Hey

I went in to the conrad treasury casino on friday night to find they have changed the rake, which was 10% capped at $10 for 200NL, to a $1/hand participation fee for everyone but no rake.

Has anyone played with a structure like this? would you?

I left without playing a hand.

I've never played with a rake structure like that you described and never would. What would be the point?

If it was $1 per orbit on NL200 then perhaps but per hand???

I think you did the best thing by voting with your feet here.

$1 hand participation fee when the blinds are $1/$2?? That's fucking ridiculous. Thanks for the warning, I won't waste my time going in to the casino now :P

LOL that is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard, I'm glad you walked out, hopefully you'll find a new venue soon.

well jupiters down at the gold coast has normal rake i think, apparently the players are even worse than the treasury too. I might have to make the trip down and stay one weekend soon.

for reference.. the casinos in vegas (which probably have he best rake in the world) charge 10%, but capped at $4 for $1/$2 NL Hold'em. Some also charge an extra buck for the jackpot.

But aren't you tipping the dealer whenever you win a pot? *shudders*

I played at Lasseters casino the other weekend in alice springs... the players are SO bad but buyin is capped between 20-40bb ($100-$200 dollars) which is completely retarded in my opinion. Table there would have been soooo +EV if I could have actually got some good hands......

Yeah but the rake is so low that you can handle it. Plus, the players are tremendously bad. You can easily run at 400bb/100 ;)

But back at topic: Yes, Australian casino's are horrible with their rake. I think the only time you could consider it beatable would be on weekends with all the drunks.

Maybe, 50bb/100 is a stretch though even with the worst players. Maybe it would be beatable if stacks were really deep like they get late into the night, but apparently with the $1/hand thing the stacks never get that deep anyway, they are taking about $250/hour from the table

Yeah live poker is really incredible with it's rake.
I doubt it's grind-able.
