Hmmm Fongie just returned and saw the hand and he had some doubts on the call.
We then talked about -EV & +EV stuff regarding fish and I told him my thoughts about it and I think it is handy to write an article in my blog about it so we can have some discussion about it instead of all these Emma watson trollers..
I got this idea of thought from anoter instructor on another training site, it blows me away how many notes I have made so far
it's simply amazing

When a –EV move is turning out to be a +EV payday
We all know this kind of situation:
Hero raises X,Y . Fish has effective stack of 35bb on the blinds and calls. Flop is A,B,C giving you a gutshot + one overcard. Fish checks. You cbet because you have good chances of squeezing out a positive expected value combining Pot Equity with Fold Equity.
Let’s say the pot is 8bb, you cBet 5.5bb and then the fish c/shoves for 31.5bb total.
That means our pot odds are 31.5+5.5+8bb against our effective stack (=35bb MINUS 3.5bb+5.5 = 26bb)
So it is 45:26 == 1.73:1 or 37% equity we need to be break even.
Well obviously our equity itself isn’t that good. A normal gutshot over 2 streets gives us roughly 15% equity. An overcard is sometimes 2 or 3 outs so roughly between 8-11% equity. Therefore one can say that we have roughly 27% equity. Definitly not enough to make the call ay? So what do we do?
• Bet/fold?
or
• Bet/call ?
I want to say that if you already decided what to do that you should your general approach in how to tackle these situations. If you conclude before you reason in general, you will be more prone to make costly mistakes.
My main approach is to see what the EV is of these 2 situations. I say two because we need to calculate the EV of the breakeven situation and the actual EV.
Well the first one is pretty easy. It is EV(0) if we meet the equity of 27% exactly.
The second one is abit harder as we have to use the EV formula of:
EV = Pot*Foldequity + (1-Foldequity)[(eff.Stack+Deadmoney)*Equity – (eff.Stack*(1-Equity))]
But since we created an excel sheet ( can be found at the download section ) we fill in the simple numbers:
The Pot is 45, effective stack is 26. Dead money is 19*
*Since we don’t have FEQ we obviously have to convert the difference of 45-26 into the other section
Our equity is 27% so we get this:

This means that IN LONG TERM we are going to lose 6.83 units EVERY time we do this.
But wait. We are playing against Fish.
What do Fish do when they bust? 99% of the time they leave. The reason of this is pretty wide as some think it is the tablename that give them bad luck, others are simply broke etc.
So we have a n=1 as sample and we can never ever got to a long term sample (that is like 1,000 times AT THE VERY LEAST).
That means that we have to be very active, reckless, aggressive in busting the fish as soon as possible. That means we have to be quicker than 4 or 7 others because if we aren’t, they are busting the fish and their (easy) money!
So since the unit of -6bb may be really disastrous. If we call and bust the fish, we earn 35bb, and he leaves never to be seen again.
Furthermore if we call and lose. He has a stack of 70bb, so we have him well covered and have a 2nd chance to bust/beat him up! Just make sure you stay the King on the table and not the other regulars.
I think it is critical to be always assessing these situations individually as there is no general consensus of numbers when we have to call if we only have n=1 as sample. If an EV is like -25bb (that means like we have a gutshot only) and his effective stack is 40bb, I think our chances are way too slim to get a good profit immediately (like 15% longshot)
I hope with this I have illustrated that sometimes when something looks –EV, that calling is still really a profitable call because EV is always based on long term & high quantity of simulations of the same situation (like AK versus JJ preflop all-in if you are a shortstacker). Since we play against Fish, their natural habit is to leave the table as soon as they bust. It is a game within a game. It is a race. It is a fight to finish him off like Mortal Combat!
Feel free to discuss
Currently in these 10 days I run:

Not too shabby. I still have loads to learn
Like confirming myself over and over again that those regs just have the nuts when they ''play back against'' u since they play 7-10 tables anyway and are terrifuckingbad.
I also checked out some Reg's observed hands and couldn't really see that much except some betsizing tells I have sneaky sneaky wirtten down
Life in Vienna is a bit hot here, 30-34 degrees. I yet have to read any book I brought with me in the park. I mean I do not want to sit with that temperature in the park
sounds a bit crazy
I also see I rake a lot.. 10bb/100 , that's crazyy. NOt sure if this is for every 100NL player at the moment. I play 100NL now since I want to get my grind back and moving up to 200NL in this period is not really maxEV for me.
Furthermore I also have an expensive roadtrip coming up so 6-7tabling bashing the regs and frying the fish style is pretty cool
I went to a new club in Vienna yesterday. it was this beach club were it was outside so we wore shorts.... bad idea.... mosquito's FUUUUUUCK
but also we relocated to a new venue but obv we didn't get in ♦
Anyway tomorrow we will stop the cashgame griiiiiiiiiiiind....

