Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $1(BB) Replayer
BB ($99.85)
($103)
UTG ($100)
Hero ($139)

Dealt to Hero T♣ T♥

fold, fold, Hero raises to $2.50, BB raises to $4, Hero calls $1.50

FLOP ($8) 5♥ 8♠ 3♦

BB checks, Hero bets $4, BB raises to $8, Hero calls $4

TURN ($24) 5♥ 8♠ 3♦ 9♠

BB bets $5, Hero calls $5

RIVER ($34) 5♥ 8♠ 3♦ 9♠ 6♠

BB bets $9, Hero calls $9

BB wins $50

villain is 30/16 after 57 hands, AF5. I usually categorise these tiny preflop 3bets as very low pps/scs hoping either for a fold or to hit a nice board with initiative. A fold is out of the question but 4betting and getting min-5bet is no fun either.
facing checkminR on flop is clearly very gay but the alternative is to checked behind which seems weak (although maybe not).
I think on the turn I should already fold since there are virtually no worse hands out there any more. But I find it impossible (or very difficult) to fold when my hand "appears" to be the best hand on the board and I'm getting really good odds. (but I am basically beating air, AK, 22, 44 and not much else)

Someone help me to find the fold button, before I go broke.

Hi,

Are you SB? But villain has to make the first action on flop? Is it HU? I'm kind of confused, because UTG is still there, but maybe not blinded in...??
I'd 4-bet big preflop and shove for 100BB in BvB war against that guy.

As played: Your hand is relatively face up.
With your intention of keeping the pot small, I'd check behind on flop and call him down no matter what cards come, except two ugly cards in a row, like A, K...

What did he have? QQ?

Best regards,
Anin

I was on the button. Small blind had just gone broke and was not involved, so it was BU vs BB.

I'm happy to go broke preflop versus an aggressive regular 3betting quite widely from BB. However versus a likely fish min3betting us, with a big gap between vpip and pfr I strongly suspect we will usually be very far behind if all the money goes in preflop.

He had KK here.

I usually categorise these tiny preflop

i usually categorise such bets as bluff\nuts. So im calling too.
If i decide to bet flop (which is very likely) its strongly bet\fold cos i will see KK,AA here too often.

I would probably play it the same although I think raising small on the turn should be considered to get a free SD.
However, since he took a stop-n-go line on flop+turn I think this could happen again, so I'm also happy to just call the small bet and get to SD cheaply.

On the river it's close, I think folding is likely to be the best option because we beat nothing but a very weirdly played TP type hand or overcards, and in both cases imo he's very unlikely to betting like this in the first place.

I also considered raising the river to get him to fold QQ+ (which I think are his most likely holdings given the min3bet preflop and the postflop action), but since he seems to not play too good this might be massive spew, so it's probably better to refrain from raising and take the safe line - fold.
