Good morning people!

I haven't played much after New Years Eve since I've been really tired and my sleeping schedule has been really bad. Now it's 6am here in finland and I just woke up, feels great to get up early for a change, hopefully I'll be able to maintain this type of sleeping schedule! I'll start to play more regularly now and stick to my goals again. Playing two sessions is really not hard, I will start to play three sessions in a day soon I think.

Unfortunately I'm not able to post any graphs or hands since my HEM is not working with 24hpoker. Would be nice to post some interesting hands and discuss but whatever, I will start to post some hands and graphs in the future.

Time for first session of the day, wish me luck. :)

I haven't updated this blog everyday simply because I don't really know what to write. :f_biggrin: As I've said my HEM is not working so I'm not able to post any graphs or hands which is unfortunate. I aim to update everyday but some days there are no things to write about.

Recently I've struggled with things like productivity and procrastination. These things have been my weaknesses for a long time. I've watched tons of videos and read tons of articles about the subject but I feel like I haven't progressed as much as I would want to. I just realized that I've forgot the basic idea of productivity: doing things. I've read a lot of stuff and learned a lot, but I haven't implemented those things properly. Inspiration does not create action, action creates inspiration. From this moment I've decided to actually do things instead of thinking about things and not do them.

I woke up at 7:00 am today which is just awesome. I've had problems with having a really bad sleeping schedule. Hopefully I'll be able to keep this kind of schedule, waking up early just feels much better.

Poker is going pretty well. I'm winning and I'm pretty confident about my game. I just have to play more and move to NL50 as fast as possible since I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to win there aswell. I will move up as soon as my roll is 1,5k-2k.

By the way, if there are some study groups or just individuals who wants to learn and talk about poker, feel free to contact me. We could chat via skype.

Armin Only - Intense, 22 February 2014 Helsinki Finland, anyone going? :)

A Few things I'm planning to do in the next month:

  • Move up to NL50. I'm pretty close allready and I'm definitely winning at NL20, my winrate has been quite good but I'm not sure what it is exactly since I'm not using HEM at the moment. I will take shot when my bankroll is 1,5k and I drop down to NL20 if my bankroll goes below 1k.
  • I will buy double your 6max winrate course from bestpokercoach (also known as raskolnikov here in pokerstrategy). It costs 297e and I'm gonna buy it once my bankroll reaches 1,5k.
  • Get more volume!

Here are some of my short-term goals. "Get more volume" is bolded because I feel like I'm kind of waisting my time playing NL20 because I'm so confident that I can beat NL50 quite well too and therefore I want to move up as fast as possible. I just have to keep my mind clear and remember to play simple and aggressive game at the tables. And fold when dem villains are betting big! Just friking fold, they aren't bluffing as often as I think they are.

I just watched Schnitzelfisches video about procrastionation and that made me think about my procrastinating. I definitely procrastinate when I should play poker, I usually watch some youtube videos or "one" episode of some TV-serie thinking that I will play after I've finished this video/episode. I usually end up watching atleast second episode after the first one. After that I usually get hungry and I eat something unhealthy which makes me tired and I don't have enough energy to play poker anymore.

I just tried something new: I told myself that I'm going to play 30 minutes of poker and that's it, after I played 30 minutes I closed tables. Playing felt really good and I was way more relaxed than usually, that was because I didn't plan to play a long session, I knew that it would not be hard to play 30 minutes instead of playing 3-4 times more which might be exhausting. Some people might think that 30 minutes or 2-3 hours of playing is nothing, but some people (like myself) has to learn from the beginning how to play longer sessions. My plan is to increase the lenght of the sessions by 10 minutes at the time. From this moment I play only 30-minute long sessions because those short sessions are just so much easier to start. After I feel like starting a session is just really easy I start to play 40-minute sessions and so on. Hopefully this tactic will work and I'll be able to play and start much longer sessions without procrastination in the future. It's much better to play 2-3 30-minute sessions than only dream about playing four two-hour sessions!