Tomorrow is MTT day ♦ not sure how much I am going to tinvest in this but we are planning to play MTTs from 13:00 till the last tournament we play ♦
I also have my coaching but I do not think that will interfere
So I guess I will play a lot of tournaments on Stars & 888 tomorrow, maybe I grab some other skins as well but not sure about that
Wish us a lot of final tables ♥

Hey there,
Hand 1: Fold pre. 97o sucks oop. If you dont hit that turn you have to fold everytime.
Hand 2: Ur getting it in vs. AA AQ 66 anyway. You should think about how you can maximize your value vs. the weaker part of his range. If the Turn is not a A or K do u think he is calling down with AK?

Heyho
True about hand 2 in terms of max value. It was a turbo table though so I have like 6-7 seconds to react and figured he sees every ace as the same because my line looks so full of shit.
but about 97o, hmmm I play really loose aggro versus nits and fit/fold fish in an unraied pot. I don't like raising due SPR nor folding since the table just has started and as u can see a reg is kinda strange

99% sure I will watch this awesome 3fuckingD movie in Budapest with my good friends Gina & Ash (and maybe some girls or other emma fans along the way ♦ )
From now on any spoiling troll will get shot at sight ♦ So do not get confused when you see ''global'' as status instead of ''Diamond'' or ''Black member'' ♦

Hi der
I am vIP, u r bronze ....
♦
So I accidently went to IMAX 3d Harry Potter with Ingolpoker yesterday night. I just finished eating and watching a mindblowing TED about appraised values when I got his text message
The movie itself was a bit too dark to follow well with this 3d glasses but man.. she had a nice cleavage in the beginning ♦ also she was wet so that was exciting to see as well
So the movie itself was well worth the money, shame she wasn't featured that much in this last video nor a close makeout scene nor a bed scene
After the movie we went to a random club I have never been to and what the fuck
I saw this:
You tell me ? I walked up there and got in a classic conversation, she mostly wanted to dance so that's what we did. Unfortunately she hit & ran me at some point but that was no biggy, I got it all on camera baby
so now I am just enjoying life+1 . probably will hunt around stephansplatz for some clothes and presents. I am also in the mood in eating a subway sandvich *nom*nom*nom*!
A poker related post can be posted later on but not sure ♦

Anyway, Isnt she lesbian ?
Bisexual is fine with me, I always ♥ 3oaks , I run hot when it comes to hitting that
HAAAAAAAAAALfffffffftime
Ok so I got some more things to write, it is the 14th of july and since I will be having a hangover tomorrow due Ingolpoker's birthday party ( I bought something really polarized for him ♦ either he hates it and I be flying back to Holland earlier than expected. Or he loves it and offers me free luckbox coaching ♦ )
When Fongie left, I think my volume decreased a bit. I went into town today so I couldn't play this afternoon nor I have time tonight as I am partying. I think it comes from both ways I do not have volume:
1) being myself, the idiot Gerv but also
2) my location: Vienna, friends & events are present here that are too good to pass up
So far I have been happy with 90% of the sessions I played. Relaxed. Composed. Full Focused. Ready for Battle. Elusive. The other 10% well I just managed to drag myself through the short-term variance. I also started up new tables which is a new phenomena for me.
It works quite well but it is higher variance as there are new situations that I am not used to. I think with proper study, I will manage to take care of business right there
HU strategy is definitly something to look out for
I think I have enough cash to go on a roadtrip wiht my friends + celebrate my birthday party. It also shows that I have the confidence & skill to beat this limit and also 200NL for sure ( It's like comparing 10NL with 25NL ; same fish & regs only with double the money
)
I haven't shown my whole potential to myself I think. It is pretty hard for myself to judge me 100% accurate, objective and fair. I am always too hard with myself. I even hit myself sometimes like literally. Sounds weird but it helps as long as I do not get a concussion jajaja
Take care
PS: if you see shortstackers/midstackers suddenly rebuying to max. they are terrible and out of their comfort zone. They can't play pre, post, turn & River properly and you just have to treat them like a maniac fish with a blend of TAGness *nom*nom*
