So, today could have gone better, but also could have gone worse

Hands Played Today: 1096

So, I played 3 sessions today of a few hundred hands each, the first 2 sessions went well, so i'm going to post a small review of each session and maybe a hand.

First Session - After a bit of bad play at the beginning due to me warming into it and such (♦ Should probably try and sort that out) there were a few ups and downs, eventually I finished the session on +$0.93.

Second Session - This session started off mad, with me picking up premium hands early on. Unfortunately I didn't get much action off this but later on in the session I got some decent hands, a few good reads on fish and ended the session on +$5.07

Third Session - This is where it all went tits up i'm afraid, I doubled up on one table early on and lost one on another table. Then I started identifying the fish with VPIP40% and PFR 15% etc. So I tried to exploit them, I saw a few hands they played and showed down bottom pair after an all in and such. But it seemed every hand I got and hit I then got outdrawn ♠_cry: So I ended this session -$4.64

So, here's one hand that I lost on, I was quite aware this guy was a fish as he had a 70% VPIP over 20 hands I believe, and even with a small sample it's obvious he's a fish.

Obviously with his fishiness I should've included A4 in his range, I was thinking he had anything from A7-AQ, maybe something like 78s, 89s, 8Ts or maybe 88. So the only hands I put him on that were beating me was 88 and A8, I don't know why I excluded A4. But even so, would this be a call, thinking there are only 3 hands in his range that are beating me. Bearing in mind A5-AQ lose, as do 78, 89, 8T. I'm not sure if calling would be considered correct here?

Another one i'm not too sure about, first of call: The preflop call. Should I have 3bet here or is the call correct? I'm pretty sure the flop coldcall is technically incorrect, but looking at his stats I saw he had conti-bet on the flop 100% of the time (16/16 times), and also conti-bet the Turn 100% of the time, so I was pretty sure if I flat called I could get another bet out of him.

Nice of you to ask, or not, but anyway. Today has been a good day. Again I played 3 sessions of 6 tables - Totalling at 1176 hands, with an overall profit of $4.71. Good stuff!

I've also read a few Silver Articles involving Advanced O/R, and different reasons to bet - Just to remind myself ya'know I've also posted a few hands from my sessions today in the Evaluations forum and scouted around the forum to try and get my thoughts running. I've also downloaded Rounders today, which i've heard is very good I might continue reading Ace On The River tonight, before getting up to work tomorrow

A Bad Day in Life

Okay, so since this is my blog I promised to include a bit of real life stuff, and this is really not something I was hoping to include when I started this blog. A bit of backstory first, 10 years ago me and my Parents and Brothers moved into the countryside to start up a riding school business, a longstanding dream of my Mum. And today, my Mum's horse (That she has had for 21 years, and loved dearly) had to be put down. It was a sickening day for the whole family really It resulted from a kick from another horse that broke my Mum's horse's leg. I saw the whole thing as well, which was dreadful I saw the kick, I heard the bone crack, then I saw the horse limping away in agony, unable to put one of her legs down, then as I was walking towards her I saw the bottom of her leg in a weird contortion, as if it was just hanging there, that's when we all knew :/. The vet came shortly after and confirmed our fears, broken leg, unable to recover. I was there with my Mum as the vet injected the Horse, my Mum was in tears and couldn't watch. As the drugs started to hit her it got worse, she seemed confused and frightened as well as being in agony, she was trying to get away from the vet holding onto her but couldn't move properly. Being a fond lover of animals I found it deeply upsetting and sickening to see an animal i've known my whole life in such a distressed state. Eventually she lay down on the grass, with my Mum over her stroking her as she died.

Horrible day for the whole family, and all my Mum's employees, so Life EV today went waaaay down, and all those memories of seeing the animal so distressed will live with me forever

Anyway, enough of the depressing stuff about my life, I just needed to get that into words, onto the poker:

So What Else Did I Do Today?

Well, after we buried the horse I decided I couldn't really face a few grinding sessions or studying sessions, so decided to chill and watch a film: The Book Of Eli (Which I strongly recommend, how I idolise Denzel Washington ♦). After that I decided to open up the poker tables, so I played 9 tables for about 300 hands or so (I would give you the exact number but for some reason PT3 has merged my two sessions into one ?() And because of a few bad beats at the start of the session (One in particular was where I had TT on a 792r board, I check/raised and he pushed all in. I call, he turns over K5o, and runner runners 5s X() Anyway, long story short, although it's a bit late for that, is that I ended the session -$0.98.