I just played 2,5h session. That's completely normal for some of you guys but for me it's huge. I'm usually able to play like 1 hour sessions and after that I can't play my A-game anymore since I can't focus anymore and I start thinking about other things.

Session was overall really good: I was able to focus 100% most of the time, I didn't get emotional and my posture was great throughout the session. Because these areas were really good, I was able to focus and think about my game. I realized that my preflop and flop game is pretty damn good, but on the turn/river I made a couple of mistakes here and there. I think I try too hard on later streets. My plan for the future is to focus on playing preflop and flop like I've played this far and focus playing really solid and simple game on the turn and on the river.

Argh I'd like to post some hands here but I can't since my HEM is not working at 24hpoker. I played this one hand really badly. I called CO raise from the button with KcJc and BB called aswell. Flop was something like Qc7s4h. CO cbets really big, 1,40 into 1,80 pot. For some reason I decided to float with my backdoor flush- and straightdraw since I thought that I could possibly bluff villain off his hand on later streets and I could turn draws or a pair. I think I really should've folded because villains sizing is huge. Versus 1/2-2/3 potsize bet calling is good but 1,40 is just too big and it just makes villains range really strong in my opinion, especially 3way. Who cbets 1,40-1,80 3way as a bluff at NL20 or any stakes in that matter?? I'm dumb. BB folds and CO barrels something like 2,80 into 4,60 on a blank turn. I decided to raise since villains sizing got smaller and I thought that villain might fold top pair. I guess it's obvious what villain had when he called my raise and I just gave up on the river. First four seconds I thought that villain should've folded his AQ on the turn since I'm unknown to him and he can't put me on a bluff but let's face it, my play was awful, I realized it after 5 seconds. Even though I usually get emotional when I realize that I've made a mistake, this time I didn't since it was such a good session and I got an opportunity to learn from that mistake. Solid game with solid turn/river play from now on!

I'm really motivated right now, I'm sick of being stuck at these limits! Gotta keep moving forward.

Short update. I haven't played much in the past couple of days. Today I started to play again and it felt pretty good. Still playing NL20, but that should be changing soon, I hope. I've withdrawed some money which will slow me a bit from moving to NL50 but that's ok, I'm not planning to withdraw more until I'm NL50/NL100 regular.

I bought double your 6max winrate course from bestpokercoach (raskolnikov) and it has helped me a lot! Course has improved my approach and understanding to the game tremendously and it has helped me to remove a lot of bullshit from my game!

I'm planning to move my bankroll to William Hill soon since I'll be able to play speed poker there. 24hpoker has blaze, but those games aren't alive these days which is unfortunate since those games were super soft most of the time. I can use HEM at William Hill also which is quite nice, I've played over two months without hud!

I haven't updated this blog as frequently as I planned when I started this blog and that's because I don't really know what to write. Once I move my roll to WH and I'll be able to post some graphs and hands I start to update more often since then there's a lot more things to write about.

I've said this before but I repeat: if there are players who are playing NL20+ and who like to talk about poker, have sweat sessions or anything like that, feel free to add me as a friend here in strategy, we could talk via skype.

I really like this type of music while grinding. Smooth rhytms and doesn't require much "listening", it just plays smoothly in the background, if that makes sense. :P

Pretty non-productive week behind. I haven't played much this week since I moved my bankroll to poker770 and that took for a while. Now I have my bankroll there but the site is lagging unfortunately, right now I can't log in. I've managed to play few thousand hands, that's it. Next week has to be better.

Exercise:

IPoker, $0.10/$0.20 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

BB: $32.82 (164.1 bb)
UTG: $21.56 (107.8 bb)
MP: $29.16 (145.8 bb)
CO: $28.35 (141.8 bb)
BTN: $33.91 (169.5 bb)
Hero (SB): $22.10 (110.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q A
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.50, CO folds, BTN calls $0.50, Hero raises to $2, 2 folds, BTN calls $1.50

Flop: ($4.70) T 2 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $2.35, BTN calls $2.35

Turn: ($9.40) K (2 players)
Hero bets $4.70, BTN calls $4.70

River: ($18.80) 9 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $13.16, Hero folds

I had only few hands from both of these players so both are pretty much unknown.

