Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $2(BB) Replayer
SB ($314)
Hero ($240)
UTG ($327)
CO ($211)
BTN ($200)

Dealt to Hero 5♦ 5♠

fold, CO raises to $7, fold, fold, Hero calls $5

FLOP ($15) 4♠ 9♣ 5♥

Hero checks, CO bets $11, Hero calls $11

TURN ($37) 4♠ 9♣ 5♥ 7♠

Hero checks, CO bets $28, Hero raises to $75, CO calls $47

RIVER ($187) 4♠ 9♣ 5♥ 7♠ 3♣

Hero checks, CO bets $118 (AI), Hero calls $118

this hand was played without stats. Villain did not seem to be especially loose. (Now known to be an excellent reg). I'm not sure calling preflop is best out of position. As played, is there any thing else we can do? After villain called my check raise I got slightly nervous, hence my check-call on the river.
thanks

I fold preflop, against an unknown you can't move and it's hard to play your hand for setvalue because you usually don't have great implied odds.

As played on the flop I would probably checkraise.
By check/calling you kinda turn your hand into a bluffcatcher and once you checkraise the turn the opponent might even be able to fold TT+ since your line is so strong.
By checkraising small on the flop it could look to him like you're trying to bluff on a board where he can't have much and additionally he will usually not be able to fold 9x or TT+.

As played on the river I'd either shove or c/f, leaning heavily towards shoving. You played your hand for value by check/raising the turn, but by checking the river you turn it into a bluffcatcher again - but he is never bluffing (unless he is spazzing out for no reason, but that will very rarely be the case) and almost never betting worse hands for value.
So once you check and he bets imo you're looking at a straight almost always

He had turned trips with pocket 7s in this case but I agree -- seems like negative freeroll-- he's never betting with the worst hand on the River but might possibly call with some.

Thanks
