Regarding that river shove range, you should actually pick some combos of KQ to bluff shove instead of AcJc, that hand is blocking villains bluff range quite badly.

I'm not sure about this but you probably should be folding some combos of KQ, so we might as well shove with some of them, specially without clubs.

I thought that might be the case... I wasn't sure if it was strong enough to call with or not.. Seems quite cool to turn it into a bluff though and makes a lot of sense - hard to see 3barrels with much worse value than KQ in that spot actually.

played a few hands today, feel the urge to post this - not sure if i like this hand because of my own handstrength or because of villain's. also i'm not actually sure if i like my play - how would you play this postflop?

preflop i'm usually folding it - i'm 3betting 66+ and my range is generally completely depolarised from the SB. i decided to 3bet 44 just because i didn't feel like folding.

i think the flop is a standard Cbet and i'm probably cbetting a lot here. however, i'm thinking there could be some alternative line i could take? for some reason i hated the river because it improves my range so much and i think i rep AA and flushes when i jam. i don't think bet-bet-bet is bad, but maybe there is a better line i can take?

Regarding the bold part, solid reasoning :)

Post flop we could start checking flop and slowplay, it could be decent. I'd bet bigger on the turn, you don't need a potsize bet on the river. And you should definitely shove river, check is bad, villain will not turn enough hands into a bluff, no point in risking a check back from AJ or something.

I feel like i misplayed this hand. i can't tell whether this is a fold on the turn or a bet on the river.

update time:

i'm back home now after a very crappy week. i stayed at my gf's (on the uni campus) with the hope that i could start running my dissertation experiment but it turns out my supervisor programmed the computer task badly and went out of office for the week. so i had spent about 3 days solid in the lab setting up the EEG (see pic below) trying to figure out what was wrong with everything. so that was a disaster. but it was still fun to set up the EEG and play around/watch my brain activity in real time

Spoiler

second disaster came the other night when i went to pick up my laptop and stupidly picked it up by the screen. the result was the following:

Spoiler

poker wise, it's a bit swingy atm. i was on a super heater lately but i decided to grind a bit whenever my gf wasn't around and i even decided to take a cheeky shot at nl50, which ended pretty badly. of course, i ran kinda bad in it and lost a few allin-pres and some other pots, and generally nothing really worked out as planned whenever i played, so i dropped back to nl25.

was ok yesterday, but today was a bit screwed and i was just getting crushed all day. i played around 700 hands last night before i slept and the rest when i woke up:

i did try to continue playing even though i really wanted to quit at about 1k hands - i always quit when things dont go my way and i want to just play through it and focus on volume, but it is sometimes difficult when nothing works out. here's 1 interesting hand from today

BB: $21.73 (108.7 bb)
UTG: $21.98 (109.9 bb)
MP: $11.85 (59.2 bb)
CO: $23.46 (117.3 bb) 22/21 over 88 hands.
Hero (BTN): $18.37 (91.9 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with 9 Q
2 folds, CO raises to $0.60, Hero calls $0.60, 2 folds

Flop: ($1.50) J 4 T (2 players)
CO bets $1.05, Hero calls $1.05

Turn: ($3.60) 3 (2 players)
CO bets $2.60, Hero calls $2.60

River: ($8.80) T (2 players)
CO bets $4.40, Hero raises to $14.12.........

what do we think about jamming on the river? and would we play this way against a bet of €6? i feel like half pot is often a bet/fold so i decided to jam my busted draw when i can credibly rep Tx, and he only ever has JT for Tx really. i think QQ+ bet bigger on all streets.

i'm always on tilt, so the whole thing

here's more spew.. i didn't want to raise turn because it hits his range quite well and i doubt he will fold given that no draws are in. on the river i think i can rep JTs or something... i think i look really damn nutted here and hopefully he folds AA. also i saw his half pot sizing and it made jamming tempting, even if it is quite an overbet..

so turns out i will be having my laptop screen fixed sometime tomorrow hopefully.

i'm not sure if i will have another chance to play poker until tuesday or wednesday, so here is my week:

for the most part i'm happy with how i've played, i know there have been many pots where my thought process was spot on but villain just kept getting there on the river. overall a lot of things just weren't working this week and i found myself overbetting into some weirdly played nuts. i also think i've ran myself into quads 2 or 3 times also - it's always funny to see how ppl don't like money when they hit hands like that and instead they just decide the best way to get value is to check 3 streets or something stupid.

something that has been bothering me for a long long time has been bet sizing - i always find myself confused and unable to properly explain why i'm betting a certain sizing. i'm really trying to work on this part of my game because it will be great to be confident in my decision making rather than playing inconsistently. so i'm currently going over some coaching videos trying to gather as much information as possible right now about this.

my goal this week is to get as much solid info as i can about bet sizing and start really thinking about it while playing.

non-poker, it's swingy. 2 participants decided to pull out from my experiment at the last minute which means i still have 19 participants left to get data from which is tight given my deadline. however, i got my results back this morning and i have officially done well in my second semester, so all is looking great and everything now relies on my dissertation. i think that means i have a PGDip or PGCert in psychological research methods - BOOM.

i found this quite interesting in game, let's see if it is away from the table too. i won't do any maths on this right now because i cba and i'm about to leave but i may well revisit this.