Two questions about this hand:

  • 1. Is it profitable to bet on the flop and on the turn?
  • 2. River card is As. What's our play?

Question number 1:

Spoiler

Buttons range is propably something like this:

Pöytä: T♦2♦2♣
           VO  Voitto   Tasan
MP3    47.96%  43.25%   4.71% { AcQs }
CO     52.04%  47.33%   4.71% { JJ-66, 5d5h, 5d5s, 5d5c, 4d4h, 4d4s, 4d4c, 3d3h, 3d3s, 3d3c, 2d2h, 2d2s, 2d2c, AQs-ATs, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, T9s, 98s, 87s, 76s, AQo-AJo, KJo+ }

119 combos. When we cbet, villain is most likely not folding any pair or any Ad-hand. However villain is folding all those KQ/KJ/87s without a flushdraw and that's a lot of hands.

Villains calling range on the flop:

Pöytä: T♦2♦2♣
           VO  Voitto   Tasan
MP3    47.96%  43.25%   4.71% { AcQs }
CO     52.04%  47.33%   4.71% { JJ-66, 5d5h, 5d5s, 5d5c, 4d4h, 4d4s, 4d4c, 3d3h, 3d3s, 3d3c, 2d2h, 2d2s, 2d2c, AQs-ATs, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, T9s, 98s, 87s, 76s, AQo-AJo, KJo+ }

68 combos left, which means that my fold equity on the flop is 1 - 68/119= 43%. We need only 33% fold equity when we cbet half pot.

Turn is Kh and I bet again. Villains calling range is propably something like this:

Pöytä: T♦2♦2♣ K♥
           VO  Voitto   Tasan
MP3    24.14%  22.41%   1.72% { AcQs }
CO     75.86%  74.14%   1.72% { JJ-TT, 2d2h, 2d2s, 2d2c, ATs, KTs, QTs, JTs, T9s, AdQd, AcQc, KdQd, AdJd, AcJc, KdJd, QdJd, 9d8d, 8d7d, 7d6d }

30 combos left BUT I'm not sure if villain folds those pocket pairs (33-99). If he does then it's a clear bet on the turn but if he doesn't it's not good. Given the fact that I have a gutshot and two overcards vs villains pocket pairs and I would expect most villains to fold those hands on the turn I think turn bet is good.

Is it profitable to bet OTF and OTT? Yes, I think so.

Question number 2:

Spoiler

So we are assuming that villains range when we get to the river is something like this:

Pöytä: T♦2♦2♣ K♥ A♠
           VO  Voitto   Tasan
MP3    78.57%  75.00%   3.57% { AcQs }
CO     21.43%  17.86%   3.57% { JJ-TT, 2d2h, 2d2s, 2d2c, ATs, KTs, QTs, JTs, T9s, AdQd, AcQc, KdQd, AdJd, AcJc, KdJd, QdJd, 9d8d, 8d7d, 7d6d }

We have a nice lead in term of equity because of that As. But can we shove for value on the river? Let's assume that villain calls with this range:

Pöytä: T♦2♦2♣ K♥ A♠
           VO  Voitto   Tasan
MP3    14.29%   0.00%  14.29% { AcQs }
CO     85.71%  71.43%  14.29% { TT, 2d2h, 2d2s, 2d2c, ATs, AdQd, AcQc, AdJd, AcJc, QdJd }

We're pretty much crushed vs. this calling range, but this calling range is pretty tight. I'm not sure if villain is calling with hands like KQ/KJ/KT or worse. In my opinion we're either missing a little bit value or valuebetting vs calling range above.

