Pokerwise , i've been trapped with some schoolwork. Math_lol & Marketing is sucking up some time

Also I heard some classmates want to do a platinum week. Now before everyone are going to say ''pffffff platinum, bitch please Diamond week ftw'' or something along the lines of that. It means this:

Term used by Irish college/uni students. Like the Golden week (where one goes to every class in a week on time) except every night throughout the week one goes out on the piss, and making it into class the next morning.

I can do 3-4 days in a row but that includes sleepy sleepytime, not sure if I can sneak in a pillow in class

Psychology of Regret.

Imagine that you have a flight at 8:00 in the morning. Which would be worse, arriving at the gate, breathless, at 8:02, just after they’ve closed the door, or at 10:00, thanks to a couple unplanned delays in your morning. Obviously, the first scenario would cause far more misery, but why? Either way you’re stuck at the airport until the next flight, eating the same bad, overpriced food, missing whatever you were supposed to do after your planned arrival, whether that’s meetings or a stroll on the beach.

The difference between the two scenarios is the intensity of the regret you would feel—a great amount in the former and a lot less in the latter. As it turns out our happiness frequently depends not on where we are at the moment, but how easily we perceive we might be elsewhere, or in another, better situation. With the missed flight, you’re in the airport either way, but when it’s a close call, you can think of a dozen little things that would have changed the situation, and each one brings a pang of regret. So, the closer we are to this other possibility, what we refer to as counterfactual, the unhappier we become.

While there are plenty of things in life that cause disappointment and aggravation, consider the case of Costis Mitsotakis, a resident of Sodeto, Spain, who was the only person in this 70 household village who did not receive a share of the $950 million lottery payoff. The story is this: every year the homemaker’s association of Sodeto sells tickets to all the residents, and in 2011, their number won first prize (shared with 1,800 other winning tickets, but still an immense payoff for a tiny, economically depressed town). When the townspeople heard the news, they ran outside, and were congratulated over a megaphone by their jubilant mayor. But soon it was discovered that one resident hadn’t bought a ticket—Mr. Mitsotakis, who had moved to Sodeto for a woman with whom things did not work out, was overlooked when the homemakers made their yearly rounds.

In this case, the counterfactual looms incredibly and painfully large. If only they hadn’t skipped his house or he had run into them at some point—the smallest earning from the lottery in the village was $130,000, and some won more than half a million dollars. If that wasn't bad enough, the reminders of this alternative outcome will last for the rest of his life, or at least as long as he remains in Sodeto. Mr. Mitsotakis will be continually reminded of the tiny difference in events between his life now and what it would have him. If I were him, maybe I would simply move. This would probably decrease his happiness in the short term, but in the long run I think his life would be much better, and much less regretful.

So, next time you miss a flight, are first in line after tickets sell out, or get stuck in traffic after trying out an alternative route home, just remember, your situation may be frustrating, but it’s not like you lost half a million dollars and it is not as if you will keep on remembering this for the rest of your life.

My thoughts:

Isn't this the same where in a game where you play 1 vs 1 (HU Poker , any videogame) and you clearly got steamrolled, you just shrug it off and promise yourself to improve for the next times.

Compare the emotion with that you play versus the same opponent but your skillset level is about the same (let's say 80% with 0% being absolute n00b and 100% being CPL pro gamer)

Now you lose by a small error, I am pretty sure you (like me) will be emotionally more intense (it differs per person but let's say 0%=poker face and 100%= monkey tilt). The instance where you got clearly steamrolled, your emotional intensity is floating around 25% I think? While if you were just losing by just a small tiny little error, your emotional intensity is skyrocketing towards the 90-100% zone

For me it is interesting why we react this way. The example of the airport I can personally relate as I had one instance where I was 24hours too late and one instance where I was just 15 minutes too late because of a traffic jam

Reminds me of when I bust early in mtt's from playing badly, I just think I will try not to do that again with some regret.
But when I do it close to the bubble im fuming!!!
Example last night I played the uk and ireland freeroll top 10 get a ticket from 600+ players and I busted 17th with the crappiest shove of all time!!! Regret factor 100!!!

It's really heavy indeed if you realize what we as human beings (or the other 99%) are doing

What I have been doing is the regular PLO thing, I managed to screw up my energy levels correlated with lack of sleep. I noted it down in my mental journal and I feel this is preventing me from getting an additional B+ Game session in there

PLOwise, I've been improving my skillset a bit more, posting//discussing hands. Studying videos and studying Regulars and see how they play (terms of inflection points, valuebet range etc.)

Seems a bit far fetched for a small stakes PLO player but anything I can get my holds on, I will absorb it asap.

Magic the Gathering wise, I found some new training websites. Like StarCityGames is a vendor of cards but at the same time they host big tournaments with live broadcast at Twitch, providing strategy articles at $2.5 a month or something

Coming week is going to be sick I think:

• Monday: Lectures, Test & maybe going out?
• Tuesday: Lectures, Trading lectures and maybe another night out?
• Wednesday: Fly to Holland and squeeze in some Poker catchup + surprise my sister for her birthday
• Thursday: Family day, trying to finish some small projects + poker?
• Friday: Fly out to Vienna
• Saturday: TT's birthday party
• Sunday: Some quality time with the Viennese crew
• Monday & Tuesday: Start learning for 2 exams after I fly back + Poker?

hey gerv! I used to play magic and study the game ALMOST as hard as i study poker now, until i realised it was getting me nowhere and poker would, so i had to choose one of them, i chose poker.

i do plan on getting back into magic once i make enough $ in poker to build up a nice collection again!

i won a slew of fnm's and came close to winning a gameday one time, before calling it temporary quits.

I also joined up with Magic League with MWS because im not sure if it is +EV for me to start drafting on MTGO while I can do it for free with Netdraft and/or live here in Dublin

If you are returning, we can playtest some online if you want I'm more of a combo constructed player so I m not really a netdecker ( Mir-Kamigawa played MGA , Kamigawa-Rav played Enduring Ideal deck & Rav-Time Spiral played Snowwhite Control, almost wanted to play heartbeat). With Modern, I still have 4 T&Nails but any other awesome combo deck I will take