BB: $22.85 (91.4 bb)
UTG: $46.70 (186.8 bb)
MP: $59.98 (239.9 bb)
CO: $52.78 (211.1 bb)
BTN: $25.76 (103 bb) 15/10 over 34 hands, assuming he's a tight reg.

Preflop: Hero is SB with A J
3 folds, BTN raises to $0.75, Hero raises to $2.50, BB folds, BTN calls $1.75

Flop: ($5.25) 5 8 J (2 players)
Hero bets $2.50, BTN calls $2.50

Turn: ($10.25) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets $4.89, BTN calls $4.89

River: ($20.03) 7 (2 players)
Hero.......

preflop is a pretty standard 3bet for value vs a relatively unknown (and vs most players). flop plan is bet-bet-bet, but is it good?

sets raise the flop MOST of the time (although some ppl autoslowplay which is annoying). he never has QQ+.

on the turn his range is a few rare slowplays but mainly worse Jx hands and draws. I also expect T9s to raise now.

when he just calls again i think mainly KJ, QJ, JT and busted FDs on the river. i think the math should be quite simple to do here so we'll see, but intuitively i wonder which option is best between check/calling and just jamming it myself...

next hand:
Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): $38.30 (153.2 bb)
BB: $31.55 (126.2 bb)
UTG: $25 (100 bb)
MP: $29.58 (118.3 bb) 18/16 over 44 hands (assuming standard nl25 reg)
CO: $28.29 (113.2 bb)
BTN: $17.37 (69.5 bb) 33/19 over 44 hands, assumed fish.

Preflop: Hero is SB with 7 A
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.75, CO folds, BTN calls $0.75, Hero calls $0.65, BB folds

Flop: ($2.50) 9 6 J (3 players)
Hero checks, MP checks, BTN checks

Turn: ($2.50) 8 (3 players)
Hero bets $1.70, MP calls $1.70, BTN folds

River: ($5.90) 6 (2 players)
Hero bets $8.40

i called preflop because BB is a tight reg who i don't think will be squeezing much so i'm basically BB. i could also squeeze myself given that the reg opened and fish called. i don't think folding is that nice an option in comparison.

flop goes x-x-x and i expect the reg to cbet his decen hands and good draws like QTs T8s if he has it. when he checks i think he's just super weak, and the fish.. not sure what to do about him but i think he bets his good hands also.

on the turn i was contemplating what to do. my decision was between just overbetting now like ~$3.75 but i figured i could easily run into a hand like 88, 98, 86, J8 that checked flop, and of course some straights from the fish for example. it would suck to overbet and get raised because i'm so dead if that happens, so i decided to bet turn big(ish) with the intention of overbetting river because if i just get called on the turn then i can be pretty sure whoever calls is likely to be capped to something like A8, A9 type hands, maybe some FDs. i also doubt 6x gets to the river. not sure if this is good or spewy - i need to have ~59% FE on the river.

another hand i found interesting:

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): $37.48 (149.9 bb)
BB: $56.87 (227.5 bb) 27/8 over 53 hands.
UTG: $32.49 (130 bb)
MP: $117.28 (469.1 bb)
CO: $56.82 (227.3 bb)
BTN: $16.72 (66.9 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 6 Q
4 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, BB calls $0.50

Flop: ($1.50) 9 K 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.07, BB calls $1.07

Turn: ($3.64) K (2 players)
Hero bets $2.29, BB calls $2.29

River: ($8.22) 6 (2 players)
Hero.......

would you barrel this river and hope to fold out 9x, TT, JJ and better FDs? if so, what would your sizing be? if we give him this sort of range: {A9s, KTs+, K8s-K7s, Q9s, J9s, T9s, 98s, AhQh, AhJh, QhJh, AhTh, QhTh, JhTh, Ah8h, Qh8h, Jh8h, Th8h, Ah7h, 8h7h, Ah6h, 7h6h, Ah5h, 6h5h, Ah4h, Ah3h, Ah2h, KTo+, T9o} then he has trips about 35% of the time if he doesn't raise any on the turn. he has 9x, TT-JJ almsot 50% of the time and i'm pretty sure we could get him to fold these, but maybe i'm wrong? if we want to make him fold these we should bomb the river for close to pot.

i think this might be a mindset leak. i just hate losing hands like this. i have this bad mentality that i have to win it either by hitting or by making him fold. i mean he should raise trips and FH sooner in most situations, but it isn't wrong to assume a fair amount of slowplays. but the problem is more with me and my mind - i see the FD and i just start spazzing. maybe it's simply a check/?? on the turn and play the odds? the thing is the turn is really bad for my range and strengthens his so if i didn't have much FE on the flop i definitely don't on this turn so either i should check turn or barrel off for 3 streets, but betting turn and not river might be terrible because of this.