So I take a small break, and come back determined to play A-Game throughout. So I begin 12 tabling, which I rarely, if ever do. I whacked on Godspeed! You Black Emperor's F#A# (Infinity) ( They are a post rock band, that I storngly suggest to anyone who likes Sigur Ros or Mogwai). I opened up the tables and just played. I found it quite exciting 12 tabling, never a dull moment, although things got a bit hairy on one occasion when I was heavily involved in 4 hands at the same time. But, once again, long story short, an hours or so and a few idiots later I have played about 700 hands and made a session profit of +$7.87

This brings my Day 3 conclusions to 1,189 hands with a profit of +$6.89, which i'm not unhappy about at all ♦

Chaos Theory

As I have stated in this blog, i've recently been reading Ace On The River, and in this book there is a small chapter outlining the Chaos Theory (Basically when a mathematician stated that if a butterfly flapped it's wings, a series of miniscule events could trigger a tornado somewhere in the World, which is complete crap by the way, i'm assuming he just used it as an example ♦). And events today (With the horse and whatnot) got me thinking even more about it. Obviously in Ace On The River all the examples were poker based, such as mini-events causing you to get a different seat than you would at WSOP because you were 1 minute later, and getting this seat caused you to win it. But I was thinking about it about this day's events, I mean, My Mum had been trying to catch the horse that kicked her Horse earlier in the day, if she had caught it and put it out in the field then, her horse would have been in a different position, therefore maybe this wouldn't have happened at all. Or maybe if her Horse had trotted upto this new horse at a slightly different speed this other horse would have been in a slightly different position when he kicked out, therefore causing it to land on the upper thigh (Which would have resulted in a bruise, instead she was kicked right on her joint, snapping her leg).
I'm not sure what my point is in this part, just realising this theory outlined in the book can very realistically be applied to real life.

Man very sad story to hear...Sorry. I know how we get attached to animals specially horses since they live for so long and you have a very special connection with them. Death is such a bad thing...Why does it even exists sigh....I don't fear much things in life...But when it comes to this...

I don't know how you manage to 12 tables, already I get so much action with 7 to 9 tables...sometimes I have to look at my hud to know their 3bet % and stuff so with 12 tables that would be impossible.

I think the butterfly thing with the Chaos theory was about the graph the mathematian came up with. It looked like a butterfly. They usually talk about that in meteorology, where after 10 days it is impossible to predict the temperature because the slightest chance at the start with have a huge impact on the rest.

Nice profit for NL2. I am on a upswing as well hehe.

Yeah I wasn't even that close with this horse, it's just the fact i've generally been around her for my whole life. My Mum was understandably devastated and will be for some time, even my Dad was in tears

Regarding the 12 tables thing, I find that if i'm in a position where I get 3bet, I look to see if they're a tight player, if they are I fold my mid pocket pairs (OOP especially) call my mid-high pairs, including QQ, call AK and obviously raise KK and AA. But if I see they are loose players I check their 3bet quickly by clicking on their HUD, there haven't been any situations where i've had to assess more than 1 Preflop 3Bet at a time whilst i've been 12 tabling. I won't usually be 12 tabling, just because of the amount of concentration and focus it takes, but as a once off I find it quite exciting

I'm not sure about the butterfly thing, in Ace On The River it says this is a theory the mathematician came up with, but i'll take your word for it because it this was a theory he came up with he's completely wrong. The temperature thing definately makes sense though I like the Chaos Theory though, because this si something that affects every one of us in real life.

And i've seen in your blog that you hit an upswing Nice to hear it, I hope we move up the limit together, this time next year we'll be crushing durrr and Ivey on the HU tables ♦ :f_biggrin:

I started playing nl4 with BSS month ago. Took some stabs at nl10 as well. played 10k hands this far. Profit ~50$ and BR 150$. before that I grinded 3-4$ sng`s for about 6 months and could not move up. So that's why decided to change something!

That hand with JJ.. hmmm.. I think that i would prefer 3betting there rather than calling. You will have position, you will have initiative. You will know where you stand against good players. If he is TAG, nit or rock and he 4bets, then just fold and save some money. If he is a fish or very LAG, getting all in there with JJ preflop HU I thing would be even +EV. In case he calls your 3bet, you could take the pot down in many times with a cbet on flop.

Maybe you could post your graph from PT3!

O and by the way, if you play your A game all the time and you are playing profitably, then move up on nl4, don`t stick very strictly to BRM rules, be creative. Take a stab at nl4.

@rupucis2 - Again, thanks a lot. Yeah looking back on it a 3bet preflop may well have been a better option. I have actually taken a stab at NL4 but I had a massively horrible day and lost quite a lot, so i'm sticking to NL2 for a while. I think when I get my BR to about $70-80 I will take another stab at NL4, but until then i'm sticking with NL2. Thanks for the advice on PT3 graph, I had compeltely forgot about it ♦ I will post one of my NL2 progress when I update tonight (I'm going to leave out my NL4 because looking at that bad day depresses me :p). As I had hoped it is raining today, so i'm going to grind a bit, i'm also thinking of depositing $20 in FTP, as I need to give someone $5 over player transfer so I thought I may aswell get enough to play a bit of NL2

Small Update

So, as it was raining today I should have put in some serious volume like I was wanting to, unfortunately my pursuit of trying to get RB on Full Tilt Poker consumed a lot of my time, as did having to cook tea for my Mum, Dad and 2 brothers X(. While we're on the topic, if I can't get RB on Full Tilt, which is better (In terms of bonuses, rewards, and crushability of micro stakes): Pokerstars or Full Tilt?

Anyway, I played 2 quite long sessions in terms of hands (For me anyway):

Session 1: 596 hands - +$1.96 (12 tabling NL2 again :))
Session 2: 760 hands - -$4.37

So, I didn't do too well in that second session, don't really know what went wrong, none of my steal attempts worked, nor did any of my conti-bets. And when I hit I always got outdrew