Could we check/call? Let's see what range villain is shoving if we check on the river:

Pöytä: T♦2♦2♣ K♥ A♠
           VO  Voitto   Tasan
MP3    40.00%  30.00%  10.00% { AcQs }
CO     60.00%  50.00%  10.00% { TT, 2d2h, 2d2s, 2d2c, ATs, AdQd, AcQc, AdJd, AcJc, QdJd, 9d8d, 8d7d, 7d6d }

10 combos. Villain has those 3 combos of missed flushdraws and we win vs. AJ. We have 40% equity vs. this range. I'm not sure if villain has those SC-hands in his range or would he even shove those missed flushdraws as a bluff but given the fact that I would get pretty good odds to call and villain might turn something into a bluff every once in a while I think I could check/call here.

Feel free to share your opinions about those answers!

Played around 4 hours yesterday, lost like 8 buyins. Can't complain, I think I played well but who knows. I can only play the best I can and that's what I did. And I'm pretty confident that I'm a winning player.

Games this far at Poker770:

Only 16k hands and pretty much breaking even. Small sample, hopefully I'm winning in a long term! Games are pretty tough and there are a lot of regulars but it's ok, atleast I'm learning effectively. I'm playing 4 speed tables, 800 hands in an hour.

Played pretty rough session while ago, here's some of those interesting hands:

IPoker, $0.10/$0.20 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

BB: $38.66 (193.3 bb)
UTG: $19.01 (95.1 bb)
MP: $8 (40 bb)
CO: $45.81 (229.1 bb)
BTN: $20.94 (104.7 bb)
Hero (SB): $20 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with J J
4 folds, Hero raises to $0.60, BB raises to $1, Hero raises to $2.80, BB calls $1.80

Flop: ($5.60) T 6 K (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $35.60, Hero folds

BB min3bets which means that villain is fishy or villain missclicked (tried to call). I decided to 4bet because I thought I could get called by worse hands and I think that is correct. I checked on the flop intention to call on the flop and possibly on the turn but then villain decides to make a huge overbetshove. I decided to fold simply because I'm getting terrible odds and I don't know the villain. He might have a flush draw or something absolutely crazy but I don't know that. I'm folding prettyy much the top of my range here but whatever, it's just super-risky to call I think.

IPoker, $0.10/$0.20 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

BB: $20 (100 bb)
UTG: $48.70 (243.5 bb)
MP: $28.47 (142.4 bb)
Hero (CO): $20 (100 bb)
BTN: $20 (100 bb)
SB: $19.60 (98 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Q A
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.60, BTN folds, SB raises to $1, BB folds, Hero raises to $2.40, SB calls $1.40

Flop: ($5) J 4 A (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $2.20, SB raises to $5, Hero calls $2.80

Turn: ($15) 6 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

River: ($15) 9 (2 players)
SB bets $10.50, Hero calls $10.50

When I played this hand I thought that this spot was really tough because I thought that villain could play a flush this way but when I look back I think it's a pretty clear call. First of all, most villains would just continue aggression on the turn with the flushdraw. Second, villain does not have that many flushes in his range since we're playing in 4bet pot. And third, villain had like 12,5 dollars behind on the river, why wouldn't he just shove it all if he had a valuehand?

Villain had T6s.

Edit. T6 of clubs.

IPoker, $0.10/$0.20 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (BB): $20 (100 bb)
UTG: $22.99 (115 bb)
MP: $56.15 (280.8 bb)
CO: $23.21 (116.1 bb)
BTN: $15.40 (77 bb)
SB: $27.57 (137.9 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with T J
4 folds, SB raises to $0.80, Hero calls $0.60

Flop: ($1.60) Q 9 5 (2 players)
SB bets $1.60, Hero calls $1.60

Turn: ($4.80) 8 (2 players)
SB bets $3.36, Hero raises to $17.60 and is all-in,
SB folds

I'm not sure whether I played this well or not. Villains timings/sizings were just so strong and that's why I decided to shove since I thought that villain is just snapping it with his aces. Instead he tankfolds. I'm pretty sure villain had AA/KK/AQ, really looks like that kind of hand. I'm not sure whether I should call or shove here as a default vs. regular. Opinions would be appreciated.

Feel free to comment any of these hands above!
