True not a bad idea :) i'll probabaly just mix some $1 games in with the turbos like i did tonight, ended up a few dollars down. Played well pushing good and getting beat any time i had a higher suited ace i got beat by a lower ace everytime time. And when i ended up down to 2 or 3 bb's and pushing something like q7s it would hold vs ak and next hand i'd get 1010 and it would be beat by 66. Also my shoves from button with strong hans always got beat by the nuts or ended up in a race where they were ahead every time.I'll just have to battle through it.

going to go for a run in the rain now :) should be good

Finally managed to get some results tonight +$20ish. I still lost a lot of races and got bad beat a bit more than usual. Got qq in good when i had a nice stack a few times and lost. Oh well, I'll keep on grinding tommorow. I feel i'm mostly playing well just not running as nicely as I would like to.

shoved aq and got beat by aj then next hand lose a race my ak vs 44 to bust in 8th with a nice stack. I was top 3/9 in another only to lose when my kk was beaten by ak. Still don't feel i'm running anywhere near reasonably yet.

ran bad again today getting in good and losing it all. Nice of 66 to beat my aa by hitting a straight, a2 to beat my ak, q10 beating my kj by hitting a straight. ak beat by a8. I feel i'm getting in good and holdem resources calculator agrees with the majority so i'll just keep on trying and plugging any leaks i find and try and study as much as possible

Yesterday I didn't play much but made some profit to get BR to $214 . Today i've played 9 games so far and not made an ITM. In one game i was 1/12 only to lose my 99 beaten by 1010 then a few hands later blind vs blind he steals really wide nearly 50% of the time, i call with 77 and he has 99.

I felt like i played absolutely rubbish but i've just looked over my hands and it's mostly coolers, my high cards vs their pair or my pair vs their high cards and i didn't hold very much towards the end. I lost AQ vs A7 which was annoying.

Anyway time to study a bit more and play some more later:)

** update,

Ok so i've just finished playing again. Got some nice runs going but bust out when i was ahead in a few and the others were close coolers. I managed to win a $1 90 man turbo for $22 so that's a bit better, back up to $215

It is good to have an all-in ritual to avoid the variance and coolers of the MTT. Just something you do before you go all-in. I was finding the MTT variance annoying until I started having an 'All-in ritual'. Now the 'All-in'ritual' reduced my variance and increase my ROI.

Dont know if it will work for Turbos though _biggrin:

You need more than Nash and good cards to be very profitable at poker

You want an all-in ritual? Maybe this is worth trying out?

haha nice ritual :) I might try it ( when i'm alone ha )

Tonight started off nicely got some big chip leads but i made a couple of possible mistakes which messed it up at the end. I think i was too aggressive on the final tables, while everyone sat folding and only pushing the nuts vs my slightly wider ( tighter than nash range though) and beat me. That was frustrating.

Acespeci, yeh there is so much more to poker that i don't even know where to look to improve my game. I mean tonight i played well but a couple of slight mistakes and i've probably lost at least $5 from that alone. I can't get any good consistent run gonig on these games and i'm trying to study but I can't get it right. I have been running pretty bad mostly over the last week though, so if i get a better run i'll see how it goes.

Acespeci any other advice you can offer to be very profitable at poker :P ? lol

oops just realised i've been using holdem resources calculator slightly wrong the past few days using chip ev instead of ICM, i hadn't realised it had defaulted to chip ev.

Move up where they respect your raises? j/k. Yeah it is important to start using ICM mode when you hit the final two tables. Some say to use chip mode up until final table, but I found it was much too loose personally. I go somewhere in between Chip EV and ICM on 2nd final table...

Don't forget to adjust ranges, if a nit is shoving from UTG, then calling with 44, 55 may no longer be profitable under the same circumstances that if a 'reg' was shoving there. Don't forget to adjust your ranges depending on your opponents.

Good luck!

Haha I wish i could move up :P it's difficult at the moment though, for some reason, maybe i just don't have the skill yet.

Yeh your right chip ev is incredibly loose in places, pretty much telling you to push 22 every hand. I think ICM mode seems much more realistic. I think I adjust reasonably well to opponents but i'm still making mistakes in places.

I built a lot of nice stack of around 3k in most of my 2nd session of 9 games tonight, but i just couldn't push them further and get a few good itm, only managing a 5th and back down to $201. I feel i'm close to playing a good game but somethings missing.

Going to take a night off tommorow and then get back into it on Thursday :)

Also i'm due my $10 stellar reward next time i play most likely so I'm going to possibly use that to play a couple of different games, maybe two higher BI games for fun or 4 $2.50 180 mans rather than just add it to my BR and possibly burn it away playing my regular games.

I wonder if at $3000 stack when blinds hit say 125/250 and higher how wide are you making calls in the BB when BU or SB shoves?

Some opponents are using cEV mode and pushing any two on BU and SB (even earlier) If you can spot these opponents, you can call very wide - more than you'd expect.

It sucks when villain shoves 95o, and you call A9s and he sucks out a straight. I still get a lot of double ups capitalizing on the too loose pushes of some 'regs' and others. I see some players calling ridiculously loose against bigstacks in BB with pot odds, and EV wise it's probably profitable, but maybe it's even more profitable long term to give up some of these almost any two calls, and keep an edge against less skilled (hopefully) field.

Are you aware of the 360-man, 50-cent buy-in turbos? I'd imagine a 30% roi is easily achievable for these games. But with more variance of course.

Hey gav, I'm calling reasonably wide, it depends on who the button /sb is though but especially against a small stack i'll call wider but i'm pretty sure not anywhere near cev would suggest, and maybe not quite as wide as nash. I think it's important to see that a player is stealing a lot and call them more with a nash range. I call wide vs small stacks pretty often and it seems to be profitable.

