneys to be exact
8 months, made some stupid decisions in the early phase.
from $30 to $1000 in 6 months
Playing since 6 months poker at all.
Before a year i vanished my starting capital for few days. 
At November started with 10$ free from a site.
Since February i deposited some money at PokerHeaven,up to now i got 1000 euros.

I'm playing only NL10 up to now !.
shipped 1,7k in a 6$ tournament on FTP, 7 months after i started 
- had a 400$ bankroll at that time 
- won 600 dollars the week after in the same tournament LoL - started from 50$ also
i started with $50 on pokerstars
it took me 6 months to hit $1k
i was playing SNG's and spending winnings on mtt's
first 3 months i was a megafish
then i got 4/9900 in $1 for $450...busted with AA vs K7 all in preflop with good stack
next month i made another final table in $4 PLO for $450
and the next month again in $3 in PLO for $350
stopped playing SNG's and next month got final table in $9 tourney for $850
next month i won my first mtt - won $11 6max turbo for 2k 
here i am now ♦
advice: play well..improve..try get your money in good..don't tilt too much
next month i won't get a final table cuz i self-excluded myself for a month so i'll study for exams ♦
If u will mean it seriously with poker i think those 4-5 months that ppl mentioned is reasonable.
Took me about 2,5 months for my first k, then 2 weeks for the next one, an MTT hit for the third one and shortly after that I dropped 1k in a day taking shots.
Great... so a serious player can make it reasonably in about 3 to 5 months, right? That's my conclusion from what I see.
Do you know how much $1,000 are worth here in Brazil? Our minimum wage is about $300. So 1K equals to 3,3 minimum wages. Multiply the minimum wage of your country by 3.3 and you'll get what I mean!

took me about 12 months after signing up to make first 1k but depends how much and how hard you play.
just cashed out all but $5 so i'll see how long it takes to make the 1k this time.
if you play as a fulltime occupation (which i did when i started taking it serious), it probably won't take more than a month if ur starting with 50$. depending a lot of your current skill level and ability to learn and cope with variance. when i first started playing for real it was 16$ sngs with a 600$ bankroll and i made it to 1600$ withint a few weeks and finished my first month at about 4000$

Haha bradomurder! Sorry, but I mean mininum is $300 a MONTH!!! Can you believe that??? So it's about $75 a week.
A recently graduated engineer will make $1000 a month. An office assistant will make some $400 a month, and so it goes. Terrible!

You mean you made 1K in a month playing full-time? Would it be like 6 hours a day?