Yeh i think your right and i shouldn't call too wide in BB especially vs big stacks i will tighten up unless they are shoving / stealing a lot.

Hey Arthur! :) I tried one tonight, i may experiment with some of those games and see how they go.

My first 9 games tonight ended around break even. In my second session i tried to focus and just play my game. I've been getting up to near 3k stacks quite often but then not making itm enough so i've played a bit tighter and more carefully and it seemed to work tonight. I ran ok aswell even though an AA bust me to a short stack 8 handed on final tables i had about 2.5 bb left and was shortest stack but managed to crawl back and get a 2nd place which was good. It definitely shows the value in being careful with your short stacks.

No wins tonight unfortunately, but a 2/90 2/45 3/45 4/45 6/45 made it a profitable night.

* $1.50 45 man turbo 12 games 92% roi 33.3 itm +16.56

$1 90 man 2 games +$13.15

*** 4 $0.50 turbos -$2

total +$27.71 up to $229 plus got my first milestone credit of $10 which i've not claimed yet.

Need to watch some more videos on here and work on my game too, I really want to focus more on my study

Did you try having an All-in Ritual yet?

Another way to be more profitable at poker is to run your time bank for a few seconds in late position when your suppose to be pushing but dont have a hand to push. As if your contemplating a push.

It will make the players in late position think you want to push but resisting the temptation. So when you do push they think its a a decent hand.

Hope it make sense to you. Its some psychology stuff :]

Sorry but I cant give you all my secrets _biggrin:

I'm not sure about this one tbh.

First of all, you can't be sure if your opponents are actually paying attention at all, especially at these limits. Second, if they are thinking players they might be multitabling. So they probably won't even notice timing tells.

Also, say he does think and does notice your timing "tells". Now what does he think?
1) He has a strong hand and is slowrolling.
2) He is multitabling so action is probably on some other table.
3) He isn't 100% sure whether to push, so he probably doesn't have a monster.
4) He isn't sure if he should be pushing garbage here, but he might.

That's four different things he could think IF he's paying attention and IF he notices timing tells.

So it seems a bit far-fetched to me really :/

But yes the all-in ritual I can definitely recommend :f_biggrin:

That makes some sense thanks guys :)

Built some nast stacks yesterday and today, getting up to 2.5 - 3k fairly easily usually over 70% of games, but i'm just not getting itm it's frustrating. A lot of races lost, close decisions and them having the nuts. arghh feel my game is good but i'm not getting the results at all so i'm guessing not

WELL, AKS beatn by a4 vs a fish who won every hand when he was way behind. Then i shove AK, meet A5S and guess what, he gets the flush? another time I get ak in vs a2o and guess what he flops a straight.

Managed to get around breakeven but that means nothing if I'm missing out on good spots because of bad beats or as seems to happen a lot, I push sb and meet aa in bb and i call in bb and sb has the nuts. Mad how often it happens when your against someone shoving wide and calling wide.

Anyway time to enjoy a bit more sun :)

I need to figure out where i'm heading with my game. Last month i was profitable in the $1.50 turbos but not by a great amount (+$75.90 although it included the small amount of $1.50 90 man reg speed on hem2 for some reason, so not completely accurate) and after this month i've played 71 games so far and i'm down $20 in those games. The profit back in the 0.25 games was much more steady and my game was pretty solid but now i've moved up and i'm playing turbos I'm not sure where I stand. I feel like I play pretty well and often build several nice stacks in most sessions. Maybe I need to read players better, that would help on the flop, as i curently play fairly straightforward. I think i just need to keep on finding little mistakes, learning from them and keep on grinding. I'm getting a bit bored of the up and down at the moment though and I need to find some motivation from somewhere, I've thrown a couple of $2.50 180 mans into the mix now and then and they are certainly beatable games if i didn't get bad beat / lose every race. I'm sticking to pretty strict BR management but really keen to beat the $1.50 and i'm happy to load 9 $1.50 games with a $200 BR. If I head below $185 i'll be more sensible and probabaly try some more $0.50 but to be honest i hate those games and can't get anything going. They are the same structure as the $1.50 but something about them is different, maybe it's the players or maybes it's becuse of the lower BI and mentally that makes me less focused?.

I study uing holdem resources calculator quite a bit and reading books etc but I could do with a bit more advice on how to review my sessions on Holdem manager 2 ? I'm not really sure what aspects I should be focusing on for these turbos e.g should i be looking at what happened when i faced a 3bet pre and how i handled it? which cards i'm winning / losing most with and then try to figure out why / play them differently etc ?

It would be nice if you could deposit to another site Full Tilt perhaps or Pokerstars (if you havent already inorder) to get their 1st Deposit Bonus.

While your playing the high variance MTT your raking your bonus which will compensate your breakeven days or downswing days.

Hey, 70 games is really nothing in MTT's, we have swings of up to 100BI to put up with as punishment for playing such a profitable format. I can sympathize with the constant bad beats, coolers and setups.. but eventually they come your way. at least I'm hoping so.

For reviewing, try to put opponents on ranges, look at what hands people are actually shoving/calling with, and get a feel for equities. i.e. if you are in cEV mode, and you only need 25% equity to make a call profitable, you can calculate this range using Equilab.

One of the other things I do is replay entire tourneys in HEM. Get a feel for how others are playing (usuallly terribly)

One thing I'd like to do more of when replaying tourneys is add notes in HEM. Especially if someone is giving you a hard time, 3bettting from SB vs your BU minraise.. to get an idea of what kind of hands they do it with.

I've used the replays to get good reads on some 'regs' - and knowing that they shove ATC from BU for example can be very profitable...despite them sucking out 25% of the time.

Anyway hope our luck turns around. Keep playing, it's all one big long session.
